  1. Thanks for that tip; I've been meaning to try some experimentation w/ the Duplicolor mock anodize paint myself. Sorry your powder coating shop let you down. I did find one more tip that might help. The automotive paint stores have spray cans of very high quality spray satin that are of a far better grade than the stuff one gets from a hardware store or hobby shop. These products give a very consistent finish and don't get splotchy like the more hobby and craft materials, also works well over decals to give the finished job a factory look. Rich

  3. Well as I said I would I'm giving the forum an up date on my power coating on the "redish" swing arm brackets. The company I tried will remain nameless the color turned out to be damn close but their prep work was not really up to snuff. There fore the job looks like s#*t. The only real problem with the color was that it tended toward too shinny but the lack of prep caused the coating to bubble "not good"> I have been playing with Dulicolor imitation anodizing and I'm getting pretty close. The trick is to not use their silver under coat but try a automotive very light gold (Toyota Camry) as an under coat and use a satin clear coat as a final finish. If I get a formula that really works I will pass it along, Rich
  4. Hi everyone, When I first started working on my V11 Nudie I asked the list about the anodizing for the red pork chops and was told it was paint and hard to match, Since then I have been working on getting a match for this hard to find color. I had been asked by some on the list to get back if I found a solution. I think I can say that I have indeed found someone that can help with this, I have been shopping a bracket to different metal finishers and paint shops in the SF Bay Area. There is a little shop in Oakland that thinks he can match the look using a two stage powder coating system. Today he showed me a sample and it's damn close. I can't say that if you had a factory bit and one he had done; side by side it would be a perfect match but it would sure be close. Price wise they seem to be very reasonable. As a test of his workmanship they are doing a set of valve covers and the alternator cover. I gave him the three pieces dirty, painted and he will return them to me finished for $70.00, Having had all kinds of stuff powder coated in the past I know that small amounts are usually quite expensive so I feel that his quote is more than fair. I'm not giving the company name out until I see what sort of job they do. I get the parts back on Saturday and will let you all know how it turns out. Then I will know if I can recommend these folks with a degree of comfort. Rich

    Torque

Thanks guys. My Moto Guzzi Manual came today. Truth be told your help was more far more helpful. I'm not sure where this book came from, (and I've been using shop manuals for fifty years) but this is by far the worst one I've ever used. I am grateful for your help as it has allowed me to start reassembling the bike. Thanks again. Rich

    Torque

Hello All, I am slowly getting my new to me '04 V11 nudie in running order. My work shop manual hasn't arrived as of yet and I'd like to put my front end back together. Could someone please give me the torque specs. for the triple clamps, axle, pinch bolts etc. for this bike. I realize that the fasteners have specs based on size I just want to make sure that there isn't something I'm missing in regards to trees or fork tubes before I go and screw something up. Thanks if you can help. Rich

    V11 Plastic

Looking for V11 Naked L/R side covers any color
  8. Hello Everyone, Just took possession of my first Moto Guzzi and have searching the net for information on my new to me V11 Naked. I live in Northern Calif a place called Petaluma out among the dairy cows. I'm retired and spend my time building cafe racers and when time allows Rally riding with the Iron Butt assoc. or MERA on either a BuMW or a Honda ST1300 the V11 was going to be a project bike for a friend of mine but I sort of fell for it so now I'll find another MG for him and keep this one. Stingy bastard that I am. I do have a question does anyone know where I might find the paint codes for Moto Guzzi? My 2004 V11 is the burgundy color one and I can find no information on even what it's proper Moto Guzzi name is much less a paint code. I am also wondering where one might find the translucent red that the valve covers and pork chops are painted. Those I thought were anodized but one fellow corrected me on this point. Now I find that this paint is also hard to find. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful. I will try to contribute to the site anyway I can, I spend a goodly number of days on the road looking for cafe racer bits (at this point usually Bloor and pre-Bloor Triumphs) but I do run across MG's in all states of repair. I will be sure to post any finds to the list for other members to follow up on; as my V11 project is quickly becoming a labor of love. Thanks for any help. Rich
