  1. A comparable H-D (aluminum, post '85) Sportster 883 has no problem making as much power as a Moto Guzzi with nothing more than a change of camshaft and replacing the EPA noise-restricting intake and exhaust with something that works. Our racing 883's limited to valve jobs, air cleaners, jetting and exhaust changes *always* made 61rwhp, and with careful attention to details could make 65rwhp with the razor-sharp narrow stock camshaft. So the ultimate answer to your question is, H-D traded HP for sound and road feel, and paid a price to the EPA for noisy valve gear as well.

  3. Thank you. If anything, the Guzzi has maxed out valve sizes, as proportionately they are a larger percentage of the chamber than the vaunted hemi of lore.

  4. Greetings Alfacity, sold mine a few weeks ago but here are some pics that may help. Flat stock, longer bolts and a couple spacers and your in business... hopefully this is the same rack. Paul B

  5. Haha, well Moto Guzzi doesn't use many security ties for the harness and such. I see this little rubber tie on the clutch side to gather the various elements . . .

  6. From a Rosso Corsa I parted. The vid is from the last time it ran before parting. I tried to show imperfections in the photos. A scratch and some fine stuff on the glass from too rough cleaning and the rest is on the inside from fog and dust. The back side is clean and no wobbly pieces. check p/n's ! $60. plus ship.

  7. if you haven't already Bob, see to the troublesome bullet connectors on the left side at the neck while you're in the harness.

  8. As luck would have it. My Mistral pipe and Mistral "spoofer" were delivered today. Of course, I immediately put the pipe on, which added about a bazillion mental horsepower, because is sounds glorious. Took it for a quick spin and could definitely feel the difference (but that could due to the mental HP). It popped on deceleration, and was a little more shaky at idle. Then I plugged in the "spoofer" and took it for the same little spin. Popping was far less, but not gone, and the idle was improved. I did some "post-purchase" research and it seems the "Beetle" maps are the way to go. So I will try GuzziDiag at some point soon. FWIW, I figured I could trust Mistral to sell a viable plug-and-play solution with their pipe. If the Beetle map is better, than I invested a little money in first-hand experience. Like the saying goes: "In my life I spent a lot of money on beer and motorcycles. The rest, I just wasted." So... to keep this on point for this topic... Doesn't the electronic engine management have a lot to do with getting the most power out of an engine? I mean, if Harley is actually trying for low-end torque, I assume they would also optimize the ECU for that - vs a midrange motor.

  9. I'm with you on all this. Several HD's have come and gone in my garage and honestly they were more dependable, required less maintenance, and easier to work on than my Italians, and an endless support system and aftermarket. The torque was thrilling. Twisty roads.... not so much. (Except for my buddy's Buell XB9r)

  10. I don't think HD is chasing HP. They are after torque, it seems. And feel. HD has built some pretty powerful engines. Obviously there was the V Rod engine. But they also built a 1200 air cooled engine for the Buell that made 101 HP (mine put out about 80 HP at the rear tire, more than the wife's V11, and over 70 ft/lbs of torque). That was a seriously sweet motor. Not like a V11 motor, it was much more of a stump puller that would still rev while the V11 motor is more of a mid-range motor. Certainly HD could build a more modern engine, but really they seem to be doing fine where they are. And the Live Wire is seriously fast. In the end, there is more than one way to make a nice engine. I just wish HD hadn't killed off Buell.

  11. Becuase Guzzis are made with red wine and Harleys are made with beer. Wine has a higher alcohol content, so it burns more efficiently. The tannins in the red wine also account for Guzzis having more character. My Scura, for example, has hints of blackberry and chocolate.

  12. Try this one. Takes family tent, BBQ and three push-bikes.

  13. Unfortunately no tell-tale rattles... Again, Joel said I'd be wasting my money to send it to him. I'm going to try a new relay and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll be looking for an alternative.
