JRD Posted April 8, 2015 Share Posted April 8, 2015 Does anyone have the paint code number for the starter motor covers on an '02 Le Mans with the champagne/gray color combination. I cleaned my throttle bodies with a carb/T/B cleaner. The paint on the lower edge of the starter motor cover spider webbed and I would like to re-spray it. Heck, Guzzi doesn't have "paint codes" they share with anyone for the newest models. I think Guzzi paints are just like lots of other Guzzi items: from the parts bin! "Hey, Luigi, let's see what mixing these leftover colors will make." I now shop for touch-up paint in the ladies' nail-polish section for my Norge and Griso. No, really. I do. Advantage of red bikes, tho even those are different reds. It's more of a challenge finding the right stuff for my HDM EV. Scud Posted April 9, 2015 Share Posted April 9, 2015 I was just talking with someone at Harper's Moto Guzzi today. For about $75 your paint code can be "Carbon Fiber Replacement." It's not on their website, but the guy said they had them. Then you can sell your stocker on ebay - maybe even for the same price. waspp Posted April 9, 2015 Share Posted April 9, 2015 Take the cover to a good auto paint supply store and have them scan it for the correct color. Multi layer applications can be difficult but you should be able to get a very close match. Someone who sells PPG, Spies Heker, or Nason lines should be able to help. If you have a bodyshop that uses Akzo Nobel Lesonal paint (go to a Mercedes Benz specialist), they can look them up for you. They are the only ones who have Moto Guzzi paint color codes. This makes it hard to mix up single stage paint for touch up, but if you really want the right one, you'll need to find a bodyshop that shoots that paint if you want an exact match. Probably not worth the effort for touch up. I'd go to a drug store with your side cover and find the closest matching silver nail polish. You can see the color of the polish through the bottle. I'll take the cover back off and truck on don to the local automotive paint supply store and see how close they can match it, I don't really care if its perfect, I'm sure it will get its share of dings and scratches. In my experience, those "scan" efforts, which made such great sense in theory, were never quite right, and were also VERY expensive even for a small batch.
