  1. My friend V-7 Paul sent me a text Friday evening asking about info I had mentioned about a Guzzi gathering in Tellico Plains.  I explained that I could not spend the weekend but would like to ride over early Saturday, meet the group, maybe have lunch and ride back home the same day.  Wife is worried about the bears who like to stroll thru our back yard occasionally.   Paul is up for it I get my hall pass from my WONDERFUL WIFE and we decided to meet near his house at 07:30 which means I need to interrupt my rem sleep and drag my raggedy butt out of bed before sunrise.

We met at the designated location and other than the thick fog had a relatively uneventful ride to Tellico Plains.

Arrived at the Lodge around 09:00 in time to see everyone.   Was great seeing acquaintances from previous Raids and meeting new folks to.

Paul and I started a ride after the first group left.  Thinking we were behind the group we didn't waste much time on SR315.  Just as were came to a rise my bike sputtered to a stops I watch Paul ride off over the horizon.  At a slim and trim 215 lbs of retired lazy butt, luckily I only had to push the bike uphill about 10 yards to the driveway of the Duckett Memorial Cemetary.  How appropriate, a final resting place for me or the bike if I can't figure out why it stopped  running.   As I was gasping for air I noticed  a strong odor of gas and started looking for leaks.  Look down at my right pants leg and it was wet from just above the ankle down to my boot.  Since I don't suffer from incontinence  I looked at the lower right side of the fuel tank and noticed the return line to the fuel pressure regulator was disconnected.   Got that fixed turned the key on and hit the start button.....nothin!!  It was about this time the group which had left before us go riding past, waving as they go.

Checked all the fuses and relays.  The plastic top of the fuel injection  fuse was melted but still functioning.  Replaced a couple relays with the spares I had brought- Docc.  Still no neutral light! Ok I'm running out of ideas.  Time for AAA which would be fine if there was cell service.  Paul graciously offered his bike for me to search for cell service.  Ride down the the local fire hall about five miles back, still no service.  Figure that one out.  Furthur down the road I stop at an intersection with a lawn sale.  When I ask if they have cell service I was met with "who is your provider?".  "Nope, gotta go further towards town".

Wait, what's that sound rumbling thru the hills?  It sounds like another group of Guzzis.  And this group even stops to ask what happened to the owner of the bike I'm on.  Doc, Josh, and the South Florida boys to the resue !! Head back up the road to my bike for a little roadside diagnostics.  A circuit tester miraculously appears and each circuit on the bike is checked.  Then someone asks if the bike is in neutral.  Well it must be, I pushed it uphill onto the shoulder.  Let's check again.  Duh! It was caught between 3rd and 4th gear.  Falls into neutral on the little green light on the dash lights.  Pull the clutch lever, push the little black go button a varoom, starts right up.  My bike still has the idiot proof switches for neutral safety, clutch and side stand.  With the sidestand down and in gear, or between gears it won't start.  Gear up and off we go.  Rode to the top of a mountain and a rest stop with an awesome overlook South towards the North Georgia mountains.  After a few minutes we hear thunder off in the distance.  Time for V-7 Paul and I to roll.

We head back South thru North Carolina and into Georgia without incident.  Paul breaks off to head home near Blairesville as I continued on to Hiawassee.  The closer I got to home the darker the skys got.  About two miles from home the roads were wet but at least it's not raining.  Just as I pulled onto my road I caught up to the rain, but with only a quarter mile to go not a concern.

What an awesome day.  Great riding.  Close to two hundred miles round trip.  Met some old friends and made new ones.  The bike for the most part ran great.  V-7 Paul was impressed how well 20  year old bikes ran so strong and wanted me to pass along his thanks for the great hospitality everyone extended.  We are so looking forward to the 20th Southern Spine Raid.  Tools, relays, and spares included.

  2. Ok folks I finally found my electrical problem and it was probably self inflicted. After initially checking all the fuses and replacing each relay EXCEPT the START relay, I removed all of the body work and began checking each individual junction plug to include disassembling the ignition switch.  When all that failed I called a friend who went thru each circuit.  We then discovered at some point I must have inserted a 4 blade relay into the STARTER relay plug.  This relay also supplies energy to the brake light, headlights and horn relay via the green/white wire.  PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!  We also learned the fuse for the fuel pump activate the starter when I discovered a brand new faulty fuse.  Thanks so much to Docc and everyone, especially for posting the wire diagram!!!!!

  3. Just posted this over in the How to Section also.  Here is a head scratcher.  Still trying to track down my electrical gremlin.  Replaced all my fuses and relays.  going by the Wiring Diagrams it looks like the fuse block on my bike is the opposite of the diagram.  the spare fuse #8 is at the back of the bike and the ECU fuse #1 is at the front of the bike.  I have power going into and out of fuses #5 and #6(Day lights and headlights).  And the blue wire going into Relay #2 lights the test light when ground to the frame but no power at the red/black wire, green/white or black wire.

Do I need to disassemble the ignition switch or continue b checking the main plugs?

  4. Well here is a head scratcher.  The fuses on my 02 LeMans are opposite of the diagram.  #8, the spare fuse is at the back of the bike(block) and the ECU #1 is towards the front.

I have power to both fuses for the day and headlights and also the blue wire going into relay #2 but with the test light grounded at the frame, No power on any of the other wires at relay#2.

I have replaced all the relays and fuses trying to track down this problem.  Day time driving light, tail lamp, turn signals, but no headlamp, brake light or horn.  in the process of checking the main harness plugs now.  do I need to disassemble the ignition switch next?

  5. As I recall we all pulled over to watch as someone had to re-attach their muffler with safety wire on their BMW.

That was quite a ride, everything from sunshine to fog so thick you couldn't see ten feet in front of you.

  6. After being side tracked with a couple minor health issues and a foray into the adventure bikes for several years,  I finally got back around to trying to track down the eeelectric malfunctions on my 02 Goldie.

I have a front running light, rear tail light, turn signals and starter but no head light, brake light or horns!!!!! Replaced the relays with Omron units I ordered over a year ago. Docc and company, thanks so much for posting the wiring diagrams. Trying to get this lump sorted and running in time for the next Spine Raid.

  7. Wow thanks for the input Chuck.  I bought a new circuit tester and multi meter.  Since I first noticed I didn't have a brake light I started back there and began working my way forward after changing relays didn't help.  I discovered there is no power to the fuse for the horn and lights.  I next checked the wires going in to the relay.  Started to check all the plug connections thinking I may have pulled or broken something while replacing the battery.  Just took the dash off to get at the ignition switch when my WONDERFUL WIFE announced it was time for dinner.

Docc, thanks for that photo, I will explore that tomorrow. Really appreciate all the help and guidance.  I will keep you all posted on my progress.

PS- I ordered 5 new relays.  Naturally I saw the link to Pyro Dan's after I already placed to order to the Ebay site.

  8. Thanks for the suggestions docc.  The bike will turn over and start.  Just no brake lights, or hi/low beam headlights, hi beam indicator, alt, or oil pressure dash lights.

I have the tank and entire seat cowl off now.  Will switch relays around to see if that cures the problem and let you know.

  9. Ok, its been awhile since I have contributed anything here on the forum as I have been distracted with a couple dual purpose bikes.

The Breva and LeMans have been running great....until now.  Took the LeMans for a ride a couple weeks ago and it ran fine.  Went to start it for another ride and got the dreaded click click.   Damn, that Odyssey battery was just installed back in 2012.  Installed a new P545 and she cranks right over.  Now the problem.

Went to check everything over and discovered I the following lights DO NOT WORK:

No high or low beam head lamp. -

No Brake light using either front or rear brakes

    No Horn,

No dash lights for oil pressure, hi-beam, or alternator.

Strangely, the daytime running light is illuminated, as well as the license plate and tail light, the turn signals and neutral dash lights.

Checked all the fuses and everything is connected there.  Have not replaced any of the relays as of yet.  Removed tank and checked all connections, everything there is secure also.  Open for suggestions, any advice appreciated.

  10. They say practice makes perfect.....so I should be getting  pretty good at replacing fuses and wiring.  Couple weeks ago I go out and my 08 Breva 1200 Sport I purchased to replace my Norge fired right up and I rode it to meet a buddy for breakfast.  No issues there or home.  The next day I try to start it for a ride and all I hear is the dreaded click from under the seat.  Not again!!!  Yup another dead starter fuse.  Replaced the fuse, bought a Startus Interruptus and installed a heavier gauge wire from the starter relay to the starter solenoid.  Turn the key, just touch the go button and she fires right up.  All good in Guzzi Land.

  11. Chuck, do you or Scud still have any of the new shift springs available?  I keep one of the old style in my tool kit just in case my original decides to break.  It's always on my mind everytime I take the bike out and have decided to just go ahead and change the old one out while in my garage and not leaned over on some roadside in 90° heat.

  12. Hi Tim, been awhile.  Do you still have any of the new shift springs you and Chuck developed..   I keep an extra in my tool kit just in case my original decides to break but I would rather not have to try and replace it while on the side of the road somewhere.

  13. Finally reunited with my LeMans!  Have not seen nor rode it since last October!  I had done an oil and filter change last fall so the fluids were ok.  Tires needed a bit of air but still look good with just over 5k miles on them.  Put a good charge on the battery over a couple days.  Rolled it out in the driveway, pushed the go button and it fired right up.

Rode the long way from Hiawassee down towards Helen, Ga.  Immediately after tuning south on Hwy 17 had to wait for the traffic jam caused by a loose steer.  Luckily the steer moved into someone's front yard allowing traffic to clear.  Continued down 17 , then onto SR348 and Wolfpen Gap over to Two Wheels of Suchess.  Low and behold amongst the crowd set TWO MORE Guzzi!  A Balibio and a new 850.  Chatted with the guys for a bit then headed back to the house via SR60, Skeenah Pass Rd. and Hwy 76.  One hundred eighteen miles of great roads and an awesome bike!

  14. Czakky- don't feel bad.  Took my LeMans out for a nice ride Friday up here at our place in North Georgia. Weather was cool and sunny, leaves changing colors, beautiful ride and the bike ran great.

But, they are NOT the ideal bike for gravel roads.  Recently bought a klx250. Out on it Saturday and stopped to ask directions from a local.  Granted the road was on a slight incline and was slightly lower to my right side.  31" inseam and 33" seat height resulted in a rather embarrassing incident.  Glad it wasn't the LM but still felt like a dumba$$ for dropping a little 250cc bike at a standstill.   At least I provided entertainment for the local.😎😎

  15. I had an 09 Shiver 750 for several months last year.  Man that thing was a rocket and compared to the LM, I thought it was a lightweight.

Unfortunately it felt just too small while I was riding in the congested traffic around Tampa Bay area.  Used it for a down payment on a trade for an atv, which I needed for hunting.

The fit and finish was good and the engine had PLENTY of power.  I would like to try one of the newer 900's(?) just to compare, but not in any rush to replace the LeMans or Breva 1200 Sport. (Talk about portly!😁)

  16. Posting this for a friend- '01 Green V-11 Sport, Scura bikini fairing, Quat-D, 30K miles, asking $5K.  Bike owned  by elderly gentleman who can no longer ride it due to serious collision with pick up truck.  Bike is located in Northeast Ga.

For further details call (706) 994-1302 - Dennis Stone

  17. Hi Folks,

Rode my champagne  LeMans over to a shop in Blairesville, Ga. this past weekend.  While there an elderly gentleman approached and paid me a compliment about my bike.  He went on to explain that he has an '01 greenie LM that he feels is time to sell.  He was on his BMW when a Toyota p/up truck crossed directly into his path.  The ensuing collision left him with several compound fractures and he is no longer able to ride the Guzzi.

He showed me a photograph and it appears it is in excellent shape.  Only detractors were the wheels were powder coated and seat reupholstered red to match the frame. He advised he would like to get around $5K for it.  Sorry I dont have a photo, like me he is technology challenged,  but I got his phone number and told him I would post here.  For further details give him a call @706-994-1302, ask for Dennis Stone.  Wonderful gentleman.

PS- He has two residence, one here in Ga., the other in Arizona, my bad not asking where the bike is located.
