  1. Arizona used to do emissions testing on motorcycles. As a fan of BMW Airheads, and having MBS (Multiple Bike Syndrome), it used to be a major pain in the butt getting the annual emissions check. The emissions people, being more used to Harleys, would put the box fan on the right 45 degree of the bike for cooling. I discovered that with the boxer engine, I could get the technicians to put the fan straight on facing the bike off the front wheel. That blew enough clean air into the sensor tubes, to get me passed. One of the best days of my life was when the state legislature dropped the emissions test requirement. And they also put in an option for a 5 year registration. Life is good. BTW, the V11 came into my life after all of this.
  2. COTA is built on black clay which overlays the caliche/limestone base rock. The clay subsides like a cheap mattress. If you think the track is bad, try riding around the parking lots and the local streets. It's a great place to test ride an adventure bike, because the test ride loop has more bumps and G-outs than most dirt roads. They didn't talk about it on TV, but I think most of the crashes were due to the wind shift and rapid temperature change during the MotoGP race. I think it caught the tire engineers out. BTW, I was there, 10th COTA GP in a row. The Moto3 race was spectacular.

  4. Scrapple - everything but the oink.
  5. I put a Dayco 80413 heater hose on my Scura in 2017. Been on there since and still looks good. The late arriving Guzzi part is in the spares box, waiting, waiting.
  6. Mine busted off of the motor while rolling down the freeway. Ran all over the rear of the bike, exhausts and rear tire sidewalls. Fortunately, it didn't drip onto the center tread of the tire. The smoke cloud was so bad, that a cop saw it from 2 miles away and stopped to see if it was OK.
  7. My Scura 2002 is ZGUKRxxxxxM115xxx. Should be good on the tranny.
  8. 2002 Scura - ZGUKRxxxxxM115xxx When I was looking into the VIN, yea, it's super confusing what is actually different between KR and KS.
  9. LaGrasta, aren't you Marzocchi fork? And didn't you use a rattle gun?
  10. Docc, is it possible to post a file (maybe in gallery) vs. the screenshot above ?
  11. Not sure if LaGrasta's original question got answered or not. But I am planning a fork seal replace and have the same question. However, my bike is a Scura with the Ohlins fork. So - Do I need a tool to hold the internals to remove the bolt at the base of the fork ? Or is the Ohlins the type of fork that has a detent at the bottom to keep the cartridge from spinning ? And yea, I know that an impact gun can be used to rattle the bolt out, but then you are only guessing at the correct torque on re-installation.

  13. I recently returned from a moto tour in the Himalayas. 17 days on rented R.E. Himalayan Scram 411. The Scram (scrambler) is a small front wheel 19' vs. 21' version of the Himalayan with shorter seat and suspension. We did over 700 miles including 3 days of HARD off pavement riding. Overall, I was very impressed with the R.E. Not much power on tap, but enough to get the job done. I found the suspension to be very good considering what the roads threw at it, compliant and able to absorb a lot of bumps without losing feel. Zero reliabliltiy issues. Able to absorb minor crash damage, as everyone on the trip dropped at least once. Except for the stock crash bars, they fold up like a cheap suit. At least they also fold back into place like a cheap suit. Put some good skid plates and crash bars and a decent luggage system on and I'd seriously consider it for an ADV tourer.
  14. With the GBP going into the "loo", might be a nice buy for those of us with $$.

    V11S Canbus

    No can bus on V11.
  16. My right side oil leak was the top oil cooler hose. Tough to track down since the oil leaked into the wire mesh jacket on the hose, then got blown off of there.
  17. The work itself is not hard or complicated. But often a special tool is required to keep the cartridge from spinning while the bottom bolt is removed. I have only rebuilt BMW forks which don't require a tool.
  18. I do. It came with the bike and I have no idea what it is programmed to or if it is even active. The bike runs great and there's an old engineering saying "If it works, don't F*&^ with it"
  19. Our seats are Section T15-25, Row 23, Seats 1-4. My darkside tire is a Leao Lion Sport 205/50R-17. I chose it because it is symmetric and has well rounded sides. I have 2 rear wheels and swap back to a moto tire for normal riding. The darkside is for the 2000+ mile, Interstate-10, tire burning ride from Mesa, AZ to Austin and back.
  20. Hmm. Black's. Unfortunately, after the race on Sunday, I point my bike west and start heading back to Mesa, AZ. Hoping to catch some dinner at Black's one of the nights. Personally, I hope MM sits this one out. If I have to watch MM lead flag to flag ONE MORE TIME . . . Nice to see Aprilia success. Here's to hoping that their new Aprilia Taureg 660 is available for demo rides !
  21. I'll be there all 3 days. Look for dark blue BMW K1600B Grand America, massively farkeled and darksided. I will be doing the track lap also, should be easy to spot in that crowd. Got Turn 15 grandstand tickets in the southernmost section.
  22. I installed the ESR515. Here in the valley of the sunstroke, it drains the battery in a few weeks. I'm planning to install a new relay switched with the key to break the red line when shut down.
