  1. I was seeking simplicity, light control actions, reliability and a wider dealer network than what Guzzi provides in my neck of the woods. If I were really more interested in going down the, "modern retro" rabbit hole I'd probably be saving up for a Janus, but the bang for the buck factor is definitely there for RE and I hope that other manufacturers take note...
  2. Tons easier to grease the u-joints on the drive shaft with the wheel off. I made several reference marks until I noticed the factory yellow lines...
  3. Ha! Almost went to Illinois for the Halcyon Grey. Had to go with spokes and inner tubes too! I mean, after all, retro....
  4. Guilty of taking the bronze/chrome. Normally I'm not into flashy anything, but it was lust at first sight.
  5. +1 on the fit & finish. Nice straight and even weld lines. Some of the Stripes are stickers, but bang for the buck is outstanding...btw, what are your saddlebags? I'm lugging a moto fizz on the seat right now and would like to do better. I love the functionality of the bag, but it is a little clunky and clumsy.
  6. As a "birthday present" (months early) to myself I paid cash for a 2022 Royal Enfield 350 Classic. For putting around suburbia and the work commute it nearly always brings a smile to my face. It makes going "slow' in town entertaining, I haven't found a corner angle too deep, and 83mpg to boot! The Guzzi isn't going anywhere soon, but a turnkey toy in bronze an chrome has been wedged into the now crowded garage....
  7. Kinda makes me wonder how hashed out the donor bike was...
  8. While I like most of these posts, I just went and saw Scott Bradlee's Post Modern Jukebox and was blown away!
  9. Since my body has been exhibiting "patina" for quite a few years, I don't seem to mind it on my motorcycles....
  10. Very cool. The VanGogh museum in Amsterdam is on the infernal list of " museums I've set the alarm off" in, much to the amusement of my brother...stuck my nose too close to see the thick paint layers and set off a space alarm. The guards laughed, I was mortified. Probably can't do that anymore....
  11. My siblings and I grew up halfway down a fairly good hill in a suburban neighborhood. I sped down that hill too many times to count and somehow rarely crashed! Mom was smart enough to forbid skateboarding though. And motorbikes of any kind, though my neighbor down the street had an amazing Rupp. Dad taught my brother and I clutch control by standing a pack of cigarettes on the dash and we had to start on the hill without knocking the cigs over. My first bike came after Mom & Dad had no say in it, followed by my father's stories of riding a war surplus Indian as a young man. The speed thing isn't too much of a thing anymore, but the feedback and interaction sensations are what keeps me in the game... Anyway open roads and good runs are part of the happiness distraction for me....
  12. Mine is just like that, bought with under 25 miles on it, and the exhaust cans also have that hue (along with some boot rubber smears on the pipe leading in). When I put the VIN # in with my insurance it said "rosso" for no reason and I just took it as ID "shotgunning" or some such...
  13. +1 on "if it is stupid but it works...."
  14. I had the privilege of chatting briefly with him at Mid-Ohio's vintage racing days the year MV Agusta hosted. Also demo-ed the new F41000. My autograph melted in my tank bag during the subsequent tour. Something in the man's eyes showed an awareness and grace.
  15. I've gotten so used to seeing my bike nestled in her Baxley Sport Chock that whenever I put her on the side stand I kinda hold my breath and pray even though the stand is solid ( just checked).
  16. Kinda like having a car painted a crap color. You're not gonna look at it while you're moving...
  17. "Might as well f@&I it up myself than pay someone else to do the same...."
  18. I thought that a hammer was to be prominently displayed in workshop photos...🤔
  19. 2nd thin coat of JB Weld on the ignition switch barrel.
  20. The broken plastic on the Ebay item is worse than what I've done, but the Kawasaki clue is helpful.
  21. I'm going to add some more thin layers of the dental adhesive and sand it, then maybe add something like JB Weld to the outside of the barrel. I'm still kinda hoping to find another one somewhere...
  22. So I broke part of the black plastic barrel of my ignition switch. Zadi pl336. Anyone know where I can find one, or other bikes so equipped? I've taken to it with dental adhesive, but I'm pessimistic. I haven't tried to put it back together yet as I'm adding more thin layers of the adhesive and letting them dry thoroughly... I guess limits need to be pushed occasionally but more often adhered to.
  23. Yesterday I did exactly what I didn't want to happen; I cracked part of the black plastic barrel of the ignition switch. 🤯 Then I started to see if I could buy a new one: not available. The hunt for a Zadi pl336 begins...
