  2. Thinking there is a moral to this story
  3. Instructions are in the workshop manual, you need a micrometer to do it properly, buy one, they are cheap enough and handy to have.
  4. Plugs could be sooted from rich running while cold starting if its been done 2 or 3 times without a run, so don't read too much into them. How old is the fuel filter. Clean and check every contact you can find. Free/cheap/simple stuff first.
  5. Other semi-standard items are clattering clutch, gearbox oil leaks, oxidising paint and unique to the scura, DNA from this little fella
  6. On frequently accessed fixings I use copper grease and on others I use a smear of liquid gasket on the theory that once it sets its waterproof and will also prevent nuts and bolts from wandering. It has worked for 20plus years. But I could be wrong.
  7. Symptoms: Missed gears, false neutrals, inconsistant lights, strange noises and poor 1st gear selection. Diagnosis: It's a Moto Guzzi. Outlook: Incurable. Prognosis: Call it character.
  8. On my Scura I keep it wound right off, loads of bumpy roads out my way and no head shakes. I think its just jewelry.
  9. I know its a bank holiday weekend but 3-6 of May is Spinal Injuries Research something or other (not belittling it) I was reading about it in a magazine. It is an issue that should be close to our hearts as many victims are bikers. Anyway, around that time does anyone fancy some sort of meet-up, day run or overnighter and some kind of way of collecting a few shekkles for the charity? Just an Idea....... Post here. Allihies was nice...... So was laragh..... Westport ish anyone?????
  10. I'm up for it, so that should put some off . With ref to Irish Guzzisti the man to speak tois Tom Murphy aka kerryblue on the Guzzi gb forum. You probably chatted to him at Glendalough. As mentioned before mid august is when a lot of people will be away and I think a few of the guys may be planning a trip over to the Vtwin rally this year, that being the last weekend of august could put a damper on it. What about early summer?
  11. Following on from the success of the last meet, we are having another. Laragh near Glendalough Co Wicklow Sat/Sun 20/21 Oct.
  12. My cali ev did 122mph with a big screen according to my sat nav on a flat motorway, dunno what the speedo said,I was too scared to look down. My scura did 139mph in the same place speedo read about 145, and my aprilia futura does 157 and not a jot more. BUT as it has been said many times before by many people, its not about how fast it goes.
  13. whats this bit for?

  14. Hey, Dave. Do you know any good jokes?
  15. Ahh, a kindered spirit. Thats whats needed in this world, positive waves
  16. Its a late reply I know but hey. I have a Cali EV a Scura and an Aprilia Futura RST 1000. It is faster than the Guzzi's it is more comfortable than the Guzzi's it has a better tank range than the Guzzi's it is more reliable than the Guzzi's it has better wind protection than the Guzzi's and it handles better than the Guzzi's.........I ride most days and do around 15,000 miles a year. In the past 2 years the Aprilia has only clocked about 250 miles. What makes Guzzi's so good can't be put into words, its like trying to explain what something tastes like or what sex feels like. You just have to experience it for yourself.
  17. So all I need to do now is measure the thickness of the seal, the size of the slider and the internal diameter of the part of the stancheon ? stantion? stanchion? last one looks best, that the seal sets into then wander around with that piece of paper in my pocket until I meet a clever person..........and I live in tipperary!!
  18. BFG you are a mine of information. In the words of Elvis, Uh-Ithangyouverymhuch
  19. The seals are fine at the moment but according to BFG that is only a temporary situation! I tried the celluloid film trick on a friends FJR1300 the forks had the very slightest of weeps, only 8kmls. Worked in a spotlesly clean enviroment, sure enough, very gently sliding the film in and out of the seals caused them to leak like a bastid!!!! so don't believe that myth.
  20. Just to tempt providence and because I am too lazy/stupid to look it up, can anyone tell me what fork seals/oil I need to order from ohlins for my Scura and is there a more reliable seal. I notice there are some listed on ebay but are they as good as ebay brake pads!!
  21. What may I ask is the general concensus on after market pipes for the Scura. Do they make a difference to the ride. It seems to run fine, tho tappets seem a bit quiet so I will check them in the week. It is a bit snatchy on off power at lower revs but that could be me (unthinkable)but I must admit I would like a bit more noise than the eurofart that it makes now, tho I also dont want a rolling earthquake. Dont want much, do I
  22. Ah a faint stirring in the grey matter, yes you did mention the crack and the fork seals. Now the crack, is this a V11 problem or a scura problem? nobody mentioned it before I bought the bike. And I don't like this 'it hasn't happend to you yet' tone of conversation, stoppit! youre upsetting me, my new sweetheart wouldn't do these things to me. As for melting caliper and broken brake lever, a more cynical person than I would suspect you of abuse. Fork seals, did I hear rubber grease (sounds fun) reduces the risk/frequency and land those wheelies gently young skywalker. Could the crack be welded, I know its cast but there are some clever metal people out there. Other than its inability to travel for long in a southerly direction do you find the Griso to be a much better bike, the tank is a tiddler isnt it? I was in a bearing shop the other day and on the counter was a chemical weld stuff thingy, I had a glance at it out of boredom but didnt take in details. The guy behind the counter said it was new and reports were coming back that it was brilliant I think it cost about 25 yoyos. Will find out more if you want.
  23. I just do them up. not too tight, not too loose. re-check at the end. Simple. worked for 35yrs without fail.
  24. I think they all do it, at least my V11 Scura and my California EV both do. OCD and Italian bike hmm you have a rocky road ahead.
  25. Do tell Mr Belfast, what ailments have bedridden your Scura?
