  1. As I said over on the AF1 forum I didn't think the price utterly outrageous. I mean they will be a direct bolt-on as they are from a basically identical machine. I'm sure that something else could easily be made to work by boring the yokes or shimming the legs and some form of aftermarket shock would be aquireable but chances are it would involve a lot of buggering about and could end up being equally costly. Really, at the end of the day, does he really want or need the top end gear or is he just wanting some extra bling? I know that if I had a V11 I'd probably want to upgrade the suspension but I'm a suspension junkie. What's it worth to your mate? If he changes his bikes like a teenage girl changes clothes then there is really little point. If the V11 is a keeper then it's probably worth coughing for the Cafe Sport suspenders.

  2. The sensor is a thermistor, no capacitance at all just resistance that changes with temperature, yours read 1.4k because it was reasonably warm then you dipped it in fuel and cooled it down. I just went through this again with a V7 owner, he took the regular speedo off snd wanted to use a 12 Volt LED in its place. He tried using the LED directly with his sensor but of course found it was always lit. I tried to talk him into using an incandescent like the VIIs use but he wasn't having it Measuring the sensor on my V7 the thermistor is ~1,800 Ohms when cold (it will vary slightly depending on your fuel temperature) When the fuel drops below the sensor the V7 sensor starts to warm slowly until it's only around 90 Ohms. You have to be really careful not to supply too much current as the sensor will just keep getting hotter and hotter until it fuses in a puff of smoke, the small lamp that the VII comes with is nicely balanced for the sensor, as the current goes up it lights and the current falls back. The V7 dash does a similar thing electronically, it limits the current to 75 milliamps. I worked out that 150 Ohms was a good value to use in series with the sensor, it will pass enough current to warm it up but not enough to fuse it, the 12 Volt LED is wired in parallel with the resistor, it doesn't draw anything when the sensor is cold but is reasonably bright when the sensor warms up

  3. My best friend contracted it after denying the power of this virus . He lost 30lbs and every day and thought he was going to die . He caught it from his wife and she barely was sick . After recovering from (his words) the illness of a lifetime , he resumed watching his favorite news channel and has forgotten all he learned from his experience . I do NOT waste time with this hot topic because everyone's knowledge (if you want to call it that) comes from news channels only . My wife , step-daughter had it while I was in Ind. working . They had symptoms with hardly any illness . My step-son never caught it . BTW ,the Ind. citizens were responsible the way they were masking up . I mask up 99% of the time I enter a business . The only thing I KNOW about this virus , I don't want it !

  4. I just looked up the latest stats. 511,113 Americans have succumbed to the virus to date. Seems some breeze through it barely noticing they have it and others get nailed well and truly. Frome what I can see it's about how each individuals immune system responds to the virus. Some's immune system just goes crazy and causes big issues for them and then there's the people with underlying issues that the virus magnifies. Pauldaytona has had it and was close to death but has recovered to a large extent but not entirely yet after 8 or 9 months. I've been in a full lockdown 3 times now for various time frames, not much fun but in the grand scheme of things from an historical perspective it's a very minor inconvenience. Ciao

  5. Was able to spend some time in the shop today and changed the engine oil (and filter), gearbox oil, and rear transmission box oil. Got some fresh fuel, wet the tank, crossed my fingers, and hit the starter button. It's alive!!! Let it run for a bit, no leaks or issues, and went for a spin around the block. I had a huge grin on my face. Next stop will be to the DMV for the tag. Felt like I was on such a roll I even changed the ignition starter switch on my '78 Pinto. Unfortunately that battery is suffering from sulfation and wouldn't even take a charge. Pulled it and off to get a replacement tomorrow if work cooperates.

  6. You can dump the return anywhere you like but you must use the the regulator. The pump output is above reg pressure and the reg controls the line pressure. Whats the oil leak like John? Big, weep, dripping? Ciao

  7. Biggest effect? Canceled my moto trip to Spain last year, and my trip to the Himalaya's this summer is hanging by a thread. Lucky that I'm a engineer by profession and have been able to work from home no problem. Personally, I'm very strict on public interactions and so far, so good. Wife is eligible and scheduled for vaccine at the end of the month. I'll have to wait a bit.

  9. I just checked my old( IDK if it is good/bad) one and it checked 1.4k ohm and nothing on capacitance scale . The resistance wet up to 1.8k after a dunk in gasoline . 0 in cap range . INSPECT your connector terminals before doing anything . Yes , I got a used one but it had a different connector/terminals than the 03ish bike I was working on . I was going to change the connector/terminals to Weatherpack and couldn't find ANYTHING til I got finished w/the job .

  10. We get our second shot tomorrow. At our advancing (how could that be??) years, we have been erring on the side of caution. We know several people that have had it, some almost died, and a couple of them did. For others, it was almost a non event. I'm thinking that things may never return to "normal" whatever that is.. but by fall it will be much better. I'm certainly missing rallies. (Guzzi content)

  11. Just put an ohm meter on the leads. "Some" resistance? It's ok. Naturally, open or shorted.. not so much.

  12. To the best of my knowledge , this is a capacitive type sensor and you don't test with a meter or the way you normally test . I replaced mine because of fuel leak and irregular operation . The terminal contact was broken on one terminal . After getting a used one with the wrong connector . I tried swapping connectors , wrong terminals & all kinds of mess , I went through about 10 wiring harnesses and found a terminal that somewhat worked . Hmmmmm . I will check the old sensor by dipping it into fuel and test it & I will let you know what I find on how to test and what is a good reading .

  13. Thank you for making me welcomed - I'll start a thread in the appropriate space to talk about the V11 and 1100 Sport. If I'm honest, I like the looks of 1100 sport and it seems to be a more focused ride. However, the V11 Lemans is a hell of a bike as well... Not in a hurry!

  15. A couple guys have already made reservations. Coming on six months out, so I suppose I should get with it and make mine . . . https://www.lodgeattellico.com/ There are other places around that folks stay, or camp, but this is the locus. And where most of the tools get put to use. Definitely where the deals go down . . . . . . and photo ops of celebs . . .

  17. Nearly a year into this thread. Time enough to reflect. Much of that reflection is of a political nature or could be construed as such. We don't do that here on the forum and that's not what this is about. Just a guy in Indianapolis and what it's like to look back. One life and his small world. I do carpentry with a medium sized ($150k-$1m+) remodeling co. A crew of 6 and a dozen sub/vendors coming and going. Almost no one wore/wears a mask. I mostly did, but I did before covid. All private residences, and homeowners were all good with how things were done. Our work was unaffected by virus or virus mandates. About September I semi retired. Still do smaller projects. I'd say about half of those I encounter do not mask. I wear a mask indoors where appropriate. Our restaurants have been open for the most part. I meet friends for lunch 1 or 2 times a month. You have to mask till you get to the table and once there, you don't. The employees mask, per the law. I've had 3 Dentist appointments and 3 Doctor visits. All very masked. My last Dentist trip was normal PPE though. They are clearly over it, they only take temps to start. My tight circle of friends and family is about 10. Two of those have had it, and with light symptoms. In the larger circle of friends and acquaintances, a dozen or more have caught it. No symptoms more complex than flu fortunately. My old bosses daughter got it twice, first time no symptoms, just got tested as a courtesy. I have yet to catch covid or take the vax. Recently the older folks I know are starting to get the shot. Reactions have been arm pain and "a little dizzy". So, other than the politics involved with it, I'd be curious to know how anyone else has been affected. Except for the first month and the mass toilet paper grab, this city seems pretty normal. I don't do anything much different than I used to, but as an old guy I was not all that socially active before. Looking forward to Spring/Summer and a return somewhat, to normalcy. Stay safe and healthy

  18. Speedo finally died. Happened 10ks after leaving home on trip to Dunedin weekend before last It had been swinging wildly for a while so it was no surprise. Solution seems to be replace with new from Speedhut or get repalred. There is company called Parrots here in Christchurch that I know have repaired another V11 speedo with same problem. Can you get the parts to repair them yourself? I’ve found the video on youtube which gives some idea of what’s involved Motoguzzi V11 Sport Rosso Mandello 2001 Overhaul of speedometer and tachometer - YouTube Thoughts?

  20. So couple of data points first a long boring video showing the results. Pressure is still a little low but I wonder if the pressure at the gauge is the same as what's at the crank, possibly a little higher at the crank. As the 2 valves run at this sort of pressure too I suppose it's nothing too much to worry about. Certainly better than in the 40s which I reckon the OEM will give you. Oh that Staining/drips on the tiles is some small leaks where the cans mate to the pipes, and the drips are water. There was another small oil leak from a rocker I reckon now fixed I'm just adding all this stuff as data points for others to let people see what the results I'm getting. Tomorrow I'll try to post a comparison of the different tests just for some more info to tie it together a little more

  22. Ok thanks Phil that's really what I thought. Cheap reg to run with it about £20-30, plan to use 2 tanks I think (the beer cans) with a line between them to hold level, so not too bad It was just a drip about every 30 seconds or so wouldn't have affected the running but made a mess inside the Oz fairing, after a while. Pretty sure it was that rocker gasket that was missing, nothing above it and there were tell tales drips on the rocket cap screws at the lowest point. Everything else was clean(ish). Had a spare so it's now on and ready to try again Nothing to worry about, Oh I'll add a video to the Gross Stupidity Thread later today as I got some video and data. Thanks for chiming in both you and docc's input appreciated

  24. It doesn't come on a stick like the VII ones but I'm fairly sure its value is the same, it would certainly work with an in tank fuel pump. You could adapt the V7 one by carving open the stick to access the connections. I would try to avoid having to re-make the tank seal.

  25. Yeah it's an idea I do have 2x5 litre empty (a long time ago) beer cans. I'd need to do a little math though on what the rate is, I'm assuming the return is more that the bike drinks by some way so if it's returning a lot, running time could be limited, I could connect the tanks together using a line to balance them I'm assuming that the tank regulator back pressures the system and reduce the flow. I don't have a curve for the Bosch OEM on the bike, but a replacment Pierburg (IF it's characteristics are similar) is flowing about 100-110 litres per hour at 3 bar. With no regulator it would be higher with just the system components and hoses offering resistance...................I think!!!! That's partly why I'm asking the question, it wouldn't allow you much running time even regulated if you only had 5 litres to play with and no return. Saying that a Chinese Bay of Fleas regulator is pretty cheap and would be fine for just a test rig to run

  26. How about set up your temp tan to the pump and connect a longer return line back to the regulator on the main tank nearby? The fuel dosn't have to return to the same tank unless you're going somewhere . . .

  27. Welcome, Tomas! If the bike didn't stutter, the water did not enter through the intakes. The three places that come to mind to inspect are the crankcase vent hose at the rear/top of the engine, distributor block-off plate at the top-right of the engine inboard of the back of the right cylinder, and the dip stick. Let us know what you find!

  28. No not on the HiCam @docc that engine has an external fuel pump (located at the head of the frame) In tank pumps were later Oh may have found the leak anyway, a PO had installed 2/3rd of the left rocker cover gasket, he decided to save weight an leave 1/3rd out, that looked like where the leak was eminating from but not 100%, I'll only find out when I re-run it. I'd still like to have a method of using a temp tank, as it's a handy tool to have

  29. A few of my distant family members have had it, none died but a couple of them came very close.I'm still waiting to get my first shot, I scheduled it over 8 weeks ago but March 10th was the soonest I could get..My wife, my youngest Son and I don't go out except to the grocery store or an occasional ride/drive and long early morning walks 4-5 days per week, We always mask up around anyone outside of our 3 way circle and have since last March 13th, We are fine with that,We DON'T WANT IT! I've got my 70th coming up next year,,,I want to go back to Italy and ride next year. I do miss seeing friends, and riding to the local hang outs in the mountains. All of this is just a minor inconvenience in the overall scheme of things in my opinion....We enjoy our home, we enjoy each others company and I have plenty of time to tinker in the shop,I can get any parts I need online fairly fast, my Wife has a awesome job in tech that hasn't been affected at all by having a home office, and she has become an outstanding baker and Chief and gardener, We both like gardening. Things will be much better...life will go on....Happy to be here!!

  32. We are a well aged population, and more subject to every disease. The media has gone insane over perpetrating hysteria over the virus. I saw that in the 1 1/2 minutes that I could stand to watch it. I am intentionally immune suppressed, as my transplanted immune system kills cancer but also wants to kill me. I am not the slightest bit worried about the virus - this from someone who may only partially respond to the vaccine, if at all. Worry = lack of peace. My world view teaches that worry indicates a lack of faith. So, I work on that. Regarding all of the social and political turmoil, there is not a toilet large enough to flush it all.

  34. Scura #600 - new to me today. Just sold my old Scura w/ Coppa paint job couple months ago and the garage just didn’t feel complete anymore. This one was apparently on and off the market a couple times and popped up again yesterday.......brought it home today. Will need a little TLC, but I’m excited nonetheless.

I've worked all day on the tps---- I twisted the tps clockwise as far as possible + a little more,I got my 157.3 on the tps---I didn't fair so well with setting the stop screw,I gave it all it was good for but nowhere near the 378 I need. I started engine + found idle to be about 3k---turning left stop screw c/clockwise 4 turns put it close to1200 rpm as idle ----getting it sorted I think I've got it,until I can ride it I won't know for sure if its fixed. Last I checked tps was 220mv----It runs good in the garage I hope I cured the 6mp gallon problem. Thank you all for posting + your help

  38. I've done the same but with printed off sections of google maps, highlighted and cut into trapezoids. I rode once long ago with a guy who used one of those scroll thingies. I thought that was cool but didn't have the patience to prep one.

  39. I found one of my Route books and a couple Route Cards that I made to get to the Barber Vintage Festival entirely on backroads and around all the little towns. The cards are just sections of the DelOrme copied in black&white, then highlighted to read at a glance. Worked a charm. Had I been on my Sport, I would have been using the Zūmo, but was on the Honda GB 500 that year with a tankbag only . . .
