  1. I've think I have a knob in good shape. I just have to put my hands on it. I sent the old odo to a guy in Canada for some R&D he was gonna do on his ITI gage. My odo/speedo is now a (duR) from TLM so no use for it.
  2. yeah the tranny looks good, but the engine case finish would def start to flake if washed with a hose blast. I'm gonna go real easy on it.
  3. So received the bike, perfect condition (other than the motor case finish which looks very clean but wrinkled finish with occasional coating bubbles). A few days ago, after the rain cleared and roads dried, I did a short 20 mile local "trial run" to check it out for any standout gremlins. Noted that the rear suspension is way too stiff for me on compression, not unexpected. It gives me a really good wack out back on any sharp or sudden bump. Checked it against my '03 LM and it is set the same. Backed off the compression adjustment just a bit, thinking that the spring is stiffer since it is almost new (2455 miles). Transmission shifts properly, smooth and tight. Have the indestructible Chuck/SCUD spring to install but will wait until this winter (or until it breaks lol). The tachometer, dash lights, headlight and brake light went dead about 15 miles into the test run. Put the bike thru about 8 stop/short cool down/start cycles en-route. Got home and started running thru all the V11 forum threads for "tach quit", "headlight out", "dash lights out". Checked the (new) battery connections (nice and tight). Gleaned thru some of the troubleshooting tips offered in the threads. Checked bottom of relay box for loose wiring, swapped relays one at a time and then all with good relays, no change. Removed/inspected the fuses, swapped a few like fuses, no change. Bike was started and stopped probably 10 times during this with no issues in starting or running. Plugged battery into trickle charger and went to bed. This morning bike started with no repeat of "loss of" condition described above. Another 20 miles on test run #2 with no issues noted. Really got me scratching my head, I'm gonna keep putting a few more local trips on it to see it the condition reoccurs. In the back of my head I hope I am not looking at possibly replacing an intermittent voltage regulator already.
  4. Anyone know offhand if the TPS holddown screws have LocTite applied?. The installed Torx holddown screw heads have yellow paint or Glyptal on them. I am replacing the TORX screws with the SS socket head capscrews per docc's guidance in Decent Tuneup. Thanks in advance.
  5. Post retirement motorcycle mania has left my poor girl (1990 Toyota Supra Turbo) sitting under bike covers and surrounded by 2 wheel adversaries.
  6. I have been discussing with docc about conducting another V11 tuning session during Spine Raid 2020. I have all the cables for connection, a new to me (non-electrical bloke) Fluke 117 multi meter, a spare TPS, a bunch of spare stainless steel hex head cap screws to replace the TORX screws in TPS and finally the TWIN-MAXX cylinder balancing tool. However, I am short on both computer knowledge/ability and a computer to do the guzzidiag part of the decent tuneup. Wondering if anyone technically (computer) inclined could bring along a computer device with guzzidiag loaded to use in a tune up session? I will surely be happy to compensate anyone for the trouble. If not,I will bring along my small desktop computer (Windows10) that I loaded guzzidiag on in hopes someone can guide me thru it.
  7. Charlie Mullendore (MG restorer/Antietam Classic Cycle) has given Joel Levine good marks for the odo/tachs he has sent to him. For my ITI odo, I gave up and scrapped it. Ordered a "new" kph ODO (manufacturer is duR) from TLM. Cost was $158 plus postage (about a year ago) but it works excellent. I put some very tiny thin strips of red electrical tape to designate 40/50/60/70 mph until my old mind is able to make the conversion without too much thinking.
  8. Seattle Speedo "says" he can rehab ITIs. I sent him mine, duped me for about $580. Don't send to him, he has apparently scammed quite a few folks. One guy from California sent him about 6 rare Porsche gauges. Sadly he never saw them again. (Moderators: delete if this is inappropriate - Tom).
  9. I'm game for two shift extension arms, one for each of the V11's. 3 down, seven to go!
  10. Since this one is a 2002, I am just a wee bit worried about the engine case paint spalling off. I plan to use either one or the other of these to protect/preserve the paint/coating. I use the Moto Protect on my KTM 250 (plastic, aluminum and painted surfaces) with good success. I have also used the HD Engine Brightener on my 2007 Street Glide (before I traded it) and have sprayed the engine cases/valve covers/trans. of my '03 Lemans with excellent results. Both are silicone in nature, but the HD product is quite a bit heavier and therefore stays intact longer. But I must caution, either of these must not be used on seats, grips, pegs, TIRES! and all brake surfaces (pads/rotors/calipers) should be covered before you try to spray it on. Of course, the HD product comes with a HD price LOL. Any feedback or experience on engine /trans case preservation on 2002 LeMans welcome.
  11. So excuse my ignorance, or rather laziness in sorting thru a lot of threads to determine, but what year(s) of V11 does this fit?
  12. You guessed it, a little bit of both. Red Line Marinara seasoned with Italian Gootsie blood.
  13. I'm in. Looking forward to meeting all you characters.
  14. I expect the prices will be rather stimulating for those without deep, deep pockets. Just my guess. After all, motorbikes are a pure luxury item. However, I never looked at them that way, they are necessary for my existence
  15. Oh, by the way, based on RTV job on the selector box cover, I could safely say this "CHUCK/SCUD spring" is at least the 3rd spring to go into this bike, to include original. I imagine the guy I bought it from had problems around 18,000 miles and had to pay the shop to fix. Once that was done (paying Northern VA shop prices) he was likely motivated to deal on his asking price. Just my guess. I will forever love this bike, it is the most fun to ride of all the bikes I had. I'd be willing to put another 10 springs in it if I had to, but that will be highly unlikely with the perfection that you guys have engineered/manufactured here.
  16. Broke side cover down, this is what I found. Chuck and Scudd's spring installed. Everything checks out, hand worked the edge where the spring contacted selector so its rounded edge. Really excited to get her back on the road, been missing this bike since it went down. Boss on selector checked out at 14.91 mm. Guess the 2002 with 2500 miles will get same treatment when it arrives.
  17. If I give up the tickets for Barber in Oct due to this virus, I may show in Tenn. because I am definitely bored to death and over this upper 90's heat!
  18. Working with a freind to close deal on an almost "new" 2002 V11 LeMans. This will join my 2003 V11 (currently in garage with broken pawl return spring) and is my 4th MG. As I understand it was a part of collector's portfolio that was auctioned off, bought by a dealer and resold. Had 3 miles on it when purchased, current owner has about 2500 miles on odo now. It is all stock except for the handle bar risers and rear rack. Excited, waiting for DMV to get title squared away, send check to owner and have shipper to pick up in next few weeks. It is essentially in new condition. (Gonna have to hide this one from the wife out in the back garage as she already put the subtle kibosh on any more motorbikes) Despite being an endless tinker/modifier, I plan to keep this one just as she is, stock.
  19. ODO is km now but converting prior miles I come up with total of 25,906 miles. Very likely the 2nd pawl spring but have no way of knowing for sure.
  20. Just broke my shift selector spring pulling into the driveway after scorching about 100 plus miles of winding mountain back roads. Life is good! Money and tip on the way SCUD for 2 pawl springs please.
  21. Interesting, not available in the US. They want to squeeze us for every penny they can. Sorry to hear your V11 is SORN but at least there's a bright side in the pocketbook. Hope you can return to the road as soon as this virus is past.
  22. OK, I won't. Maybe just overly optimistic... Any suggestions or advice?
  23. After changing exhaust gaskets I used these (Docc) guidelines to retune my 03 V11. Old exhaust gasket leaks (at the front crossover) definitely contributed to my 3-4K rpm cough. After replacement it was better but had returned albeit a weaker "spit". After removing and cleaning the air bleed screws (very sooty) and rebalancing the throttle bodies and then a test run of 60km this morning .... at long last problem resolved. All in all I found it to be an amazingly simple fix. The bike has never run better (since I purchased 7 years ago). All smiles here (and I saved some bank $$$). Thanks to Docc and the rest of the contributing forum members! Happy miles to all
