the myth of Laguna Seca is a bit overstated, the track is short and bumpy, the only exciting thing really is the corkscrew. Just looked at World Superbikes from Brno this weekend, Brno - that really is an exciting track, with lap times around 2 minutes and an endless line of passing points. MotoGp is going there next August 18-20, don't miss it!

    MotoGP

Kenny sure did get a scare when he got mixed up in the Pedrosa/Stoner fight and did come past him one on either side, and then Pedrosa going into the corkscrew on the rumble strip. Those guys are crazy, surely someone told them that you can't be fast on the peculiar LS before you learnt the difficulities of it, but they did seem to care at all and rode like 2 Jorge Lorenzos on X.
  3. I finally did it, I went with a group of north-swedes to the Kemora track in Finland. I have been a the way a couple of times before but something always got in the way. 45 guys, most with modern jap inline-4s, and some of them bloody fast, for three days of track time. We where devided into three groups, green, blue and red where I joined the greens = slow beginners. One of the fast guys is also an riding instructor with the swedish motorcyclist organisation (SMC) and he took the time to give us some technical tips between the sessions. Of course with a Guzzi you can't match a R1 or Fireblade on the straights, but on the last day I find that I had to let the throttle off early so I didn't run into some of those guys in the bends. No kneedragging though, my Rossopuro footpegs are about 20 cm higher up than the stock ones on an 2002 R1, so even if I use the full width of my Diablo rear tyre it is still quiet a bit down to the ground. Perhaps next time.... This was the most fun I have had on a bike since I took my licence in 1979! Only regret is that I didn't test it earlier. Only one problem, I was out for a short run this evening and tested some bends I used to find exaiting before. Now they are just bland and unchallenging. PS: only 3 crashes in 3 days, mostly material damage, only one guy did get to see the inside of a finnish ambulance and he is not too seriously damaged. Could leave to hospital the next day but won't be riding for a couple of weeks.
  4. he certainly can, 26 points behind with 7 races to go. Think it will be decided in the finale in Valencia. I plan to be at Valencia GP in person, anyone else have such plans?
  5. oops, but you should read these threads if you are going to watch a delayed broadcast. Stoner was refused to start after a hard crash on warm-up, so if you stay up to cheer for him, you can go to bed now. It was a great race otherwise.
  6. The Doctor did it again, win Sachsenring GP from 11 spot on the grid. and sports at Materazzi-shirt on the podium
  7. and where headbutts is an cruical part of the game
  8. This is why it is called football. And it isn't about strength, it's about skills. Beside we have a game in Europe where you use your hands, it's called handball. and finally headbutts are not acceptable, it will expell you from the game and leave your side one man short.
  9. yeah right, this an international forum an the debate around football hardly involves USA at all, for good reasons.
  10. wrong opponent, but anyways ... Italy dominate the end of 1st half, France the beginning of 2nd 1 - 1 was a fair result, and the Italian were untouchable in the penalty shoot out bur Antonio, La Marseillaise must be the best nation anthem of all : http://marseillaise.org/audio/marseillaise.ra
  11. now on ebay.co.uk: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/07/05/ronaldo_transferred/
  12. that was a really bad picture but if you look closely Cannavaro's arms are below the german armpits which hardly is climbing, rather I think the supposed foul was that the ball was hit by a arm. From the picture it is clear the it could not have been the arm of the defender. I maintain that the germans got a free kick in a very very good position for free. The french fell into old bad habits parts of the games with the midfield being a bit slow and too close to home leaving Henry alone and frustrated. They still managed to eliminate most Big Phil's offensive tactics and took the place in the finale. This can be really good match, but I think Italy will have some success blocking some of the french games by have Zidane under close surveillance. 2 - 0 for Italy again is my tip
  13. Now I looked several times, I don't even see how Cannavaro fouled.... Stop whining ... everybody agrees the best team won, even Ballack
  14. Alex, get a grip, Italy was clearly the better team. In fact Lippi obviously had studied Germany vs Argentina because Italy played an very clean game trying hard not to give a biased referee any chance to decide the game. The mexican ref was good but Germany is always allowed a little more slack, both du to home advantage and due to the fact that large parts of the FIFA establishment in from Germany. Not a good career move to give Germany a hard time in important matches.
  15. and I was right, marvellous game, Italy dominated the first half, Germany came back in the second. and when Klinsmann sits and writes down his list of penaly shooter Grosso and DelPiero scores twice!! Forza gli Azzurri!!
  16. of course there is politics in MotoGP when recruting there riders the manufactures looks at: - riding ability - future potiential - ability to give development input - AND market penetration the teams look for: - riding ability - sponsorship appeal - what Dorna wants the sponsors looks for - market penetration different weight in different teams but all factors are there the richest HRC/Repsol team looks for world champion material but still doesn't ignore which countries are the biggest markets for Honda sportbikes. D'Antin and Team3 need to look at sponsorship, bike suppliers and Dorna subsidaries and runs Hoffman and Ellison to cover big european markets. Suzuki is somewhere in the middle, no shot at the title, they go for maximum exposure in key markets. John Hopkins, dubbed Anglo-American, is perfect in that way. Noone who has been that long in MotoGP with so little success is still there except JH. Many riders who haven't had the best bikes/tyres/teams has still managed to get the odd podium, I looked only the MotoGP era, 2002 and forward. Carlos Checa, 7 podiums Shinya Nakano, 2 podiums Kenny Roberts, 2 podiums Colin Edwards, 6 podiums Makoto Tamada, 5 podiums (2 wins) Regarding my comments on JH's ability to ride on worn tyres, look at Vermuelen who while seldom matches Hopkins on fresh tyres often matches or undercuts JH's lap times at the 2nd half of the races. With the young guns storming into MotoGP, with Pedrosa and Stoner this year and surely madman Jorge Lorenzo next year, time should be running out for Hopkins in MotoGP, unless politics played it's part in the decision making.
  17. This is Hopkins 6th season in MotoGP, he has been around for the whole 4-stroke era and still hasn't managed a single poduim position! He is there just because USA is the most important market for Suzuki. If they wanted success on the track they would have hired someone like Carlos Checa who is a very good development driver and a race winner.
  18. it is hard too see Argentina and Brasil go, but while Argentina deserved to win as the germans had a clear advantage with the referee, Brazil almost seemed afraid of les Bleus. The old farts did it again.... and Zidane is the king of football! France vs Portugal is a 50/50 game. Italy should beat Germany unless the ref and the establishment decide otherwise England fell on a stupidity again, but neither Lamphart nor Gerrard did reach the level I expect to see in the last games. Poor Svennis who have supported and trusted Rooney and get this back.
  19. The Bridgestones has lasted long enough to give Capirossi a victoria and Nakano a podium this year. It is Hopkins that does last long enough, or rather his ambility to ride on worn tyres. He will soon be 2nd to his team mate who is still learning the tracks, Vermuelen has ridden on Donington before and suddenly he qualifies better than Hopeless Pedrosa's QP time is almost half a second better than the rest, if he does make any serious mistakes today he'll be hard to beat
  20. the world has turned upside-down compared to last week Edwards, Hayden and Rossi are the 4th row on the grid in tomorrow's race at Donington.
  21. I wonder what Ingrid (Capirossi) has to say about that?
  22. I learnt to ride on a Jawa 250 swedish army bike when I was 17. Very similar to the MZ It was really bad on-road AND off-road. Lacked a lot of power, and 40 kg too heavy. Modern enduro bikes are a true blessing The Stornello is really cool, and hard too kill too. A friend of mine had one 20 years ago and it is still on the road in Finland. God knows how many youngsters have ridden it through the years. Congratulations to Nogbad Sr and Jr.
  23. the cheapest way: choose the twisty road instead of the straight, make you move the arse and thereby prevents the pain
  24. Brazil did what was needed against Ghana, and no more, not at all. BUT the old farts from France finally woke up, it was the Zidane of old days. Marvellous!! Spain is cursed, cursed, cursed! Again they have a brilliant team not capable of winning important matches.
  25. KS: "We had three DNFs due to mechanical failure, three DNFs due to crashes." here the final table for 1989: http://www.kevinschwantz.com/title1989.htm KS was a temporary expert commentator on the stream from Catalonya on motogp.com. Made som very interesting point and seems to be a very nice bloke.
