  1. As much as I love looking at BaT, it often seems like a hugely inflated "price tag justification" network. Sour grapes aside, I suppose that if you want to get your best payoff, this is the place to go. With motorcycles, it seems slightly less of a gouge, and sometimes I see a true auction win; (love out to "ultramotorsource" always fun to see what they find and flip). My brother is only into cars and guys in his club have even speculated some money laundering as a running joke. For me, I think I'm in the majority; guys that want to look at pictures and daydream. I've bid twice, one time losing by only $100, and was more terrified than excited watching the timer count down...
  2. Got to see it here in Indiana. Made my life problems seem insignificant for a few minutes...
  3. +1 on the RE 650's bang for the buck I really like my 350 classic (& will not likely part with it) but a few extra horses would be nice to have out of town. With the Meteor and the new Shotgun it looks like they can make quite a few riders happy...
  4. I'm gonna imagine that they keep trying to get the balance of "gelande" and "strasse" satisfactory for the majority of their customers. Soon, for me they will have to include a wheelchair ramp or a booster of some sort. And I know; I spent 8 years and 90k mi. trying to kill a '95 GS which still lies nearly dead in my garage...
  5. +1 on preferring the narrower tire. To me it almost makes the bike feel lighter and I don't think I've ever gone so hard as to think that it needs "more skin" out back...
  6. I've been fairly lucky with Harper's in the past, and if they didn't have something they would let me know within a week. I think we're lucky to even have a Guzzi retro part store at all...
  7. Good thing the marketing department rejected the moniker of "wet market pangolin" for the sidecar-free version....
  8. Put around 18k mi. on a '91 K100rs; it had a Luftmeister windshield extension on it and I took it off after about 6 months and sold it at a swap meet to a k-bike guy who wanted it more than me. The aerodynamics of the bike would kick in about 85-90 and would be solid and relatively quiet. The mirrors blocked out the wind and rain. I really can't decide if I regret trading in for a '95 GS 1100. If I could have afforded keeping both I would have. The GS ended up getting an Aeroflow and I put 100k on it. I think the ideal scenario would be something akin to the HD Electra glide removable rig....maybe...to each their own...
  9. I guess I got lucky a couple years ago when I replaced mine, but I wouldn't have minded because every one of those on any bike I've had came on way too early. Even my 2022 RE 350's light comes on with like the better part of a gallon left...
  10. Didn't look too closely at the trailer, but often these movie folks will put knuckehead and pan head lip stick on a modern retro bike so the stars and stunt studs can ride them more easily. They didn't call them "suicide shifts" for nothing!
  11. Got my replacement zadi pl336 ignition switch bolted on to the lock plate...the wires are different colors and I guess I'm more color blind than I thought...
  12. Ok,so I have finally gotten around to replacing my ignition switch (I broke the housing in a ham-handed attempt to take it apart, ) and have actually found a zadi pl336 replacement from Aprilia rsv1000. But instead of being truly "plug and play" the plug fittings and the wire coloring is different. Strike one, I suck at everything electrical, and strike two, I guess I'm a little more color blind than I thought I was. I really don't want to F(mess) this up, it is only four wires, and I'd rather never deal with this again. So, the original wires are (remind I'm a bit color blind) Brown (Orange?) Yellow and red Blue and red Brown (orange?) The new part is Yellow Grey/yellow Orange/(green?) Orange Can any of you fine folks help me out with matching the wires? Yeah A little lazy relying on others, but hey, isn't that what forums are all about?
  13. '97 or '98 I was on Skyline Drive and the East sides of the mountains were bright sunshine and the west sides were rain and fog. Kinda exhausting with the hot/cold transitions, even with decent Aerostich gear...
  14. Amazing! But I don't think I saw a hammer anywhere on or near the Guzzi workbench...👍🤔😂
  15. Finally got around to moving the bike to a more favorable position to mess with. Drained the old gasoline out getting ready to remove the tank when I was promptly swarmed by a cloud of mosquitoes and gave up for the day...
  16. Relay bypass surgery, Roper plate, evap garbage removal, what else? I'd like to work towards "priceless" ...uh yeah mosfet, etc...I imagine that it is like an old world cathedral; when the work is completed the world ends. 🙃
  17. I wouldn't know what it was worth or how to use it. The 1st of these I've seen was on the V11 on BaT last week. ( I haven't even pulled off the evap garbage yet either)... So louder and richer?
  18. I think I read somewhere that the average driver's depth perception doesn't register the single headlight of a motorcycle as accurately as the two headlights of a car, and helps contribute to the frequency of the cross-lane T-bone. I've experienced this myself at night with both oncoming motorcycles and cars with a burnt out headlight! One of the bazillion "danger flags" that bubble through the cauldron of my safety zone thoughts while out on the road...
  19. Exactly what I thought about. HST had a Beemer R1100RS parked in his garage during that article's photo shoot; burned into my memory...
  20. Awesome! And to remember what to do with which foot/hand combo!
  21. Read it years back, and thought it spoke well touching some of the intangible elements and sensations. Gonna have to take a look at it again and see how time has changed my feelings about the things it brings out. If I remember correctly it briefly bounces into T.E.Lawrence and his Brough Superior also!
  22. Agreed! There's some kinda weird nostalgia in my twisted sense of aesthetics that stirs my soul when I see a square (rectangular)-ish headlight!
  23. Greener than blue, but the model is correct, with the twin discs... quicker revving than the bigger airhead boxers, black valve covers and silver "snowflake" wheels. Fun machine. Since I basically started out with a shaft drive opposed twin, the torque twist is natural to me and I adjust to it and counter steer even when I'm on a "traditional" chain drive!🙃
