Yes. I was lucky You should have been good. It may have just been a "bad" bolt, but probably is a cheezy built to a price knock off with 8.8 stamped on the head. It's a crap shoot any more with hardware. There was even knock off AN hardware floating around a few years ago, but I think that has been sorted out by now. If you go to an automotive parts store , you follow them to the bin and look to see if it is a good brand before you use it . This Chinese s++t is taking over and I DON'T like it one f'ing bit . I quess we all want a desent price or bargain's was checking with my local hydraulic, tools, bolts store before Christmas, 120bolts M4 M6 M8 bolts in different lenght's, 20-35mm in Titanium,,,,, 26200Kr + 25% vat= 32750Kr,, oopss,, close to 4000$. Small portion's I quess. Way less from far east,, BUT , I mean who knows the precision and quality of the treads. However, if the retailer wants a $1 bolt that they can sell at $3, they can make that, too. If you want, they can make a 29cent bolt that you can sell for $2 to unsuspecting customers. They don't care, they just make what the retailer wants at the price they are willing to pay. I've said for years that if we had enough rope we'd hang ourselves. Now, we've sent all the rope making machinery..and the expertise to run it.. to China. LowRyter Posted January 29, 2020 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Does Caterpillar make metric fasteners? I think the simple thing is to look for the 12.9 standard marked on the fasteners. You can get them at Lowes and probably Ace. That's where I get all of my nuts and bolts. I've tried Fastenal and they seldom have what I need there, so I never go back. You can also go to a specialist store for industrial-supplied fasteners, usually you have a minimum like $20 for a purchase. For sure you can get 12.9 quality at Lowes but they may go for more than a buck a pair for just some 20mm M8 like I had to get got my Duc luggage rack mounts. The Paducah store is almost mail order and The one in Calvert City is incredible . You can't get your sentence finished before a salesman says "how many ?" The pic of the stretched bolt reminds me of Suzuki fasteners of the late 70s-early 80s. Terrible ! I keep new stuff , I keep old stuff of everything I tear down . Last week I took to the scrap yard a 55 gallon drum of SAE stuff , carriage head & what-not of standard stuff. Turns out the Chinese noticed the six lines on the bolt heads (indicating Grade 8) and diligently cut the lines into the heads of the bolts they had on hand . . . If time isn't critical, ordering from Fastenal online can get you exactly what you want, and I've found their customer service to be very helpful. You can choose your head style and drilled for safety wire, etc. Last order it was one week - seven days - from mouse click to doorbell here on the west coast of the US. Incredible.
