    Rear Rack

Hi All, has anyone in or near the UK got a rear rack up for grabs? Stew
  5. scud, re the reaction rod: I've got a rossopuro unit fitted on mine. Two rose (heim) joints and a rod and two locknutz is all it is. I might be wrong but if the bushings for the original unit are near impossible to source, two joints and a tapped rod shouldn't be too hard to sort?
  6. Temporarily fitted a 60mm cap-head screw where the (snapped) sidestand foot'uk used to be. It works. The occasional dry-ish moment over the last few days has allowed me to spank her about town. Which is nice.
  7. It really does. is the plate hanging off the other side? If so, that'd be a 2 into 1? Love all that dark with just a splash of red chop + ht lead.
  8. Although today I did trace one noise.... My side-stand foot-lever has broken at one mount and was tinkling merrily on downhill over-run...
  9. Are you thinking it's valve clatter then? Nothing untoward happening? I get the rattle too- opening it up at speed whilst in a higher gear and at lower revs. I had assumed it was pinking and was trying to avoid it when possible.... Are we in any consensus on this? I find the rattle to be quite an unsettling noise.
  10. The steering head ones are 30205-A bearings. Two of. Is there a dedicated thread to post to?
  11. I've just read that Ducati's new 'mid range' sportsbike has 157bhp, 80ftlbs and weights 175 kilos...
  12. I have the workshop stand from gutsibits, which is a great, sturdy design and I've used it loads. Obviously the porkchop problem remains. Plus you're in NZ...... The basic design is mostly simple square section and flat bar welded up- maybe not a deal of effort for a capable welder/metalworker? These bikes are pretty heavy- i wouldn't want to be struggling hoisting it about.
  13. Believe me the clamping force of the mount bolts is way in excess of the weight of the bike. Not even worth considering. Ciao Am I right in thinking that's fourteen bolts torqued to 12nm? How's the total calculated?
  14. Yeah, I wondered... those poor gaskets! You'd want it hanging off the frame surely?
  15. 80 buckaroos? Mustn't grumble eh?
  16. I was riding with my damper backed right off ever since I purchased the machine- engaging it even a wee bit felt like steering in treacle so I left it off. Then I replaced the head bearings and now she does benefit from a couple of turns on the damper. Mainly at low speeds when I'm riding tired/badly and putting too much weight through the 'bars. The lower bearing was proper knackered- orange and skanky. That's on a 25,000 mile machine. Incidentally, I dropped the forks about 20mm to see what would happen- whoa! That's some quick steering! Too quick for me- I've settled at 12mm which feels lovely.
  17. Aye, well it's just the bare bones of an idea. The metal pieces are likely to need drilling for pins to prevent slippage. I'd double up 18mm pieces of good, hardwood ply each side. 36mm should hold a bike ok. The lever left in place would act as a stop. Which could be a 'U' shape, engaging at both sides and going around the rear wheel. Sweet dreams
  18. Getting a nozzle on that front nipple is like winning the lottery.....
  19. Here ya go! Each wooden plate requires only three slots and two holes to be routed into it. The flat-bars are set to double up as a leverage point. The top-mounts will need some further thought: Perhaps a recess for sockets? Or would some metal tubing work? I can't see this taking much more than half a day to construct- less if you're handy and have a jigsaw & router. I'd say it'd get the bike up in less than 5 mins too. You can use a jack to raise the front if required.
  20. My local shop has the Putoline 20w40 V-twin semi oil. At £27 for 4 litres it seems good value and I assume it's suitable...
  21. Hmmm.... How about: 2 x (25-36mm thickness) teardrop shaped 'sides'. Holes at suitable points to enable sides to be fixed and rotate in unison (flat- or round-bar slid thru?). (Prob need fixing somehow for rigidity). Holes at 'pointy' ends to accept chop mounts. Or permanently attached sockets for chop nut? More holes to accept threaded bar for clamping all together with wingnuts. Attachments at round ends to accept extension bars for lifting leverage. I could sketch this up if my explanation is lacking?
  22. Well, a big one. Big one before The Big One.
  23. I think it was on this forum that someone mentioned flicking the ignition on/off a couple of times to engage the fuel pump twice for added benefit?? Dunno... I always use the fast idle from cold and let her jiggle at about 2k for half a minute or so to wake her up. Also, mine was starting very grumpily at first till I realised the throttle twist I was giving her on start-up was counter productive. Took me a good month or two to get to know her! Now we're in love. Today I attempt to replace the head races so I expect possible strain on our relationship.
