  4. Allite Super Magnesium is my first choice. I still have no idea what it’ll cost to make a set. I know I’m already $600 into it. These V11’s allegedly weigh 560+/-lbs wet. I don’t foresee a lot of weight being lost, Allite claims it weighs 30% less then Aluminium. Now that I have my set of mag valve covers, I can see about possibly getting the rear & front subframes made out of mag. All depends on how these plates go...
  5. I never thought the tails were bothersome, Chopping out the center section in that Cent sure did the trick. Oh if time and money wasn't in perennially short supply I'd have my way with that V10. I'm trying to budget in a supply of spares for the 8Valve. Since those are quite rare to begin with. Later in life and or me getting my ticket punched, it would be a nice gesture to the next owner to be secure in knowing they have parts to keep her alive.

I have some better ideas now to get what I want. When they scan these plates, I am going to have them add material to the top where it angles back in the top section. Then I can have that flat surface to do the recessed areas around the bolts and get my hole. Fill in that recess just below the tang.

  8. I certainly dislike the heavy clutch pull. This is the oldest bike I've ever owned. Truly old school Guzzi right here. Transmission feels as if hewn from rock. I honestly do not know what will happen to the bike once I've pilfered what I need. Few of the body panels are broken at the mounts. Generally in a state of neglect. The engine though.....I'm really enjoying it. Very different from the 2v, riding around today I was thinking to myself if this thing was in my Scura I'd be hunting for some rising sun types to embarrass. My next bike project is probably my last. I still have my other project in boxes collecting dust in a storage unit. I thought it was sold and the guy never sent the money..
  9. I am really starting to like this 8 valve. Spent some time fiddling with the suspension and she handles much better. Don't wanna ride it too much as I really have no idea what the poor girl has been thru. Quick blast down to my local Speedway for beverages....
  10. If it was me, I'd still order those parts and have them rebuild the caliper they get. The pistons get rusty from seal failure and the anodized one's from MG Cycle prevents that. Or you might end up in the same boat down the road. You are already paying them to pull all that off and bleed the system etc. it's not that much more in labor/parts to insure a perfectly operating caliper for years to come.
  11. Order that seal kit and those pistons, they should be able to rebuild yours. That piston kit is upgraded to prevent seizure, total parts cost about $65 plus labor. You'd still be money ahead vs buying a new one and waiting 2 months. plus, you keep your original caliper which would make @docc pleased.....

  13. You are correct, grain structure's are different for cast, cnc, forged etc. They did say they have the ability to stress analyze, I'm not entirely sure how. Granted, it won't be easy and maybe it's a step too deep into exotica because the top section of the plate would have to come out to give it that "flat daytona" look. Lets see what they have to say. Certainly would fit the bill as a one off custom piece.

  15. That red plate is my original. I switched my pair to grey ones. They should be able to provide a perfect set of files scanning my original red plates. Am I missing something?

  17. I am having the v11 plates drawn up in 2D/3D CAD files. I wanted to incorporate the “Daytona” style pockets and the hole. Also, these new plates will be made from a high tensile magnesium alloy. I just paid for the plates to be scanned and they will be sent off tomorrow. Zverse is the company that will do the scanning. I am designing this bike with several very neat features and keeping a overall theme. Blowing $600 to get some drawings of frame plates isn’t what I would consider a “value” proposition. The Daytona plate does not have the tang at the top like the v11. It’s also a little different in dimension to account for the wider tire. The back of a v11 plate: The recess around the bolt holes are there anyway. Depending on the type of material used, I don’t think opening up some of these areas, even slightly should be cause for concern as you’ll be starting out with a much stronger metal. We as Guzzi people don’t have much of aftermarket. NCR etc you can melt your credit card into goo. Aside from a scant few pieces here and there, it’s a ghost town. So if you want something exotic, you’ll need to do it yourself. My design theme has exotic in the front and the back. That seem like sound thinking?
  18. Exactly correct.... I love braking deeeeeep, crank her over and grab a handful. The millennials have yet to figure it out. I was up in Farmington Hills (outside of Detroit) a few weeks back blowing the cobwebs out and ran into a pack of angry bee’s... I chased them around for awhile and we all stopped at a gas station. Hopefully I converted at least one young gun to look into getting a Guzzi. Dialed in, my baby and I are only deficient in top end grunt. There’s really only so much you can safely thrashing around on the back roads. So the lack of that last bit doesn’t necessarily matter to a point. Compared to my F41000 or even my 999R. The MV was not fun and I couldn’t get that bike dialed in for shit. That was like the point and shoot rice style of riding. At least with the Ducati I could apply the power in a linear way and knew what she was up to. I suppose it’s a twin vs inline 4 power delivery and what you feel most comfortable with. I’m thinking once this 4v gets finished, the extra low/midrange will be most welcome along with saving some critical mass where it counts. As long as the basics don’t radically change because her and I make a great team.
  19. Okay!!! NOW I have everything. I just ordered a couple liner feet of Teknofibra 4mm flexible thermal barrier. I am going to line the underside of the fuel tank with it and eventually the carbon fiber full fairing. Ive never used this stuff so it’ll be interesting to see how well it conforms to the tank. Doing everything I can think of to prevent any problems with it. Sealed, wrapped in Carbon and now insulated along with metal fittings for the pump and quick disconnects.

  22. He’s really nice too. Looks almost like my uncle. Usually big city folk rub me the wrong way, he’s nothing like that at all. We all are getting there in this thing called life, he’s 68? Or soon to be.. guys like him are few and far between. It means a lot to me that he’s doing this. I wish I had another ass to bust! Need moar stuff.....
  23. Probably not... I asked Joe (guzzi dr) about that and he said not to worry. He’s very laid back and immensely talented... nothing I’ve talked about with him concerning my plans so much as raised an eyebrow. He basically said “bring everything you have and I’ll take care of it” I am trying to utilize as many factory parts as I can. A few things are aftermarket. As much as I dislike Chicago, going there to see Joe is worth it. The front end kinda evolved on its own. I needed a set of forks to be used as a template and I bought the same Ohlins as used on the 01. Then the wheels, I thought well, why not do the whole front end? I have the carbon fender too...
