I finally got a decent ride out of the old girl today! I was putting a speedbleeder in the clutch piston, and after removing the swingarm I found the bearings were seized solid 😠. Like totally solid. The pivot nubs must’ve been rotating independently within the races. You try and do one little job eh? So, once more unto the pluckin breach then! Those bearings are b*stards straight from satan’s worse dreams. I had forgotten I’d done this job on my last v11; must’ve blanked it for sanity’s sake… But, new bearings in (lovely fag ones- fags are so nice haha) and blow me down but i think the rear suspension is actually working as it should now. I kept wondering why I wasn’t feeling confident in the corners before but now we’re back in business!

Whoaa there fella! Don’t break it or buy a new unit. What i did was reach in with a set of tin snips and cut bits off it till it was small enough to drop out. It’s only very thin metal so cuts very easily.

I had pretty crappy fuel economy till i discovered a nasty crack in my mistral crossover. It was right next to the lambda sensor too. Actually i’ve only just last week had it repair welded and popped it back on the bike.

It took me a frankly embarrassingly long time to understand what was going on with the start relay fix. I refer to it as a royrelay in due deference.

I did a wheelie today!! ok .. so probs only about 3mm.. or that’s 1/8th of an inch to our fine US chums. ….But it still counts!

those bastards can get damn hot. i melted the anodising off the disc once. got to refresh it every year or so i reckon.

The effects certainly were, but with the wheel gripped between my shins the play thru the ‘bars was almost imperceptable. I was rather pleased with the fix- £18 for 2 bearings vs £200 for a new disc!

Extra bonus- i thought the pulsing on the brakes was warped discs. Nope, was bollixed wheels bearings

Update: Now i’ve put fresh wheel bearings in, the suspension feels very good. There’s no preload or compression adjustment on these maxtons and, weirdly, the extremes of the rebound clicks give either a ‘concrete’ or ‘zebedee’ setting that leaves me confused as to who would need them, and for what purpose… but in the middle there’s a few clicks of nice, compliant suspension.

haha! i nearly dropped a lung pushing mine about 50 yards up a slight incline. good job they rarely break down 😀

I’ve been wondering why the front end felt awkward in the corners for a month or so- adjusting the suspension didn’t seem to help a great deal. Turns out the front wheel bearings have a bit of play in them so changing them is today’s job. That along with tyre pressures I think is crucial.

indeed. everything that was originally plastic on my monza is now a fine, black sandy substance. curse ye father time!!

last time i fell off i was wearing a pair of Bull-It covec sr6 jeans, which held up perfectly. They’re not expensive either. I wasn’t going very fast though, maybe hit the road at about 35-40mph, but couldn’t fault them- normal denim would’ve left me with holes in my knees and hip i reckon. Sadly the bike was fooked 🙁
