  1. Sounds like you've got a good feel for the good stuff up here... Lolo is always a great run, and the area all around there. the curves are fantastic on any bike, and then if you're on an ADV bike there are lots of great offshoots into the boondocks, or on a V11 there are lots more twisties to chase. Not sure if this an appropriate place to throw out some other "snapshots" of nice roads, but here's a link to what I'm 99% sure is the run i've done a few times that I quite liked (google map link, fairly ubiquitous). You can continue up the snake river to Oxbow, which is another short distance up-and-back also: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8LiNXm6iAV2Fg6d39 Thats a neat, fairly remote route between the snake and Joseph, and then north of there up toward lewiston on the 3 is also good. For off-road (ADV, not dirt bike) riders i have a great little route between walla walla and Anatone (off route 3, north of Joseph). If you're out that way and want to do the Joseph OR area for those enjoyable riding routes around there, my favorite little hotel at Joseph I think I heard is selling, and maybe is selling or may shut down, but their web site is still up. It's a quirky place, but unique in what i'd call a good way: jenningshotel.com i don't actually know who sets these (John Day) events up, other than the generic knowledge that it's MGNOC. I know there are great day rides around John Day, but whether a guy would have to arrive armed with that knowledge or get it from a resource at the event I don't know. yesterday I did the run NW from John Day toward home, up through Fossil and Condon, which is always a great ride. A few very short sporty sections, but mostly just "mildly sporty" and lots of great scenery, and in large sections of the ride lack of vehicles. But in late June, will be strings of tourists checking out the fossil bed stuff I assume, and will likely be HOT in some sections. the "lonesome highway" from Vale OR, up the 26 to john day, was enjoyable. A few grin-inducing sections, but mostly just grand scenery and a good number of sweepers. But in that corner/quadrant of the state, there are lots of fun, remote routes.

  3. P6X, Thanks for the sage advice. As you said, forums do not seem as popular as they once were. Facebook has taken up much of the turf, for better or worse. I think FB is popular because it's "one stop shopping" and easier for the occasional visitor, although FB's layout, and terms/rules for operation are negatives, at least for me. I apologize, I did not mean to drift this thread from the primary purpose; photos with recreational appeal. Joe

  4. I would not assume they did because of that. From the little experience I have with forums (I used to be on many forums before they got extinct), if the members do not post, then there is less reason to check in because there is no traffic. The problem is compounded if there aren't many members. Take this forum for example. Some, but not all the traffic consists of people that only come here when they have an issue with their motorcycle. Some are one timer. Once their issue has received a reply, they leave. Other forumers post trivia so when members check-in, there is something they may want to read, or not. But it keeps the forum live. Such as posting about trips, or places, stuff. Try to gather attention so your forum is not a dead beat place. It is not easy. Nowadays, people do not like to write, they would rather watch a video, I am going for a ride today, so I don't have time to check your site. But I will later.

  6. Acosta is surely showing signs of being an exceptionally fast learner...he's got guts as well for such a young racer. I think Marquez sees himself in Acosta and enjoyed the battle out there. Like watching Federer vs. Nadal go at each other with their best stuff. Seeing Marquez go down all by himself, not even in a bump and grind situation was surprising indeed...I didn't really see an "error", but if mechanically something happened, he seemed to accept it. Either way, the Ducati was performing well enough for him to battle from 5th to 1st and ride to his limits, which was great to see again. Vinales was on another level altogether...but as said above, can be hot or cold, so very difficult to bet on him being "consistent" again at the remaining races. Either way, Moto GP just became exciting again...it was missing this last year.

  7. To those not familiar with John day, my humble opinion as an Oregonian and with my own subjective lenses on, is that it’s not a destination you’d normally have on your hot list. Far from it. But the area is beautiful. If I were offering advice on where to go, stay, and ride on a visit to Oregon, this area would certainly be hot on the list of recommendations. But I’d consider staying down the road perhaps at prairie city (nifty old hotel there), though I suppose maybe it’s crowded in the summer…. Can’t say for sure these days if the wonderfully quiet area turns into a zoo in summer. Maybe. long distance travelers coming out to John Day and who have time, I’d recommend including the Joseph & Enterprise area, walla walla, Bend (opposite direction), in addition to all the great more remote areas between John day and the Gorge (with the gorge also worth visiting), are where I’d generally point. Lots of scenic hot spots and sporty roads.

  8. For what it’s worth, not regretting the v85tt, which is now my official opinion. Mine is a 2022 (bought it used), not the 2024 from the thread title, but today was the unintended test to settle things. Left Denver (Longmont) in unforecast light drizzle and wet snow, and being the child that i am i headed out and upward in elevation. Forecast was for 39 degrees at the coldest, but Apple weather was garbage as always and it dropped to 29 (f), in wet snow. Pavement was fine, but the moisture made it painfully cold, even with the electric gear. Sigh. But in rain mode (pioggia) to assist, she handled smooth, and then when we finally broke out into balmy 38 degree weather and dry air/road, she picked up the pace and danced along beautifully. Then on the highway slog later in the day, something i didn’t test in Italy on the rental v85, i locked cruise control at 85 and she was smooth and steady even in the blustery wind. Only complaint is I thought I had heated grips… but I don’t. Just the button. Cruel Italian. So have had her now in the Italian mountain twisties, nasty cold & wet in CO, and open highway at high speed in WY, and she’s checking all the boxes. Now to waste more hard earned cash on guzzitechs mods to juice up the HP and exhaust, something she does NOT need, but the child in me will keep the upper hand, and money shall be well wasted.

  9. I run a vintage Gilera group, with few members. An offshoot of the old Yahoo group days. Mr brother, a big shot businessman, suggested increasing the group's internet presence to get more people, so I posted a vintage Gilera advertisement photo ... and two members just quit. Is this really that salacious, that over-the-top? I'm just trying to stay afloat in these facebook days.

  10. Yes, we got bikes with the 15M-RC and lambda input but not until pretty late in the day. A quick gurn at the parts lists says 2003 models got Lambda input.

  12. well it may or may not be pertinent to your troubles, but i had dreadful fuel consumption once that i eventually realised was due to a nasty crack in the exhaust near the lambda sensor (crossover area). So maybe check that whilst you’re scanning about?

  13. Is your tachometer Veglia? If it is, the "dancing" pointer is due to a "leaking" ground inside the instrument. I have recently purchased a Moto Guzzi equipped with a Veglia affected with the same problem, and I got it fixed by a specialist in Germany. The grounding issue is very well known and easy to cure. However, opening the instrument without damaging it requires some special skills and tools. I sent both the instruments, so the pointers could be painted again, and more visible. Unfortunately, shipping from the USA is extremely expensive. I paid 234 USD to Germany, while the shipping in the opposite direction is 50 EUR for 5kg. But I spare nothing when it comes to making my Guzzi bellisime! (Belissima = singular). Before: After:

  14. New quality relays is always a good idea. Also, make sure the bases where they plug into are clean and tight. A quality relay with a bad connect doesn't work any better then a cheap relay with a good connection. Back when we would travel on motorcycles we would always carry a spare set of relays for the wife's V11. We only needed them a couple times, but when you need them you need them, and you aren't going to find them in the middle of Pennsyltucky. A classic sign that the relay was not working was also the lack of a tail light as I recall. We did run into situations were the relay would stick and only work some of the time. The clues that the relay was not working were a weak headlight (because the real headlight would not work, only the running light worked), the tach would act up, and the taillight would not work.

  15. Another couple of months to see this sign again! Some of the best roads in the country up in this area! Now I recall we spent the night in Lowell at the Wilderness Motel & Cafe. Fond memories of a delicious Huckleberry milkshake there that night! The scenery is amazing...fresh air, curvy roads, forests everywhere. Just paradise!

  18. I’ll probably ride through john day on sunday, making a bee-line though, to get home that evening after a few days on the road on the new-to-me v85tt. Weather is typical spring…. Supposed to be pretty nice tomorrow, then cooling off again into the lower 50’s Sunday when I’ll pass through. Can’t complain. (Left Denver with an ok forecast…. But per usual Apple weather was way off. Forecast for 39 deg at coldest turned into 29 (F) and wet snow. A brutal 1.5hr slog till it cleared off. But the V85tt handled nicely)

  20. Are you certain the two members quit because of the photo? I do not see anything offending, unless those members are extremely religious. When I was working in Libya, magazines with women in inappropriate outfits were automatically confiscated as prohibited to import. Staying afloat for a non "video" site is getting tougher nowadays. Even Facebook. Now, a lot of the discussions have migrated to Discord. I am on a Facebook Group for Moto Guzzi Quota, but it is not the same as this forum. When you make a post, only the first few answers are directly visible, else you need to click to reveal. There is no easy way to differentiate topics. It is just like a big box where you throw in everything. Not my type of information channel. Better than nothing.

  22. Oops I missed the fellow Aussie connection. Here Lambda and when? Not sure. Pete might chime in and let us know. Another reason for poor fuel economy in an old not ridden much bike....leaking fuel injectors. This would be my first line of action in the absence of the bleeding obvious other reasons. You could check them on the bike I guess as a back yard method. Remove the injector, reconnect the feed hose and wiring connector and turn on the ignition a few times and see if it leaks anything. The lines maintain pressure for a while with the ignition off and even a few drops/ minute would be bad. Phil

  23. These are what you use on FI hoses. Norma cobra clips. Compact, easy to install, easy to remove, re useable, stainless steel, bullet proof sealing, colour banded for size identification. They sell a special tool to install them but it's not required in reality although I made up one using an old worn out pair of combination pliers for convenience sake. Purple banded size is what you need on 5/16 FI hose. I've been using them for many years and they work perfectly and look compact, professional and tidy.   28. I've been avoiding this thread, as I couldn't watch the GP until last night. OH BOY! fantastic race, so enjoyed it, and in Texas too! The USA needed a good showing, what a track. My man Brad Binder did not fair well, but BatMav and Pedro kept me cheering just the same. It was such a good race, so many passes, I didn't even care who won. I also follow SX and my fave, Cooper Webb won so it was a great weekend of racing for me. I also follow MMA, but my fave Justin Gaethje did not fair so well.

  29. Your right, it is specifically the brake light function of the tail light that doesn't work when that relay is not relaying. Thanks for the correction. I was following the wife through Pennsyltuckey and was impressed that she was never hitting the brakes. Turns out her relay was not relaying. It is possible you have an R/R issue, but I suggest you make sure it is not one of the more common issues that plague the V11 Sport first before shelling out the coins for a new R/R.

  31. Well, ok.. I'll photobomb you.. We were in the path of totality, so had a cookout/eclipse party. My last apprentice, Austin..now the Indiana MGNOC rep, took these pix. As we approached totality, I went to the house and got my birding binoculars. It "appeared" that we could see eruptions around the corona. The temp dropped 12 degrees, colors changed, and the breeze we had been having dropped to dead calm. Crickets cricketed. I thought, "I wonder what it would look like from the air?" Quickly opened the hanger door, did a preflight, grabbed my flying jacket, silk scarf, and aviator cap, kicked the tires and lit the fires. The spring greens were a different shade, and it looked like a wall of rain 2 miles to the west. The above picture is looking west. When we got there, though, it still looked like rain ahead. Not a ripple in the air. Awesome. You can see some of the effect in this picture taxiing in. Shadows appeared to be cut out of cardboard, and the colors were still "off.: Truly a once in a lifetime experience.. it was good for me.

  33. I received the Snugs-Moto and did a quick test run to Louisiana and back! I can only be dithyrambic about the experience. You can see they are personalized with my name engraved in the molding. 1st, they address the wind noise problem because they are before all plugs. Also, no more of the interference with the audio from said wind noise. You get crystal clear audio. I don't listen to music when I ride, only to the audio guidance from the GPS. My phone remains in my pocket. Now, I think Snugs-Moto have a very good setup, perfect for my application. No contraption on the side of my helmet. Although, I made a mistake while wearing them. I had left the speakers of my "Sharktooth" installed, and they pressed on my ears, which made the helix painful against the cartilage. I also had two disconnects: one with a seamless immediate reconnection, the second one, I had to stop and do a power off and on cycle to reconnect. The controls are on the "open dog collar", and not as easy to reach and manipulate as the Cardo and Sena that sit on your helmet. But as I don't use the controls other than before and after the ride, it is not an issue for me. Yesterday, Saturday 20th of April, I went to CycleGear and tried various full face helmets with the Snugs-Moto. I realized that they were much more comfortable, and I could not feel the Snugs while in them. So I removed the speakers in my Shark full face, and no more issue. Also, I don't think they are a mesh system. You would not be able to communicate with a pillion or other riders as other comm. allow.

  35. I am not well experienced in Guzzi, but spark plugs coloring used to be a tattle tale before. We would remove the spark plugs, clean them up, install them and run the engine for a few miles and check the color to get some clue about the fuelling.

  36. @p6x That was some interesting action. Up to about $3500, there was one guy driving the train. He has an old V7Sport and a MHR, so I thought he wanted another Italian gem. His past wins showed he had some deep pockets, but he left the dance. Then the eventual buyer took over. It's history now. Makes me want to put mine in my foyer even more to keep it perfect, but I've been told more than once, no way! I have the perfect spot for it. Some people just dont understand.

  37. From a broad perspective, it’s arguably the most common issue with any old Italian motorcycle, the electrical system. Years ago I just determined that I’d go through the electrics and do the handful of usually affordable and not-to-tricky upgrades on the front end, and life has been easier ever since, with all my beloved Italians. I’ve not done much with fuse blocks, though docc and many others have a lot of insight there. Mine have always looked great, so I haven’t messed with that. But checking for good grounding (can be a “free” fix for a lot of issues), the mosfet VR retrofit, new & good relays, and at least checking if not also just pro-actively upgrading the wire connectors is time/money well spent for longer term peace of mind. I’ve purchased a number of mosfet upgrades from roadstercycle, which were quite a bit more expensive, but he specs out some good (or great) quality connectors and wiring, which is handy.

  38. Before you do that, make sure the headlight is working. In the headlight there are two bulbs, one standard low beam / high beam headlight bulb and one running light bulb. It is easy to mistake the running light bulb being on for the headlight working. If the headlight bulb isn't working the regulator won't properly charge the battery. Because it uses the voltage on the headlight circuit after the headlight bulb to measure battery voltage. The bulb can be burnt out or the circuit might be off (blown fuse or faulty relay). You may need a new regulator, but make sure before going that way.

  39. Saw it in Marble Falls, TX. I saw the last one in Oregon in 2017 with my oldest daughter. My wife took my other daughter to PA for her first year college move in, so they both missed out. Flash forward to now. That same daughter is a grad student at UT Austin. My wife's birthday was the day of the eclipse. Visting my daughter in Austin and seeing the eclipse was her birthday present. It was a great trip!

  42. Still some snow on the lawn and in the woods, but the sun was out and temp was 53, and wife said do it. What else does a moto guy need to know, I did it. Road for about 2.5 hours being cautious in the curves cus the roads were still heavily dusted from winter sanding. Ahhhhh it felt good to get the first ride in.
