I got the Le Mans back after full maintenance, including TPS setup, remapping of the ECU.

The engine is pinging when I do a hard throttle opening, even above 4000 rpm on 5th.

The only time I got the engine to ping, was when I was comparing octane contents. I thought the pinging was only happening with regular gas.

If I drive like I usually do, there is never any pinging, because I never do any kind of hard acceleration.

I am almost certain the pinging existed before the TPS adjustment and remapping, with premium gas.

The Quota does not ping at all.

Anyone else has their V11 engine pinging under hard solicitation?

I can say once summer is here, and the motor has its normal running heat in it, both of my LeMans (02 stock/03 exhaust mods) ping slightly under hard accel. Primarily at hard acceleration when speeds are above 60-70 mph.  My 2016 Norge also does this during summer heat, and same hard accel, but this ECU has been reflashed by GuzziTech.  I run alcohol free 93 octane in all my Guzzis to minimize.

    Thanks for sharing!

I am going to go with Casa di Moto which seems to have a good reputation. Hopefully, USPS is not going to lose the package.

The UPS and FedEx prices are not making any sense...

No problem.  Think I paid Buzz at Seattle $586, not cheap, and especially since they were junk/trash when I got them back the 2nd time.  I donated both gages to some guy in Canada for "an experiment" he wanted to try, rather than throw them in trash.  I bought new ones (ODO in KPH) from Stein Dinse (for fraction of repair bill, roughly 140 each)

  3. Word to the wise:  I would not use Buzz at Seattle Speedo. I sent him two '03. LM gauges, about 4 years ago.  He took forever to get them back.  They exhibited very poor workmanship once I got them back, cracked, dirty (inside!), didn't work.  I complained, he said send them back and he would correct.  He didn't, worse the 2nd time.  Its the only time I have ever felt like I got taken for ($$$) dealing with people/businesses on the internet.  Read his one star Google reviews, I wasn't the only one.

That's a beautiful bike. Tom has the original poster ever tried to contact you? Certainly better looking then picture he posted.

Yeah, we've PM'd a few times over the year or so.   I am asking $7500 which is more in range of the Mandello/Ohlin equipped bikes.  I bought this bike 2 years ago from a "collector" in Wisconsin, had it shipped to VA.  Had 2400ish miles.  I've run about 3k more then stopped riding. Detailed, put fresh tires on, covered and put away for a bit.   Didn't want to keep running up miles, esp. since I have a red '03 to take care of the V11 fix.

It's essentially flawless with a couple of very minor exceptions.  Engine paint (LOL) is like factory and I treat it as such to protect.  No scrubbing, no blasting, no chemicals.  Only change I did make upon ownership was swap in the proper Omron relays (Thanks docc!)  Does have the original MG factory rear rack.  Runs like a well oiled sewing machine.  Just waiting for a serious buyer who wants to deal a bit.

What kind of quality bike can you buy nowadays for 7K?  Not much for sure.

Seriously, other than Relays, Battery, and Tune-up: the three most neglected areas on V11:

    > Rear drive: far right side needle cage.

    > Sidestand fasteners, both, but especially the high torque large bolt.

    > Charging system failure (ungrounded regulator, melting 30 amp fuse, broken stator wires).

Putting "Rear drive: far right side needle cage.: on my list now.  Thanks docc for the reminder. :luigi:

I just did brake fluid flush on my '02 clutch/brakes.  The '03 is now saying "Hey, what about me!"

  6. Oh mate, I've still got mine, almost factory perfect as I described before.  Only non-factory mod is the MPH bar risers as described in https://mphcycles.com/handle-bar-risers/

You won't find another one that looks any better and I venture to say it would be worth the trip to Virginia to see in person.  New tires installed and the elusive factory rear rack included as shown in 1st three  pics of google photo link.

docc, I always love your "out of the box" thought train, good on a routine basis for much levity :D.  Part of the reason why I lurk in the V11LM shadows so much :mg:

  8. No experience with Stelvio or Griso.  I do have a 2016 Norge (last year they made).  Have mod'd fueling (GTM reflash), suspension (Matris fork upgrade, Ohlin rear shock), exhaust (Y pipe and Mistral muff), etc.  The fueling upgrade makes it much smoother ride. My buddy who is also a long term MG owner/rider has ridden my Norge and says it is the smoothest, best handling MG he's ever ridden.  (He owns 5 MGs, including one V11, but no CARC bikes).

  9. Installed a "indestructible" Scud shift spring, bearing and Lucky Phil Extender yesterday in friends '02 V11 Lemans (with 70K miles on it).  He was very excited for the improvements and once the case sealant sets up, will fill/adjust and test run.  I told him he is now officially a member of the very exclusive V11 "not-so-secret" mod club now.

Once again, continuing THANKS! to all for the detailed photos, discussion and collaboration in upgrading another iconic :mg: machine.  :bike:

(This was the 2nd tranny I have done the spring/bearing on and it all came back to me very quickly. I have one extender and 2 spare springs left, which are still pending install on my virgin champagne '02 LeMans. But I can say that I do feel "qualified" now with the improvement process).

    Hey, @Tom in Virginia,

The Convertibars website has installation instructions for their v11 risers but  their sales page doesn't list them so I guess if I want a pair it might require further inquiry.

That setup was on my'03 when I bought it 11 years ago.  PO had no accompanying paperwork so not sure of manufacturer.  No markings that I have seen either.  I ride with bars all way up to save my back, makes it good for longer distances and like you said doesn't affect the OEM fork length.

Anyway, let me know if might be in interested in riding for all or part with this Old Flatulent.  If so, we can work the eaches after Epiphany.

    Bill

P.S.  I know Hampton isn't next door to the top of the Old Dominion, but let me know if you might have any interest in coming up for the Moto Grappa Tech Days MMXXIII in February.  For more, see ...

    Yes, I sure will Bill.

Being 10 hours from the Kentucky Spring Spine location, I may likely trailer and stay at campground there nearby.  That is, only if I get a free pass from the boss.  She is planning a trip to Bahamas with her brother/sister sometime in May and if that occurs during that weekend I will be on triple-dog duty.  Anyway, it's a ways out and I will stay in touch regardless.

And yes, I would enjoy hanging with the guys at your February retreat if other duties/commitments don't prevent.  I'll look more at your link and get back to you for sure.  I've been admiring that gathering for quite a few years now.

The OEM hose ain't suitable for anything , but it has the correct angles ! It is rubber (I think) only w/no cloth woven into it . This stuff deteriorates the moment it is removed from the plastic bag it comes in . i thught mine was in PERFECT shape until I went to look at how to R&R it to give advice to a member on this site . Yuck , it was junk .

Harper's : mmmmm. good luck . MG cycle : I use them since Joe Eish is NLA .

That's a notable name you don't hear mentioned often (Joe Eish).  A legend in MG motorcycle parts for sure.  Have heard much of that inventory is still just sitting there.

I gave up trying to link to Google Photos. Seems only half can see them from my files, so I upload them to imgbb.com and link from there.

I'm going to get an "OJT" training session from my son at Xmas so that I can post photos the proper way and avoid further churn for docc and other MAC/Apple users.  (Forgive my un-adaptability, I'm from the "old" generation and still file paperwork in a steel file cabinet!)

  14. Thanks for input.  Cleaned both right away, seems to have taken care of the worst of it.  Boots were almost new, my hope is riding time will solve most of the residual gasoline smell issues on right boot.  Leather pants were immediately cleaned but are due for a good mink oil treatment anyways.

Here's a pic of repair parts, available from MG Cycle (for future reference/if anyone needs updated fittings for '03 V11 models and later):

     https://photos.app.goo.gl/HXSPGXpii8d1679y9

Grand total was $81.33 delivered to door.

Part # 01106692 fuel pump connector (white elbow)

Part # MG410 Fuel pump elbow hose connection spigot for internal fuel pump models

(Sorry Docc for always using a google link for photos.  Know that's extra work for you in everyone of my photo posts)
