John-Mark Arechiga, from whom I purchased my Scura ( and who made it the coolest looking Scura on the road). Know as "drknow" on this forum, was killed at Buttonwillow Speedway near Bakersfield, California. A good guy......a major bummer DECEDENT'S NAME: John Arechiga CITY OF RESIDENCE: San Diego AGE: 40 Years TYPE OF CASE: Solo Motorcycle Accident DATE OF INCIDENT: May 10, 2008 TIME: 1045 Hours LOCATION: Buttonwillow Raceway, Buttonwillow DATE OF DEATH: May 10, 2008 TIME: 1148 Hours PLACE OF DEATH: Kern Medical Center - ER INVESTIGATING AGENCY: Kern County Sheriff/Coroner Details: The decedent was a helmeted motorcycle racer who was practicing for a race. For an unknown reason the decedent lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. The decedent later expired as a result of his injuries. An autopsy is pending for cause of death. John was a popular WERA/WSMC racer in the Southern California. He was also the Bridgestone distributor. Accident occurred exiting the last "S" turns. _________________

I bought DK's Scura....he ain't kidding about cranking down those spring rates I probably weigh 40 lbs less than he and had to back off the setting about 25% or so. It was extraordinarily twitchy(no shock absorbtion) before this and now just alittle twitchy. I'll be having it revalved soon and expect it to be MOSTLY sorted....I'm still not convinced one can totally get ALL the nervousness out of V11's ...... my Ballabio (before I killed it) had to be ridden quietly, too. Love the Scura Had a great commute home yesterday (60 mi) thru some excellent techical curves (HWY 245) in the foothils near here and it performed pretty damn well

Really easily, actually. Adjusted the forks with just an L-wrench and the shock (Ohlins) by just reaching underneath turning by hand. You have Sachs shock?? Different adjustment process perhaps

+1,1,1,1,1.... Did a couple of "technique" rides this week-end in hopes of bonding with my newly gotten Scura, and I have to say, it does not like to have it's head pushed or leaned on much ( or at all) in a curve... or any time for that matter. Once I figured how to anchor my self with the outside lower thigh and then suspend the upper body with the lower back muscles it took much of the weight off the clip-ons and it got MUCH smoother and less twitcy When I first got the bike all the suspension settings were screwed down tight and, damn, I couldn't squeeze a butt cheek w/o making the bike wobble . Luckily my inaugeral run was with RacerX and some of the So-Cal Guzzi crowd and Todd backed everything off 50%.......and, WOW, what a difference. I'll play with it as I go, but, being a V11, it will probably always be a little nervous. Especially if you dont have a soft grip......FYI, I can do a Tango on my 675 in the middle of a curve w/o upsetting it BTW, I think putting a handle bar set-up like the Ballabio would be another step in calming it down a bit. My Ballabio ( R.I.P ) was much calmer than this Scura. I think that Motard type seating position and the leverage it offered does help. With all that said....... DAMN, I'm glad to have a Guzzi back in the garage . I fight the urge to only ride IT.

I used to post here a bit awhile ago. Got a new job with stricter I.T. folks and quit doing any forums for awhile. Then something bad happened..... a 50 mph get-off due to a classic downhill high-side and, though I survived, my dear Ballabio did not After the pains subsided (cracked ribs, sprained neck, two day headache) i went a different direction and replaced my Guzz with an '07 Triumph Sprint ST.....which I absolutely LOVE . But, I ...MISSED...MY...GUZZI . The triples really are sweet and even soulful in a way. But, I think, only the big Guzzi twin has that truely rorty, thumping, almost elemental feel that is so addicting and lusty So, six months without was enough. I dropped the word on RACER X and within a day or two he turned me on to a dude in San Diego ( drknow ) selling one of the most well sorted and cared for Scuras out there. BEHOLD.... . . . Bubbling paint engine case recall done, shifter spring issue resolved, Ohlins forks resprung ( also gave me a Super Sport valving upgrade kit from GP Suspension for later), and just two weeks ago had a specially lightened, steel flywheel installed. GOOD-TO-GO Damn, this thing feels good, looks good.....Hell, it's all good. Look forward to participating here again. Cheers, Dave Pott
