  1. Those are all the details I have. What an interesting cat.
  2. I am so sorry to share that our member Mikko passed away unexpectedly January 10, 2024. He was an extraordinary fellow and I will surely miss him. R.I.P. Mikko
  3. Alright, sorry about the stab at humor. Richard Widman's air-cooled engine (Corvair) discussion is still, IMCO, worth sharing. Sure, this input still requires some "extrapolation" to apply to our V11, but ever relevant for air cooled motors. I remain a devotée to Group 5 base oil in the 20W-50 range in my original Moto Guzzi specifications. https://www.widman.biz/uploads/Corvair_oil.pdf
  4. Yak fat proponents, step ye forth!
  5. If you can park the bike upright and open the level plug to drain overnight, any overfill will self correct. Otherwise, seal failure will manifest by dripping off the bottom of the bell flange if it is the large, inboard seal. Or at the right swingarm junction if it is the deep, inboard seal.
  6. I have had two motorcycle crashes. One with a heavy leather jacket/ no armor and the other in leathers with armor. Armor for me, now, in all riding gear. I've seen the difference in impact dispersion.
  7. Returning, in some convoluted way, to the matter of things German(ic), I found it most interesting that Mexican beer, and many from Texas, owe their origins to the Germans (and "Austrians") that emigrated here under Emperor Maximillian. Max did not stay, but the beer did! One of my current favorites: Shiner Bock (Shiner, Texas) from the Spoetzl Brewery. ("Spötzl?")
  8. Weekend after (US) Labor Day: September 6-8, 2024
  9. Less than six months out, now @gstallons . . . Time to put yer-anus in gear!
  10. How are the beam patterns and fit in the later V11 plastic headlamp buckets, @Tomchri ?
  11. I hope someone has some good advice on getting your forks to seal. Back in the shop, I see I used 100 mm air gap on my early Sport 40mm Marzocchi, corresponding to 330 ml fluid per leg.
  12. 4 1/2 years/ 20,000 miles/32.000 km. Very happy with this unit. Both the hi-beam pattern and low beam cut off are really excellent in the early Sport Bosch steel bucket: https://vintagecarleds.com/shop/bulbs-only/vcm3-bulbs-only/
  13. Regardless of the stated volume, the air gap is used to further tune the effective damping. FWIW, YMMV, my [100 mm] air gap yielded a 370 330 ml per leg volume. [edit: corrected after referencing my notes.]
  14. It seemed our own @swooshdave might speak to this Frisian business......

    I reckon so!
  16. Titanium canisters not shown in this stunning view.
  17. I did not know abut Dr. John's mechanical engineering background. From his obituary, linked above: "Studying mechanical engineering at Lehigh University (always with a love of fixing things), he applied his inherent talent and skills to help improve human performance." I am so enjoying the motolitaliane publication, "Dr. John's Moto Guzzi." It is giving me a renewed perspective and respect for his contributions that ultimately became our beloved V11 SpineFrames.
  18. Good luck convincing anyone these days that letting someone else go ahead could be in their best interests. More likely to stir infuriation.
  19. @dbarb3, I did want to bring your attention to this very specific, and common, failure of the lower angle drive where the brass mounting insert extracts itself from the body of the angle drive and the speedo needle wags, then quits:
  20. I found this considered post by a fellow on AdvRider: "The first numbers appear to be the ID of the spring in millimeters with both ends specified. The second number appears to be the spring rate in Newtons/mm (conversion = 5.71:1 to get to lbs/inch). And, the third appears to be the spring length in millimeters. " I would think that the spring rate would suit your weight. If the sag is acceptable, I would leave it alone.
  21. Reference to the previous thread and replies: While the failed angle drive is usually the one at the gearbox, remember there is an angle drive on the back of the speedometer, as well.
