  1. Thanks to all for the input. No problem tearing something apart. My feeling is if I F**k it up I can always tow it to the shop. I think of as plan B as in Back-up! When I had the NERO the only thing that wasn't messed with was the suspension. However, when I finally got it dialed in that bike was awsome! Tracked better and turned better than I could ever imagine that it could. In all fairness....are they primitive bikes....Yes. However, they're a farging riot when the engine, sound, and especially the suspension is dialed in. I've got a 1200GS, a Ducati Sport Classic 1000 in the garage and all I want to do is ride the Goose! Nuff said.
  2. I stand corrected. I should of known better...Hell I was there! I walked up except for the last 4 steps, ran like hell while juking and wheezing. Big smile on my face. On a more important topic....Put the PC in and it does run better however, def. want to dyno it just to have everything dialed in. Peace of mind I guess. Mostly, been spending time cleaning and polishing. It was a bit neglected. Spent the last two days just doing that! Lookin' good so far. Next....like I said, dyno then start messin' with the suspension. I don't know why some people buy bikes, particularly with Ohlins or any high end suspension and don't dial them in. As far as I'm concerned that's more than half the bike! I've seen it over and over again with bikes that have the latest PC, Titanium pipes et.al. and the suspension goes unchecked. It seems endemic with all bike makes and their owners. This vent isn't so much a dis to my fellow riders/owners, I just kind of find it a shame that most bikes out there aren't dialed in for their owners and in some way don't know what's missing. Needless to say my newest bike is exactly where the factory left it. Sooooo.......that's next for me. Enough ranting....thanks for your answers on my original questions. Can't hardly wait to get everything sorted and then flog her.
  3. Well...not exactly new. NEW FOR ME.....just got it and I'm thrilled!!!! Had a beautiful Nero 04.....unfortunately it got totaled this past year and I cried big time. Well now I've got a pretty new '04 Coppa with 5800 miles on it. UNBELIEVABLE! I feel like Rocky on the steps of the Philly Museum. Yea...I know....Old school. Man what a bike though. Needs a good cleaning and some really good TLC. I do feel it's not as quick or as tight as the Nero in relation to the throttle reponse. QUESTION: Before I laid the Nero to rest it had a Power Commander on it...ran great. Is it possible to just plug the old Commander into the Coppa. It's the same engine same everything mechanic wise, including the Titaniums, crossovers etc......or does it need to be re-set on the Dyno. The maps I'm sure are same as well....Watcha all think? Did I mention I have New for me Coppa. I F**king love these bikes! BTW...for those of you who know me....I'm NOT selling the Duc (Sport Classic) or the Beemer (GS)......Some Friggin' collection eh? The Coppa is #1 as of now....Thanks All and glad to be back! This one's a keeper!
  4. Aaron, Got your shims a couple of days ago. Thanks for helping me and all of us with this problem. What a difference! I think the sound is even better because A) no blowby and no more rattling sound like the ding ding ding I kept hearing. Now I can really hear the clutch clatter in neutral and boy...even that sounds great! Thanks again.

    Tech Day?!?

Would anyone be interested in a Tech Day here in Northern Cal.? If your interested in doing your own wrenching (or not) you could come by and see how a valve adjustment is done or maybe that shifter spring needs to be replaced prior to breaking, a tune-up, throttle sink....you get the picture. I'm thinking in terms of a day, set aside, where some knowledgeable folks out there that can hand-hold the rest of us. Things needed: 1) a garage...a big garage (warehouse really) that could accommodate all...or a really big driveway 2) everyone brings there own tools (or least the ones they have) twinmax etc...,manuals, books, ideas, PARTS! 3) showcase maybe three or four bikes that need different services 4)Donuts/coffee/food 5)Cameras, notebooks, questions... 6)MOST IMPORTANT...owners that know this stuff and would be willing to give up an afternoon to enlighten the rest of us. I think that this sight has alot of great and useful info. Pics and all but, I'm kind of a visual guy....yea, I checked the hooters thread....but, I think it might be what we need around here. Hands on experience. Not to mention an opp. to visit with like minded gents. Watcha think????? BTW...I'd be more than happy to offer my place here in Los Gatos. I just don't know if I could accomodate all with my limited space but, I'm willing. If someone has a better idea.....
  6. Yep...I just put 125miles on yesterday so I'm at the 6,000 mi. mark and counting. Just in case it doesn't go through. BTW....NO WEEPAGE!!!!! That Redline is like Magical Mystery Oil. Remember that stuff? Fixed everything. Good for your engine, great for your hair, you could cook with it...fought crime, cured cancer...anyway, I'm happy about the Redline and at this point even though it may be a bit premature...I think it help and cured my weepage problem. So a def.
  7. Greg, They did...sort of. Evidently the bike had a Canadian sticker on it. However, the lady at the DMV pushed it through. Kinda funny...she said, "oh, your friend must of bought the bike in Canada"...my response was.. " oh yea, forgot about that....yea... that was it....wow, totally forgot about that... then he had it shipped to atlanta". Thank goodness she was nice...She was clearly fron India so I mentioned when she was looking for the sticker that it probably wasn't in the same place as a Royal Enfield. She got a kick out of that and ended up telling me about her time as a little girl on the back of her brothers bike. 45 min, later I got the paper work. I guess that helped me a little. So as it stands, I'm waiting for the plates. Thanks again ...BTW I've put almost 1,000mi on it since I got it. So I'm getting closer to that 7,500 mi mark and it won't matter I guess if it doesn't go through. Then it's considered used;)R-
  8. Ok...Good news. Changed the gear oil with Redline. IMO the gear oil that MG advises looked very thin to me. Forget about what they say the viscosity numbers are for their gear oil...hell it looked to be 30w motor oil at best. Now this stuff had just been replaced by the dealer and I'm sure they used what was called for however, compared to Redline it's an incredible difference. I have an 1100 RT and have done the gear oil change with that bike and the BMW gear oil was never that thin. BTW I switched to redline about a year and a half ago and it made a heck of a difference with the gear change. Back to the Nero...went for a 50 mile ride after the oil change and wow...the bike ran smoother and the gear changes weren't as clunky and notchy. Felt like butter and in fact (maybe psycological) but I swear I could tell what gear I was in much easier. As well, I could feel the gear(s) pull easier throughout the rev range. Well, finally got back and checked to see if I had a leak....not a drop. Kept checking it throughout the day and even before I turned in. No drop. Is it cured? So far so good. However, will continue to ride and put more miles on and will keep you all updated. Do I really want this to work...hell yes! The idea of tearing it down to rebuild it when it runs so well now scares the crap out of me. I don't really know if it'll come back the same way no matter how good the intentions of all concerned are. In any case , I'll ride it for now, keep checking it and at worst, if the leak starts up again at least think about getting it fixed before the warranty date is up.
  9. Thanks all, I'm giving the redline a try. Hopefully it'll cure the problem...for now.
  10. I have a Nero Corsa which has a small gear oil weepage leak right above the crossover pipes. It doesn't leak when I'm riding that I can discern, (I check it the second I'm off the bike) however, when it is parked after a few hours it leaks one small drop and continues the next day which amounts to maybe two or three drops. This has been going on for a month and a half (that I've noticed). Good news, the bike is still under warranty until the end of the year. Bad news, the engine needs to be taken down to fix the problem. Let me preface my questions with the understanding that I've read most of the threads on this site concerning this particular problem. My first question-should I go ahead and try the redline first and see if it stops and if it does, forget about the fix or have it fixed under warranty anyway? Second question-does anybody think this is going to be a recurring problem after I get it fixed and how long will it last? Third...If I try to tighten the bolts myself (on the bike and without a torque wrench) can I do more damage than good? BTW...other than that, the bike rides perfectly....What a ride.

    Hi to everyone

Nice bike. Don't mean to be to critical but I don't really like the tank. Just a thought though. I think it would look very cool if you could continue the paint scheme on the tank as you did to the front of the fairing and the back. Same color, with stripe and checkerboard look. Welcome to the forum.
  12. Ok....I'm going to just ride. Hell-2,500 miles. Maybe it's time for that Iron Butt Award. Not! But, I'm not going to complain. It's the best bike I've ever ridden. Awsome. And since the posting I've already put an additional 250 miles on her. 2,225 mi. to go! Keep on spinnin'...keep on spinnin'...
  13. Well, I finally got the bike here in California. Unfortunately, it was slightly damaged when it arrived but, insurance will take care of it. BTW, the people at Moto Italiano of San Jose are awsome! Great help, got me on the road this weekend and man....What a F**kin bike. I love it! Even when it's parked you can smell the garlic, basil and extra virgin olive oil wafting from that engine! What an experience. Anyway, went to the DMV to get it registered with all the right papers and they couldn't find the emission sticker on the bike. Looked everywhere for it. Since I couldn't register it I finally went home and called my friend that I bought the bike from in Georgia. He got in touch with the dealer that he bought it from and they indicated that the emission sticker was only needed in California. So it never had one. I did find out however, that if you have 7,500 miles on the bike, it doesn't need the sticker. I know, I know.... but the bike has only 5,000 miles on it and I'm concerned about getting stopped without a proper tag. Question: Any suggestions? Should I take my chances until I get the 7,500 miles? Does anybody have any suggestions in getting a temporary tag? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm riding this bike now with the dealer (paper tag) on it but, am concerned how long I can keep this charade going till the 7,500 mark. Has anybody else experienced this problem? Thanks for any help anybody can offer.
  14. Ratchethack, did you buy the service manual? Is it complete in the sense of not only telling you what to do do but showing you as well?
