  1. I just took it out. it was different, but not fixed. Seems to run perfectly then suddenly cuts out. now its backfiring more- which it did not do (as much)before. not out the pipes but back up through the intake. kickstand seems to have no effect (other than it will kill the engine if its down in gear etc. )
  2. Think it could be the ECU? its just the stock unit- anyone got a spare in a box they dont need? Express to oregon?
  3. I'll take a look at the ignition switch. I thought maybe that would be it and tried turning it on and off while riding to see if the bike would start working again... this seemed to sometimes work, but other times no effect. But also many other things "seemed" to work - its so intermittent. I can't find a pattern. Not sure I can service it on the roadside here. see what I can do. Good news is the airbnb guy has some tools and invited me to have dinner with them. cool surfer dude with a VW van... so you know hes constantly having to work ont hat thing.
  4. yes, I thought it was vapor lock. sorry trying to fix bike while also checking in here. once more going over electrical. here is the old one: its been fine since then BUT i had not tried to ride it for 8 hours straight either.
  5. I put in the omrons- and I have 1 extra omron and 1 extra of the orignal (not actually original.. but what were in there before). Swapping relays around seems to have no effect.
  6. OK! I thought this issue was fixed: I got new relays, new battery, cleaned up a lot of wiring - found a bad connection to the timing sensor- fixed. and all was well. I started a ride up the coast of California out of SF bay area, and all was good. rode up Hwy 1, very beautiful.. but a bit cold! all great. guzzi was running fine and i took my time, rode maybe 5 hours. then I got onto the freeway at Legget, and then the troubles started: Same as it had done once before: Suddenly loses a power for a second, then does again.. gets worse and worse until it totally cuts out and I roll to a stop. Then it sometimes comes back and I can ride a while, and sometimes not. Sometimes it will "surge" rawww--- rawww---rawwww when i try to give it gas. it will also backfire sometimes. I limped into Eureka California- got an aribnb... anyone have any ideas? anyone in Eureka with some emergency parts? thanks josh
  7. more info: not sure the maker of this rack, but the GIVI "universal" mounting brackets don't align with it. It's not a problem as I have no issue drilling a bit of steel and making my own brackets. But just adding to the knowledge base. Its gonna be great, the top case is gonna fit fine and I'll be able to do some light touring on a 2000 v11 sport. gonna be great for my back! but I will be having a hell of a good time. -j
  8. I recently got some Omrons from Verical https://www.verical.com/ the onlinecomponents order I placed never arrived- not sure it was their fault but they did not offer a refund or replacement- saying it was too late when I told them the package did not arrive. I was a bit late checking, but I'd been patiently waiting.. or so I thought. Verical showed up quick and seem to work!
  9. I WILL say, in case someone comes across this, that some posts about later models may say : you only have to remove 6 screws to remove the rear bodywork is incorrect for earlier models (at least my 2000). For this model there is a 7th screw in the center of the plastic pan guard- it goes up through and holds the tool bag compartment in place as well. There also 2 more screws inside/under the rear guard flap that you may want to remove unless you are able to remove it all at once. for me this was too hard so I separated the parts and all told it was 11 screws to get it all to the point I needed without fear of breaking something. . Not gonna kill you to do 11 screws, but its certainly not 6, at least for the 2000 model.
  10. Arrive and installed! Thank you for the picture and including all the hardware (including those spacers as they were necessary) - not sure I could have figured it out without the pic~
  11. nice deal! Mine from the same year has 43k+ miles so that is basically a freshly broken in steed!
  12. Hey, I'll take it. save some $$ over the Hepco that is for sure. I sometimes commute/and want to go on day trips and such and backpacks get annoying. looks like we have sister bikes-
  13. interesting. Its confusing - mine is the red frame: So it looks like that hepco one would work as it says "from 2001" in the description. I read that to mean "2001 and later" but they seem to mean 2001 itself. which would then include 1999,2000. but seems like @footgoose has a nice option! I'll reply over there. nice bike.. very much like mine but yours is a bit cleaner!
  14. that one says from 2001. mine is 2000...
  15. I do find it interesting that Texas has more regs and regulations (and fees though $7 is pretty fair) than California! Here the test is a bit tough- for the larger bikes for sure. I did mine on a kawk 750 vulcan, not the largest bike but also not super maneuverable. a cb350 would have been a breeze. First time I failed the circle test, basically two concentric circles and you have to ride between the lines twice one way, out to figure eight and rwide twice around the opposite way. Put your foot down you fail. touch the side lines, you fail. I touched a side line. But the second time I took the test they were pretty nice and saw where I had failed and just had me do that first. after that one.. the rest were a breeze. Weave between cones, brake, r... i couple other ones but nothing difficult. But after that you have the endorsement and its good forever and there are no bike inspections (I think there might be for bikes registering from other states).
  16. I can't seem to find many options for racks in the pre-01 models. I suspect this is covered but threads with some info are all 15 years old at this point. anyone know anything available now? At least something I can attach a top case to. any leads appreciated
  17. like many here I am not a young person at this point- but I still can stan a proper bop. heh. most kpop is pretty terrible but Mamamoo are actually amazing singers- arguably the best female vocal group in the world right now- if you listen further you will see even if its not your style. that song is not super representative as is a bit of parody of themselves as they complain about not being able to go 'drink like a fish' and hang out as 20 somethings going nuts shut in during the pandemic.
  18. Yep that one! turns out its important!
  19. heh. right side under the tank maybe 3/4 the way toward the front, heading toward the ignition coils (but I am not sure it gets to them or just is that direction): large connector with a wire clip that must be compressed for it to be disconnected but mine was not properly seated. Its NOT super easy to get seated, took me a bit to make sure it was secure. sorry I have no name for it. I was just checking every connector I could find and not paying much attention to function.
  20. the black beauty lives! I found the faulty connector! Thinking maybe head south down to Monterey or something.. never really go down that way.
  21. I spent about 10 minutes looking at various threads about batteries- then just went to the local and got the stock Yuasa as well. battery tech has improved in 20 years, but.. if it works it works.
  22. the ZOMBIE lives! Both the thread and my bike. I was having no starting issues- very similar - even with symptoms of previously having running issues from time to time. No I was getting no spark. first step: got a new battery because... so often its the battery and mine was barely holding charge anyway. new plugs too, because.. why not. second step: relays.. they are omron so swapped them about just to see. third step (and should have been the first) check this forum and be reminded to just 'do the work' and follow the wiring harness around cleaning and checking until I find it. Sure enough, right under the tank a connector had jostled loose. One with one of the wirepush locks on it-> It may just never have seated properly since last time it was removed and took years to finally move enough to simply stop working. Cleaned, plugged in properly.. bike fired instantly to life. And in true lazy man fashion I immediately stopped cleaning the rest of the connectors and said "problem solved! no need to check anything else!" true story. living on the edge!
  23. nice. i admit I tried to fire up the v11 after being sorta - non mobile during the pandemic and she was not having it. Ordered a new battery but I think it may be fuel related...see how it goes. its been a year since I took her out and she needs some attention. but I am also in oakland if at some point you want to do a ride
