  1. The unridable Vincent is a beautiful piece of work. "the entire stage was shaking" is a Commando legacy. The XR750's were, and usually are, among my favorites. Thanks for sharing

  4. Stainless steel is DRY . You must use a anti-seize lubricant to prevent thread galling .

  5. One of the big defect of the stainless steel is galling..... I mean stainless steel in stainless steel. In my battle tank days, we used molysllip, molykote, and coprikote. A quick web search got me to UK https://www.molyslip.co.uk/copaslip/ But I am certain you can get these compounds here in the United States. It worked on battle tanks taken through terrain, mud, salt water, sand what not.... Tomorrow, I shall install four stainless steel M8 x 30mm CHC. Just to meet the minimum purchase, I now own 50 M8 nuts, 50 M8 washers.... I regret the days when you could simply purchase the exact quantity you needed...

  6. I did all the purchases from "The nut place" 6605 Gessner Road, Houston, TX 77040-4015; They have all metric fasteners in stock, stainless too, they also have a machine shop, they can do fabrication. Nice and friendly people. I recommend.

  8. My friends Mike and George went down to Quail a week ago to show off George's Ducati. Mike made a little video about it as he's apt to do. There were a ton of Guzzis down there so I thought I'd share it with y'all. There will be a part 2 to the video that will probably come out next Sunday.

  10. The reason why the screw broke is because this is the side where I dropped the bike. To be able to put everything back together, I had to loosen the two screws of the foot peg bracket, and pull on the exhaust and the foot beg to align the holes to slide the screw. For the other side, no issue at all. The screws go in and out without any force. I found the relay shown on the left hand side pic suspended by a broken zip tie. What is that relay for? The screws are M8 x 40mm long. I used anti-seize anti-ruts compound.

  13. You don't know how good (or bad) you have it. Insuring a motorbike in Europe is so costly, even a challenge for young drivers. Some insurance companies do not even offer insurance for young drivers. You need to jump through hoops. But driving in Europe is very different. I think it is safer overall there. Mainly because there is a really strict prohibition on driving and cell phone use. Its fine. We just have to adapt and take it into account. Since I have been riding (last year), I have not had a real scare just yet. That does not mean I have not been involved in potential situations, but so far, I anticipated everything. I hope that it continues this way. This is why I am going to take, and continue taking these safety courses. No ABS is also an aggravating factor to my insurer.

  15. Florida doesn't require motorcycle insurance; after all these years I still don't know what to make of that. I don't think taking the course over again would lower mine, but I could ask.

  17. There is nothing hi-tech about a MG electrical system . This reminds me of a story concerning a VERY old garage in Wickliffe run by two very old mechanics . A buddy of mine said " the only thing hi-tech about Dreamy Haynes was an 8 volt battery ".

  18. My company submitted us to a driving test every six months. Testing your handling skills every few years may help you to increase safety and awareness. I took the Motorcycle Safety Course here, even if I already had my driver's license. Mainly because it lowers my insurance rate, but also to verify my level. I am planning to do it again, after the Texas Tour, this time, with the Guzzi, and not with one of these 125cc motorcycle which feel like bicycles.

  19. I'd rather sort out a bad transmission than a wiring harness that the PO "fixed" ! Can anyone help me out with this PO mod under the seat. There's a red wire coming from the OEM harness that the PO inline fused to a red/green pair from the OEM harness. This pair is one red with green trace and one red with green trace. Also, there appears to be one open spot in the fuse box. Might these be related?

  20. She asked me (Stefanie) how I came to know about their Museum. I said the Motorcycle Tour of Texas... her face lit up, and she said she knew all about it. I liked they kept that roll of paper which was anonymously annotated to be the last one produced from the mill before it shut down.

  21. I have not taken the cartridge apart on ours, but it was clearly a cartridge and not a damper rod set up. The valving appears to be shims on a piston, but it has been a while. And I am not sure how the adjusters worked. It is possible that the valving is stationary and the piston has not valving, it just forces the oil through the stationary valving at one end of the cartridge. I don't know, I did not open the cartridge. It was not required for what I was doing. Again, it has been years since I worked on it. I do know the cartridge had a pair of holes in it that allowed the oil to bypass the valving in the piston. And by blocking off one of those two holes I forced more oil to go through the valving and thus the adjuster had a noticeable effect, while previously with both holes open the adjuster had no effect until the piston moved past at least one of the two holes. So as designed the adjusters were only effective in the last inch or so of travel, something of an adjustable hydraulic bumpstop. The dampening was separate, one leg had valving in that piston that worked in compression and the other had valving that worked in extension (rebound). In the compression side there was no valving to slow oil from flowing from above the piston to below the piston, and on the other side there was no valving to slow the oil from below the piston to above the piston. There was only valving in one direction. But again, all this was taking place in a separate cartridge inside the fork and not using a damper rod at the bottom of the fork. They may have a different design for the cartridge than later forks, but it is a cartridge.

  22. Hi Guzziart, I wasn't able to find the wiring diagram on the Electrosport website but I see the ESR531 is a 3 wire regulator whereas the ESG814 is a single phase (2 wire) Stator, If it's working ok, don't worry about it. Your headlight relays are an improvement over the old system, don't change back not only does it eliminate the flakey Voltage reference, i'm sure you notice the headlight is brighter. I don't believe the Electrosport regulator needs grounding, the old Ducati Energia did because there was no wire connecting to battery Negative. The regulator is now sensing the Voltage directly from the battery Technical Article Figure 1 OR from the ignition switch Technical Article Figure 2 I would be more than happy with the battery Voltage you are seeing.
