At last I was able to throw the V11 round some DRY roads, after utterly the wettest spring I can remember, including a long sweeping left hander grinding away the side stand in the process - happy days!

Clutch wear

Hello all

I'm looking for your opinions on this clutch/flywheel. It is from a V11 Rosso Corsa (25000 miles) Although the flywheel is quite notched there were no problems with the clutch operation before the engine ate itself. I will need new friction plates as one of the linings has un-bonded, does anyone know the wear limit as these measure 7.5mm thick? I'm ordering the kit which includes 2x friction plates, intermediate plate and hub (any issues with sd-tec plates?) The pressure plate seems fine.
Is it possible that the v11 flywheel being lighter was made from a softer material? I found a daytona flywheel for sale which has slight marks from the pressure and intermediate plate but no where near as bad.

Feels so good to be part of

I bought my V11 on a whim just under a year ago thinking, 'I've always wanted a Guzzi, got no bike, so why not?'.
I had no bike because I'd just got bored with bikes. My last bike was a Monster 750, sold 4 years before, and it was too easy to ride, too hard to work on, expensive to own and I just couldn't be bothered any more.

So I got a Guzzi V11, cheap and a bit of a heap: knackered Sachs shock (split ring - ouch), no tacho, speedo up the spout, notchy swing arm bearings, paint peeling, seized fasteners all over, no damping in the forks etc. etc. But I loved it from the word go: I fixed the dangerous stuff straight away and tolerated the detail stuff for a while longer. All through the winter I've worked on it and I'm back on the road and it's just so much better. Deep deep joy! It demands respect, it rewards with rock steady handling and buckets full of torque, vibey enough to tell it's working, smooth enough to ride all day. But hell, I'm telling you stuff you already know.

I couldn't have done it without this forum so thanks all: in case we forget how lucky we are, my wife rides a Triumph Thruxton 900 and complains she just can't access anything like the same level of opinion, fact and sometimes pure unadulterated bo11ocks as this worshipful community offers.

Proud to be a part of it, so I'm staying.

Rosso Mandello refurbishing

I recently got a Rosso Mandello with 45k miles on it and it looks like it. so it's going to need some refurbishing particularly around the back half. Questions I have are;
Is there a color reference for Dupont or other manufacturer of paint in the US for the tank and for the greay tail section?
Are the Rosso Mandello decals on the tail section still available?
Are the valve covers supposed to match the tank? If not is there a paint code or number available for them also?
I guess that's enough to keep me busy for about a week

Okay so I thought I'd get cute and change my oil by using the port hole. Even spent 20 bucks on the tool. Everything goes great until I try to actually get the filter off. Filter wrench just wont fit on it right. No room to get any other tool or your hand on the filter....why make it nearly the same diameter as the filter? so now i just want to put it back together and do the filter next time. Can't get the porthole back on, keep cross threading it, try again and again.... So finally pull the sump. So easy. I can get the porthole to lay flat and thread, Plus I get to really clean it out. Easy to change filter...Moral, just pull the sump.

screens for bikes now do v11 lm screen (oz)

Just a heads up that screens for bikes ( http://www.screensforbikes.com/ ) now offer a v11 lemans screen and it looks / fits fantastic. He'll update his website eventually with pics of my bike.

It's an australian company but they do deal internationally. They offer various tints and can also do varying heights. I've stuck with standard but a dark tint.

I'd been waiting months for another company to not supply a screen.... but when I sent Peter my old screen he had a new one made within a week. Very impressive.

2001 V11 Sport

Hi Everyone, I'm new to your forum. The reason I am posting is I am looking to buy my brothers 2001 V11 Sport in candy green. The bike has only 3500 miles and is in new condition. My brother wont take a penny less than $6000.00 for the bike but both banks I have talked to told me the bike is only worth around $4-4500 tops. Do you guys feel that 6K is too much for this bike?

'Why do you ride that old tractor?' My friends ask. 'You could have a modern bike for the money'.

Well I have to say that although it's slow I don't get overtaken and I don't hold anyone up.

I know it's un-reliable but it's never let me down, sometimes I just need to drop by old friends for a tea and a gearbox fix.

I understand the ergonomics are all wrong but I still look forward to getting on it after 200 miles.

I know they're unpopular but I always get company when I stop.

The loud exhausts are anti-social, but everyone seems to like the noise.

They call me contrary and I couldn't agree more.

Le Mans Tenni advice - clutch

Hi

I am very interested in buying a 2003 Tenni - low miles in excellent condition.

My only concern is that I've read reports about the clutch exploding with the single plate clutches.

I'm pretty sure the Tenni has a single plate clutch.

Any advice greatly appreciated. I'd even consider buying the bike with a view to changing the clutch out to the conventional two plate system, any pointers to previous threads? I've done a search but can't seem to find much info on the Tenni clutch.

Regards
