  1. My brain still fogs into the deer in the headlight mode when I read these Guzzidiag threads. Maybe it’s because I’ve usually had a few IPAs before I settle down to look at the forum. I know this stuff won’t run on my IPad or IPhone, and I don’t have access to a Windows computer or lap top, and even if I did I am afraid that I would still be an idiot with it. Like I did when I tried using MIDI to program a DX7 keyboard. I have the stock ECU but with Mistral pipes and crossover. The bike seems to run pretty good, but ignorance is bliss and I am sure things could be optimized. Is there a YouTube or something that is a real talking to a dummy and holding their hand tutorial on this stuff?

    Tank Bag?

    I’m guessing that the MG bags might be hard to find. Has anyone had good results with the Cortech strap tank bags? They look like decent bags at a good price, but I have not tried one. In addition to the compatibility of the strap system, I wonder how generous the map window is. I too prefer to look at a paper map in a window rather than a screen. Seeing how easy an inch on a map looks, rather than seeing too much detail on a screen, yields unanticipated adventures and challenges. Isn’t that the point?
  3. Great pics! If you want to understand what is involved, check out L T Snyder’s books on DIY Desmo maintenance. I think he runs the Desmotimes site. Before you give up on the idea perhaps talk to AMS in Dallas. I have heard good things about them. Too bad you’re not looking for an adventure bike: the V4 Multistrada makes 170hp and is a valve spring motor, not a Desmo, and has something like 35,000 miles between valve checks. That’s a lot of trips to the bakery!
  4. That sounds right for the mileage, like every 15k or 18k. The Desmo service for my old air cooled 2 valve Hypermotard was around $1000 at a dealer. They do more things than just the valves, and they used expensive MOTUL oil, but that’s on a simpler 2 valve motor with not as much stuff to take off to get to the valves. My valves were also still in spec. To save money, a lot of people will do the bulk of the maintenance items themselves and bring the bike in for just the valves. Check with AMS Ducati, and maybe join the Ducati.ms forum and see if anyone will recommend a good non-dealer Ducati shop in your area as you will probably save some money.
  5. Your Porsche was a compromise? Ummmm….ok. $10k for a salvage title is too high. You can find a nice Duc 959 Panigale V2 for around that. One thing to be mindful of: people sell off their Ducatis when they are due for a Desmo valve service or new timing belts, but I don’t think Panigales engines have belts. If the bike is due for a Desmo service (or belts if that applies to the bike you’re considering) factor that into the price of the bike.

  7. Have you seen the Bayliss edition of the V2? https://www.ducati.com/us/en/bikes/panigale/panigale-v2-bayliss-1st-championship-20th-anniversary It comes with Ohlins suspension. I don’t believe the standard V2 has the “S” option for Ohlins. I guess Ducati figures that if someone were to pay the extra for Ohlins on a V2 they would just go for V4.
  8. And the SS will not have the level of thermal discomfort as the Panigales for street riding, particularly the V4. You will need a pair of asbestos riding pants for your commute. The SS has the same engine that Ducati uses for the Monster 950, Multistrada 950, Hypermotard, and Desert X. It’s their go-to performance street motor. The SS seems like the best sport touring bike Ducati is putting out, in the wake of the dearly departed ST line.
  9. FWIW, Bruno at G-B is really nice and easy to do business with. I bought one of his rear mudguards and the CF is nice. Btw, what is a wave disc? I like my green booty lid, but it’s good to know that there could be spares, like this CF venture, available. I have been thinking how cool a belly pan would look on the bike. Once a manufacturer creates the mold, can they easy create the parts in fiberglass as well CF? This may be a good option for parts to be painted. Do we have correct paint codes to match the green paint and other colors for those who need parts painted?
  10. The Aprilia V4s have a cable clutch, including the “factory” models and those bikes are expensive, so it may be more of an intention than a concession. My ‘09 Duc with a hydraulic dry clutch is no harder to pull on than my V11’s hydraulic dry clutch. It is a great feeling clutch. My 850T cable dry clutch is much stiffer. The Ducati V2 has an up and down quick shifter, so you can give your clutch hand a break….does the Triumph have one too?
  11. I was going to go with M9RR last time on the V11 but couldn’t find the right size and went with Road 5. They are pretty good! I’ll see how long they last. I need a new rear on my Hypermotard as the Pilot Power rear has gone square and worn after about 5k miles. I may replace both front and rear on that bike with a set of M9RR’s to check them out. For Michelin’s, I think I am happier with the Road 5 on the V11 than the Pilot Power on the Duc. The 5’s feel very solid and confident in all riding conditions on the V11.
  12. Ducati V2 Panigale. It’s like 150hp and lots of torque in 400lbs, in the same ballpark as the Triumph, and it’s a v-twin, and it’s Italian and a sexy beast. There’s a V2 Street Fighter coming out. If a triple is of interest, why not one of the MV 800s? I would really love to have a Super Veloce or a Tourismo Veloce. Yeah, I know that the guy who runs it is a rich young Russian. Too bad for him.
  13. The very early ‘70’s period is my fave for the dead. I think Garcia’s best tone was his strat through a twin, even when using a twin for a preamp in an extended wall of sound thing. I don’t think I ever saw pigpen. Saw the new riders and other Bay Area stuff as a kid, at my school and in la honda and other weird places, but didn’t go to the dead proper until me and my friends were old enough to drive up to winterland and gg park, around 1975. So glad that I’m old enough to have had the pleasure.
  14. A tough rider on a tough bike. Always great to see custom Guzzis. The tank looks a bit exaggerated, perhaps in proportion to the cut down headlight and seat.
  15. I think that Pigpen and Janis were born out of time, not for all of those acid eating hippies. They should of gotten out of S.F. and gone to Chicago. R.I.P.!
  16. Never saw the scooters before. Thank you! I want one. I have been wanting to get an old Vespa for putting around on, but make it a Guzzi! Those ladies look like a handful. And they have good taste in wheels, and cool helmets…..and fishnets! Who are they? As a kid growing up in the S.F. Bay Area, I used to love watching the Bay City Bombers roller derby on T.V. Those ladies were really tough. I think it was broadcast on good old KTVU channel 2, home of weather forecaster Bob Wilkins’ Creature Features midnight movies.
  17. For real?!? That is too friggin’ cool. Man, if you really got a Warriors cut…..all I can say is alright! P6x, come out and play! Wow. Seriously, a bad ass leather vest, or a funky cut, is really great, imho. I’m really tempted to go see Gwen at Cal Leathers in Ventura and have her make one for me. A hand made leather piece like that has a lot of character and soul, and is a perfect canvas for patches, pins, whatever.

  20. If you’re looking for something to put patches on, why not just don an old-school bikers’ cut or vest? It would serve the purpose of displaying patches and can be worn over what ever seasonal attire you ride with. As mentioned above, perforated and vented leathers work in hot weather.
  21. After being sorted a bit, she’s back to daily rider. An Ohlins shock, Racetech springs, and Road 5s (160 rear) are really working well. 95 is the new 80! That’s MPH, not my age.
