Hello all. Today among other things I finally installed a handle bar mounted oil pressure gauge. I'd designed, 3D printed and installed the mounting hardware a while ago but didn't get around to plumbing it in until now. The pressure at idle is just above 60 psi. Oil was cold, didn't really let it warm up much further than this, was just testing it out. Does that seem correct? I'll take her out for a spin and see what it says when she's at running temp. I have fresh Amsoil 20w50 in there.

Installed the "Deep V" sump:
Used all Ti fasteners. Total weight savings is approx. 7.75 pounds (3.5 kg). Deleted the oil return line and put a one way flapper valve on the vent line.
Now that my front subframe is exposed, it quite obviously needs some loving!

What exactly did you order?
The Chuck / docc 30 amp circuit breaker. And the new motogadget m-unit.

Just ordered one, along with an m-unit blue. Still lovely weather up here, as soon as things turn ugly, the Winter of Re-Wiring shall begin. Very much looking forward to it actually!

Correct, RAM in South Carolina is not the same RAM, in Italy, that makes parts for Italian motorcycles.
Pete, I have a new single plate from RAM, I can measure the thickness of the friction plate for you.

Can't we find someone to machine new hubs? ahemm..*cough*chuck*cough*.....
Maybe Joe Caruso can be persuaded.

Do you still have all the parts from your original single plate clutch, that was removed? Most importantly, do you still have the input hub?
Looks like this:
the one on the right is the one you hopefully still have (ignore the bigger one on the left):
If you still have this hub, then you can use the "5 speed" single plate RAM clutch.

I rode the new BMW s1000rr with the full M Power package a couple weeks ago with California Superbike School. I recommend it if you ever get the opportunity to do it.

Did a little search, here is a writeup on pipeburn where they are quoted as saying the electrical system including the efi weighs "over 25 pounds", again I'm sure they are including stuff like switchgear and maybe even the clocks:

If you are so outraged maybe you should take it up with them. And there is nothing wrong with seeing a therapist! I encourage if it will help you chill the f u c k out a little

Funny how you feel like that was directed at you! Maybe time to go visit the therapist.

Curious myself to know the real weight of the entire pile of electrical crap, as compared to what the Moto Studio guys were touting... Wouldn't be entirely surprised if they were over estimating it. I'm definitely getting rid of the stock general electrical harness this winter and replacing with new wiring and an m-unit. Still on the fence about deleting the EFI, mainly hesitating due to the cost. I guess I could always do that in a second step...

Here's the whole assembly
The whole fuel injection assembly, correct? Not seeing a fuel pump in that hideous pile... This doesn't appear to also include the general electrical system harness (charging and lights etc) unless I'm missing something.

Nothing preposterous about 41mm Keihin FCR flat slides... well other than the price of course lol
Dell’Orto PHM40 are the other choice, for the more budget minded.

I should probably clarify the origin of the 25 pounds claim and explain what it comprises, for those interested in this as well as for those who are in it simply because they enjoy getting into arguments on the internet
The guys at Moto Studio are the ones who told me that that the stock wiring weighs in at around 25 pounds. They have built eight full ground up custom Guzzi V11 bikes of their own, not counting customer bikes. They know what the @#!#$# they are talking about. That said, in my comment above, I am sorry if I implied that the EFI system alone weighs 25 pounds. This thread is about improving and/or replacing the -entire- wiring harness. The 25 pounds number is for the whole stock wiring system, and I imagine they also included the handlebar switch gear in that number. Maybe even turn signals and tail light? So anyway, at least the relay blocks, fuses, many many yards of wire and plastic harness tubing, weatherpack connectors, sensors, switchgear, ignition switch, the ECU , throttle bodies, injectors, throttle body rail and linkage with the TPS and fast idle warts, fuel pump etc...
I imagine all of that does indeed add up to 25 pounds pretty quickly. That isn't what the net weight loss would be of course, since after removing all that you'd have to add back a set of carbs, an electronic ignition, an M-Unit, new switchgear. All of that stuff would be significantly less though. Both in weight and in clutter. Is it something that everyone with a V11 should do? Absolutely not! No one ever said so. But then, go through the forum and count how many posts there are on electrical problems with these bikes. Chuck just went through an ordeal with his. Then come back to me and tell me it wouldn't be worth it to rewire the bike from scratch. Hell, keep the EFI. The point is to make a simpler, more reliable electrical system.
So again, my apologies for not being clear in my previous comments, I hope this makes sense. And for those who are in it just for the joys of getting into internet pissing matches, well, I can't help there. That's between them and their therapists and/or liquor cabinets.

That's because it is. Carb conversions are generally done by two types, first group, the strip it down to the bare bones and bugger the common sense real world day to day useable bike and the second group that's incapable for one reason or another of getting their head around even the basics of a std EFI system.
The bonus is of course you get to spend around $700US to do the carb conversion when its all said and done to save a reputed 25LBS. Dont quite know where that figure comes from but there you go.
Ciao
you can be such a ninny sometimes.
Edited to add: I do love you though. (and it's much much much more expensive than $700)

I would watch that vent filter for enough oily mess to drip.
My vent filter is still squeaky clean after a few years now. Maybe my bike isn't a squirter? When I do the Deep V sump mod, I intend to replace the stock oil return line with a clear PTFE hose, partly because I'm curious to see just how much oil really does come back through the breather. That said, when I removed the air box there was a good amount of oil pooled up in it. But my feeling is that the previous owners never cleaned it out in their 11 years of ownership...

am planning on a pair of OEM OZ MGS-01 wheels
where ya find those? I went with Marvic Piumas when I couldn't find them anywhere. Contacted Bruno Saturno to see if he could scrounge them up for me but all he had available were his Kineo spoked wheels. Which are also very nice, but I prefer the look of mags on our bikes vs. spokes.

torque on these bolts wont be that much
10 Nm total with a little blue loctite is all you need, tighten them in progressive amounts equally in a more or less star pattern across the cover.

There is a little gasket between the switch and the case where it screws in. Are there any additional washers or spacers in there too? If so, maybe remove them?

Maybe it's just this "mini heatwave" we are experiencing right now, but I am actually looking forward to this winter when I'll finally be tearing out the wiring harness and installing the m-unit and forever saying goodbye, or rather auf wiedersehen, to all the relays and fuses...

additionally you can change ignition values
This is something I'm very interested in. I have twin plugged heads on my bike, but haven't set it up yet. Biggest hurdle for me going forward with this is the prospect of having to change the ignition curve. I'm dreading having to manually edit the map. I have a table that was provided to me by a gentleman on this forum who went by the name "Motoguzznix". I will delve into this over the winter. If all else fails, I'll ditch the 15M ECU (which I consider to be the boil on Sophia Lauren's ass) and install a set Keihin flat slides and an ignition module from Eletronik-Sachse and be free of the whole mess that is this Magneti Marelli injection system.

Oil pressure at idle?

Thanks Pete! And now I just remembered I owe you some RAM clutch friction plate measurements... I'm so sorry, I spaced it out. Will get you those by tomorrow, promised. 🙏
