  1. Yeah I did it.... Since Jaap is checking all the lurkers I might as well place a post - maybe you guys will expell me but hey I still have my Guzzis After 5 months of considering I traded my rosso corsa for a breva v1100 (corsa red of course). Why would I do such a thing.. well quite simple, after my accident last year the v11 was giving me cramps im my right leg after 45 min or even less. When I got home from sea beginning of october I tried it two more times but even half an hour was too much where as I didn't have any problem when riding my v75 policia - It was just the angle my knee couldn't make anymore. I was also considering a Griso until I saw on the pictures that the angle upper-lower leg was even smaller than on my v11. So I opted for the breva and what a good choice it turned out to be , I'm in love again got it 3 weeks ago but the weather was so nice lately I already made 3000 km. Part in the German Eiffel, part in the Belgium Ardennes and I really must say that she handles much nicer than the v11 rosso corsa. I've read nice and not so nice things about the breva v1100 , the not so nice aguments all came from guzzisti and the nice arguments mostly from motorcycle reporters. But believe it or not this is the best guzzi ever made till now and yes it is still a guzzi It's obvious there is still room for improvement - the exhaust collector is ugly but hey that is the downside of protecting our enviroment - the original screen is still something I don't know if I'll keep it or not - well I have a schuberth c2 and wear plugs so the noise is minimal but the height is not correct - lot of turbulence. I got the guzzi panniers and topcase - cost some but it is very nice looking (the panniers look like a clone from the aprilia futura - well they're stamped aprilia inside - and came with nice innerbags. And second best of all I mounted a streetpilot 2610 with perfect cradle - it fits beautiful and what a pleasure it is to ride with gps- programmed it at home for 300 km of mountain twisties in the ardennes (low mountains of course) and it's just driving for the fun now. And everything works.... - speedo , revs and the 'onboard computer ' it actually all works which is how it should be on a new motorcycle but never was with guzzi. Still vibrations but no more numb right hand, most comfortable ride I ever had (on a guzzi, but comparable to a triumph tiger 955i) and the metzeler roadtech tires are really superb. So all in all a good trade - and I'm happy with my breva will I be expelled from this forum now???
  2. Hi, disembarked my vessel in augusta in august last year and had to fly from catania to amsterdam - augusta- catania was about 2 hours drive (italian style) There are no good roads on Sicily - ( that is , the deck isn't much good) - on the other hand there is not one road straight and personally I would love to drive overthere - full of twisties and nice hills, impossible to get lost - just head for the sea and follow the coastal freeway. Food is great - be carefull with the ladies though, I heard the men still carry their "lupo" (small shotgun). And carefull with speeding - even mr Enzo wouldn't talk himself out of a speeding ticket given by an sicillian cop. have fun ciao
  3. Thanks guys, I didn't talk too much about it because crashing with 120mph sounds more understandable (would be amazing too since a v75 doesn't make that speed) - with 20mph sounds definitely not so cool although it was'n my fault But the sun is shining again Jaap, I won't be seeing you at boxmeer cause this accident kind of messed up my schedule completely - in april I'm due for the next medical and if all goes well I can go to sea again , 4 months so there goes my summer ciao
  4. Btw Al Here's the bike going to tlm for damage check and how she was before they declared it totall loss - I just bought it for 1750 euros - because of a damage to the frame - but I managed to replace the top frame - kind of open hart surgery - last week It's a good bike - why scrap it... ciao
  5. Hi Al , thanks for the reply I didn't really went away (not physical at least but more mental) I was involved in a crash beginning of october 2004 (with my v75) and the physical recovery of it is still not over - but fortunately I'm getting out of my mental dip. The dip started when the orthopedic surgeon told me I might never use my right knee up to the extend for riding a sports bike and moreover he was not sure I could ever do my work again. so after surgery, two ss bolts m6x70mm which will stay in forever , 8 weeks in plaster and 4 weeks brace I'm recovering now and last week I managed to bend my knee so that I could sit on my v11 (riding it will take some months more). So I'm relatively happy now and the surgeon very proud of his work for him. It is all very technical and I can't find the right english words for it but when I fell I hit my knee and lower leg which caused my lower leg to shift aft and breaking the upper part of my shinbone (eminentia) where the two "cross bands"as we call it or tendons in the back of my knee are attached. so basically my lower leg was a bit disconneted.. My daughter was riding piggyback but fortunately she just had some bruses - I was just doing 40 km/hr at the time in the city when a drunk lady in a car decided to run me off the road. women + cars + alcohol = killer mixture... My question for the dual plugs (- and I've read all the info) was in my mind for some time - tlm has a service to pick up your bike and service it - the pick up is free and I was thinking of combining it but I have to be sure first it's worthwile. Which - up to now I'm not , although yes in europe they are very fond of twinsparking - with cars it was alfa romeo who made it popular - bmw motors also twinsparks all models now and there are more examples. I'm not looking for more power or more speed (I would have bought a R1 if I wanted that) just a smoother ride - on the other hand I have no complaints about the v11 for the first 10.000 miles I ride with ti gianelli's and a mistral X-over and never really noticed a dip around 4000 which btw is very notable on my v75 (but hey with only 48HP what do you expect) So there's the story in a nut shell ciao
  6. And before I forget , thanks jan and Paul for the V11 parts lists ciao
  7. Paul , it works ok Thanks a million , I saw that my faithfull V75 is also listed so you've made me very happy... Up to now I always used the workshop book from a V35 to V65 which in most cases is okay but this is definitely better. Last week I replaced the upperpart of my V75 frame for an other one - not so legal but I refused to give up on her after she was declared totall loss (I had an argument with a drunk lady in a car - the car won and I lost) The lawsuit will take the better part of another couple of years but hey , after 5 months I can at least walk, even bend my knee to the extend that I can ride on my v11 and I got the v75 running again for just over 600 euros of used parts. Just checking now if I didn't forget any bolts. thanks again for the program ciao
  8. Hoi Paul, I'm not such an expert in computers , exactly how do I set up the program? I work with windows XP-pro and harddisc is partitioned in C-D-E where C is only windows and D is all other programs. ciao Ruud
  9. Well, I'm finally back and saw this topic is still alive? Amazing but since it is I too have a question , suppose it has been asked before but I'll do it anyhow: Who has dual plugged theirt bike and what are your results/feelings about it. I'm particularly interested in Dutch riders who had their bike done at TLM was it worth it? and - how much was it caio, Rudi
  10. Well this is all very interesting as I was thingking of modifying the air intake too but I don't want any excessive sound for the same reasons as Paul. But I'm wondering, after 18 years of lengthy conversations with many (ship's) engineers I know one thing for sure: any engine performs better with relative cold air in large quantities and since they are always bitching and complaining about the difference in cylinder temperatures , I believe that this is also important, one reason why I think that any v-twin like a harley is a wrong concept and our v-twin is a better design. so Al , in this set up the air is not too hot? I agree with the arguments that ram air is just a hype as in the real world we'll never go that fast continuously to have much benefits and indeed the computer needs to be very sophisticated. So I would go for the pods , btw which K&N type does fit on a '03 V11 ?? ciao
  11. Well I have to disagree here, the emission control on the bmw boxers sure was/is the cause for the poor performance of the bikes in 2001 and 2002. The ones sold here in holland were up to german emission standards which I believe are amongst the highest in the world and the guys I know all changed their eproms, it was not a mechanical flaw since the bikes worked way better with different eproms. But to go back on guzzi's I'm curious about some things: Theoretically if the MG set-up is good there is no need for a powercommander. If you add a PCIII because you change the intake / exhaust system - either the mufflers or the x-over or both then you take away the catalyst system, the lambda probe is in the x-over and for what I understood from the mechanic at Teo Lamers the catalyst is in the muffler. Well isn't that illegal?, it sure is over here, it's already illegal if you produce more that 80dB of sound. Moreover, the 2003 version has a different compression, different valve timings and presumably the catalyst version has a different ecu so I would guess that a PCIII would fit but there sure are no maps (yet) btw, and I have to agree with this, the mechanic I spoke with who adjusted my bike said to me that a powercommander on a guzzi doesn't help that much, most of the problems with settings on a guzzi occur in the range 1500-2500rpm and I have been told many times by friends with guzzi's to try to keep it at least at 3000 rpm, from 3000 to 7800 mine works great. but congratulations with the bike, to go for the ohlins was exactly my reason to buy this version and they work perfect. The manual only gives the factory settings but at the ohlinssite you can find all the data you need in pdf files. I'll go for a spin myself, my tankbag arrived after 2 months so I'm anxious to try and see if it fits okay since the tank is a bit different than from the older models. cheers
  12. Mike, just forgot to add: the 2003 version (with and without the catalyst) has the balancing pipe at the first part of the exhausts so, in my opinion I think that the powercommander mappings for the "old" V11 might not be a good idea? ciao
  13. Mike, don't know if you already have the bike: the v11 rosso corsa comes in two types, one with a catalyst (that's the way to write it?) and there's also a version without. I'll try to upload a picture of the catalyst but anyhow it's in the x-over. I bought a 2003 rosso corsa in holland, didn't know at that time but the bunch of rosso corsa's sent to holland (anyhow the 4 I've seen) all come without a catalyst and they have the 2002 V11 ECU , the date is printed on the ecu with a sticker. I think the reason why I have a version without a catalyst is because it's not required by law here (yet). Personally :finger: the catalyst version as it only causes troubles the way BMW had before they dual plugged the new types, actually the reason why they dual-plugged the BMW's is because the poor performance due to too lean settings with the catalyst versions . I know this because I almost bought a BMW instead of the Guzzi. For what I know with the bmw's they had a powerdip when increasing throttle after cruising at a steady rpm, a lot of guys overhere all changed their eproms and the 2003 models almost all come with dual-plugging which is supposed to help. So imo the guzzi with catalyst will get the same problems as bmw had before they dual plugged their engines. I suppose you don't speak german but anyhow in germany a catalyst is required so they have the other version and I've read several posts on the german board that they all complain about a powerdip somewhere in the 3-4000 , well I don't find any powerdip in mine, only extra's I've added is Giannelli ti-oval pipes and a bit re-adjusting of the ECU settings by the dealer. In the manual of the 2003 model (V11/Lemans/rosso corsa) there are 2 wiring diagrams, the one with the catalyst has item 59 (lambda probe) and the wiring comes out of the ecu and goes to the x-over. the one without a catalyst just misses item 59 on the leectric wiring and of course the lambda probe. So, don't know the laws in the usa but if they sell the catalyst versions I think they are fitted with a newer type ecu and you cannot just replace the x-over, think that's why guzzi comes with a new ecu when you buy their pipes. Hope I did,nt spoil your day ciao from
  14. that didn't come out the way I planned, I'll try this Metric_torque_settings.xls
  15. I was coming from amsterdam last monday when I noted some oilstains on my right boot. After inspection it turned out that the right valvecover bolts were 'a bit loose ' so got the fairing of and tightened all bolts. There not steel but when I opened my toolcase I noticed my table with torques for metric thread which I got from a chief engineer from my vessel. It might come in handy for the guzzistos who mainain there own bike and have a torque wrench. The guys with the "odd system" have to convert sizes , sorry but I suppose guzzi's come metric in the US/UK as well? tried to upload it in faq but couldn't so here it is: Metric Torques: Size Size Size Torque thread hex allen moment spanner wrench Nm M 3 6 3 hand M 5 8 4 hand M 6 10 5 12 M 8 13 6 27 M 10 17 8 45 M 12 19 10 85 M 16 24 14 190 M 20 30 17 370 M 24 36 19 640 Note: settings are for hex bolts and nuts of steel grade 8,9 and treated with lub oil or locktite. hope this helps someone in the future ciao
  16. Forgot something: My bro has the same bike / colours etc (I was the first to own one ) but he mounted mistrals (oval, carbon type) If we run the bikes together you'll don't hear any difference in sound , at least we don't but it's a nice deep guzzi sound, not overdone. and performance, well he's a better driver than me so that's hard to tell. unless with all kinds of machineries. but who cares, if they catch you with 195km/hr overhere they take your licence and bike so all these extra horses are just for statistics... see u
  17. hello mikie well my answers are actually longer than the work it takes to fit giannelli's wish I had a dig.camera now although I'm old fashioned so i still use my nikon.. Simply: yes I used the moto guzzi original brackets, you just need to add 5mm space in between the moto guzzi muffler bracket and the bike's frame. This means on the top of the bracket, not where the muffler comes.... Like I said, at first I used 4 washers but that's plain ugly, now I use a s.steel hex nut size m8 which I drilled out with 8mm so it can act like a thick washer. but I'm still triyng to find a piece of thick s.steel or aluminum pipe of the right dimensions so it will look nicer. Actually you don't see anything of the nuts but I know they are there and I lean towards perfectionism if you use the giannelli brackets then you'll have to buy new footpegs for the passenger , the holes are there but the originals won't fit. (besides it's a piece of ugly plain aluminum) cheers from
  18. I read my last post about the giannelli's and I saw it's a bit confusing, note when I wrote the original brackets I meant the moto guzzi brackets, I didn't use the giannelli brackets. hope it clears stuff a bit chears , rudi
  19. mikie, I have oval Ti-gianelli's under my 2003 v11 lemans rosso corsa and I used the original brackets. That doesn't fit because the brackets should be wider so at first I used 4 SS spacers M8 per bolt and with a little muscle help it fitted nicely. But I didn't like the spacers, am still looking for a piece of aluminum thick tube with outerdiam 16 and inner 8 so I can make myself some nice spacers (you'll need 5 mm) for now I used 4 ss hex nuts m8 but drilled out the thread so theyre used as spacers. I used 4 new M8 ss bolts (L=35mm / allen type) to get enough thread in as the originals are 30mm. Now my bro has the same bike but he has mistral oval cans and they fit instantly, they also end a bit higher than mine. Obviously the giannelli's would fit perfect with their original brackets but 1: they're ugly 2: I sometimes take my wife with me so either I have the passenger pegs or have to invest in a new wife so there's the story If I ever can find a cross over I'll give you an update
  20. I know it's an issue that most probably will continue to appear in any motor forum but I'll take the risk: In short it's about oil: I own a 2003 V11 Le Mans Rosso Corsa since about 5 weeks and this is my first Moto Guzzi. better to add that I live in the Netherlands with a moderate (although humid) climate. for some stupid reason there is some confusion at my dealer about which kind of engine oil his mechanic put in at the 1000 km service. I know it's stupid but it's also quite annoing for me since it needed a bit of oil and I needed to know which oil to add. The owner of the shop told me it was Agip 20W50, his mechanic said it was Valvoline Durablend (half synthetic) 10W40 and the owners manual saysit has to be Agip 5W40. So I changed dealership and asked the two best known dealers in holland what to do , and which kind of oil they use: since this site started out dutch (prima werk jaap) I won't use any names but the biggest one uses agip 20w50 (because guzzi always said to use it) and another dealer uses 10w50 or 10w60 for a v10 / v11. My bro has the same bike, different dealer and they 've put in castrol 5w40 synthetic at his 1000 km service. two questions: 1: how much oil does your V11 consumes ? 2: what kind do you use , 5W40 / 10W40 / 20W50 or anything else?? There is an issue about the V10, when is has it's oil level just above min on the dipstick and you speed up very fast the red light will go on for a second. It's because all the oil shifts aft and the the pump will suck vacuum for a brief moment. This problem is not solved yet on a V11, any comments?? or am I the only one who drives fast cheers, rudi / holland 2003 rosso corsa
  21. Hi Guys (& Girls???) since I'm also new to these things , w.i. forums and moto guzzi's this might not go the way I want it to get out but anyhow I'll try. I rode piggy back on a lot of guzzi's owned by my bro and finally bought one a couple of weeks ago but let me introduce myself first: My name is Rudi, live in Dordrecht / the Netherlands and getting almost 41 years old, seems that most guzzistis are a bit older To pay for the bike I work as a captain in the Dutch merchant navy on a Heavy Lift vessel, which means I get to ride a bike about 5 months a year only. My previous bike was a triumph tiger 955i, really loved that bike, nothing wrong with it except my legs were a bit too short so I traded it in for a V11 Le Mans Rosso Corsa, which I fell in love with when I saw it on Intermod last year. I tried a test ride on a scura at Teo Lamers but they were not so interested in a triumph so finally got to a dealer in rotterdam. First the positive things, It really is a fantastic bike, engine much rawer than my old tiger (triple) but not as smooth and the looks are : bellissima but I already have some flaws, tank and front wheel had some slight scratches which will be replaced under warrenty but the dealer forgot to order the parts so I'm already waiting 2 weeks in vain and last week my speedometer cable broke plus neutral light just stays on. I replaced the cans with titanium giannelli's but since my dealer doesn't own a computer I'll go (today) to Teo Lamers to get it tuned and hopefully the dealer in rotterdam can solve the neutral / speedo problems. Still , I'm positive about the first 1400 km on the bike, might take a while to get used to eachother. Well this should be long enough, if somebody has an answer to a neutral light which stays on all the time let me know although the bike is new and under warranty.. cheers, rudi 2003 rosso corsa
