  1. ok this is very confusing because: a)my surname is also morris B)i am suitably qualified to be a sod c)i also have an 01 rosso mandello d)i live in australia e) i have had the same symptoms (being a sod and the hiccup) Having said all this, i have previsouly posted a few strings onthis same topic, had tuning dramas and replaced a TPS. Ultimately, pete roper (aka "the wizard" from motomoda) fixed it by simply tuning it right. DO NOT try to get it running right by assuming teh factory TPS settings are necassarily right. After tuning/riding/tuning/riding pete ultimately settled ona non standard setting for mine which al but eleimiated this propensity. Symptoms were identical. Having said this, it coudl of course be relays or valves ( or temp sensor) but my ride is not perfect and is 100% stock so the fact we got it right shows it is possible. Ive spoken to many owners whos uffer the same fate and IM convinced that (for whatever reason and it may be a set of symptoms although ive heard of it on brand new and older FI bike) they are a bit prone to it. Factory settings and guzzi "service centres" almost all struggle with this issue; recently witnessed a place at mona vale struggling with the excat same issue ona 100km old bike recently on a dyno! I also seriously considered a Jerriereis myecu which by all accounts (and logically) improves things quite a lot allowing more tuning capability. Stringely, i met a fellow on the way back from Phillip Island also from Quneensland also with a rosson mandello and he had amyecu fitted with all the options; was very happy My suggestion would be speak to pete and try adjusting the tps/tuning i reckon thatll do it. NOw, having said all this, i will close with the fact that mine still occasionally misses, pops or stutters. But its so infrequent and predominantly when im commuting in heavy traffic and i cant help thinking we are asking too much of an air cooled 1100 to expect it to beperfect in a wide range of consitions, much as it would be nice. good luck!

    My15M

richard i looked at these recently and had a chat with cliff. He seemed to really know his stuff. Also heard good stories through the moto guzzi owners association on NSW and Moto moda (pete roper, aka the wizard). I alos met a guy with a rosso mandello (same as mine) onthe way back from Philip island few weeks back who had one fitted. he was raving a bout it although, stilllearning how to use it/adjust it etc. He had every option including the dash mounted optimiser and lambda sensor so ha d a lot of potential adjustability; a good thing or a bad thing ! IN the end, i got my bike running perfectly with the stock unit so although im sure there are better units than can do more, teh stocker can work really well. nigev11
  3. hey andy im stuck inthe office in Sydney Australia so cant get to Waco any time soon BUT, to me this sounds like a classic fuel tank breather problem. IF its running ok when it does go then it suggests carbs and ignition is ok. So, I woudl guess that there is a fuel tank breather that is blocked; as the vacum gets too high fuel cant get sucked through, stop, pressure rgadually eases, carbs fiill up and away you go. Check for a pinched breather hose or a filler cap that will have a breather hole/vent. Easy way to test is when it starts playing up, crack the seal onthe tank and it should allow free flow again good luck nigev11

    TPS fixed

thanks to everyone who helped steer me towards the Harley TPS (A$80) instead of the Guzzi TPS (A$500). I got the bike back and have been riding for a few weeks now and it is as good if not better than it ever was. Havent pulled apart the original to see what failed but will. Whilst the "mapping ramp" is slightly different (see seprate posts and analysis) I cant picka difference day to day. yay to the forum, evryoen should take a good hard look at them self and feel proud, im tearin' up just thinking about how great you guys are nigev11
  6. I concurr witht everything posted but want to add one thing; make sure you have the right sized tyres! I bought my 01 v11 about 6 months ago (after 10 years with a mkv). I found its handling quite peculiar at first. adjusted a few thinsg and got it better. The riding style you need is abit different to what Ive experienced before. You have to steer these things from your arse and with your knees as someone else said. Relax and let the bars goa bit. Feel the bikes COG and use it. Mine starts to feel nervous and harsh of i try to steer it too much. Replaced the tyres and discovered the rear was oversized and squared off. The difference was nothing short of astounding; re-adjusted all the suspension, overhauled the forks and hey presto. nuetral, (like a beigist) on rails (like a junkie?) smooooooth (like a puddin) nigev11
  7. Now you see, this is what I love about this forum. My rosso mandello also suffered a black eye and I was told IF a headlight coudl be bought (orig) it was only available as complete and was almost A$400. Thankfully, i had some silicon to fill the hole and have been happy ever since but I am delighted to knwo I can get an affordabel alternative. MOTO GUZZI; ARE YOU LISTENING TO ALL THIS????? STOP OVERCHARGING US FOR BASIC SPARES AND WILL BE EVEN MORE LOYAL (IF THATS POSSIBLE) flame off! nigev11

    V11 FAIRING

doug lemans fairing, yes? complete with mounts, headlight etc, yes? i could be tempted...... nigev11
  9. Hey Denis from Maine Nige from Sydney here. Mate, my 01 Rosso Mandello does exactly the same thing. I havent noticed any difference in headlight output but the surging, stuttering and occasioanl popping I have had, got rid of and now have again ! As my other posts suggest (ref TPS failure) I recently had a TPS failure and replaced it butu the useless fuckers I took it to took 15 days to deliver a hoepless state of tune (watch this space for my outcome..) In my experience this is a FI tuning issue. Ive had people tell me its this and that, tried them all and when someone who has an Axone and knows how to balance the injectors properly (aka Pete Roper), i get smooth running. Most of riding is commuting and thus trailing throttle or small throttle openings. I know its curable, dont give up !

    V11 Fairing

FWIW, I reckon the standrd headlight fitted fairing as fitted to my rosso mandello is not bad. At 5' 11' it direct the air towards my upper chest and thus is a bit noisy and buffety but it is a small fairing. I dont mind this as it helps keep the weight off the wrists/back. As a bike used primarily inthe city, its a good compromise between nothing and well, something.
  11. sylk wouldnt we all. The best guy i know of in town is motocicilo, he's at St Peters BUT he's not an official service agent so doesnt have the computer stuff to do injection tuning; everything else he can do just fine. I recently spoke witht he impoirter and they reccomended motor cycle weaponary at Mono Vale; I have no experience with them. I have tried motorino at Homebush and had a bad experience, but they have my bike right now and hopefully will do a great job this time...
  12. point taken ona second opinion. Unfortunately, Im in need of wheels and have topay every time i take it to an agent. Ill certainly be getting the old part checked over once its replaced. The good news is i found some links elsewhere that specified the details http://www.guzzitech.com/HD-TPS-Jeff_B.html So, rang around a few harley dealers and have one on the way; A$89 instead of A$600. Un&*(&*&) beleivable. As Jeff points out in his rave, they do behave slightly differently; fueling a bit richer down low and a bit leaner up high, but also reports most people cant notice any difference. Ill give it a try and report back ina week or so. nigev11 cliff; just read your post edit; you are right it was sweet and i am stumped why it would suddenly fail. ONly thing I can think is that when i screwed around tryng to set it up before i gave up and sent it to roper, i a)damaged it by dousing it in contact cleaner and it took time to manifest or b)where we bared the wires to get probes in we damaged the connection or I allowed it to short over time causing damage. I already replaced the temp sensor last week to no avail. Motorino said it was cactus and i had a bad experience with them once before, swore id never go back. But after talking to the importer and the GM at motorino i decided to give them another shot mostly because they are so damn convenient to my work. and also becasue they had made changes and their mechanic used to work for the importer so should know his stuff. for $89 its worth a go and theyhave the bike already. where are you cliff? im at curl curl
  13. ok; ive just been informed that my TPS is cactus. Might explain a few previous probs although it had been running sweet as aping for 4000kms or so. I read a thread but cant find it on where to buy alternatives to original guzzi TPS? PLEASE HELP ?! the original part is $600 !!!!!! i recall a US company manufactures them, i want to see if i can hunt one down direct nigev11
  14. after months of perfect running, my v11 rm started acting wierd; best described as feeling liek the choke was permanantly on. Plugs black as soot, rough running but under full throttle goes like a cut snake, wont idle. new plugs, new caps, no difference. by all accounts ive been advised this is most likely to be a problem with the engine/oil tem sensor located on the rear of the rh head. I followed the manuals instructions (put a spanner on it and take it out and teh sensor came out just fine. Did same to the "oil temp sensor stand off" and "snap" it breaks into peices. WARNING; these are brittle plastic and easily broken. Thansk to lots of help i found replacements and will fit them tonight along with some dialetric grease to ensure the senor is getting good conduction of heat and thus, the right message to the ECU. Questions: 1 I was told ametal/brass replacement was available but the local guzzi distrubutor wasnt aware of one 2 Anyone explain to me how the hell you are supposed to screw the plastic stand off back into the head with decent tension and NOT breaking it? 3 Anyone else had a similar experience with poor running and this being teh solution? thanks ! nigev11
  15. hey; winter in Sydney aint so bad! Im at 27000kms now and coudnt be happier.
  16. hey all just finished 5000kms since getting a tune up on my 01 RM. What a difference! I had given up hope that i could eliminate the stuttering, pinging, poor just off idle performance but credit where credit is due; that mad bastard roper (aka motomoda) had it running sweet as a pin in a couple of hours flat. Still suffers a slight case of pinging but that seems par for the course and he reckons he has some ideas on that too. the majority of my riding is a heavy duty 40km each way commute through sydney traffic everday so im hardly doing what she was intended for ! this site is a constant source of mind numbing, wife angering reasons to get out in the shed and tinker, eh? nigev11

    gday mate

Gday been watching for a while, great site guys, decided to sign up. Hi all ! Im based in Sydney and recognise a few names from AIGOR and MGOC NSW. Im on my third guzzi in 16 years and "have teh disease bad". Cant seem to get ecited about any other make. Been a dedicated old square fin man for years (loved my black mk v) but ha d aminor bingle, managed to fix it, sell it and get the insurance so upgraded to avoid the "that old thing is unreliable and expensive you love it and your shed more than us etc etc " routine. Since most of my riding is commuting anyway i went looking and found a 2001 rosso mandello with 20k kms. Hey presto, im converterted to spine frames. Love this thing as much as the old one if not more and havinga ball getting to know it. Interesting to relearn to ride after 10 years on a mk v; subtle but significant differences. anyhow, nice to be here. nigemkv
