Foot control levers/ early vs late

footgoose made an interesting observation that the early Sport (1999-2001) rear brake foot lever is about 5/8" shorter than the later V11s.  This one came off a Rosso Corsa and looks to be 15mm longer than the original on my 2000 Sport. The measure from the pivot to the master cylinder plunger is the same.  Looks like a little bend upward, as well:

A couple years back, Scud pointed out that later V11 gear shift levers differ. At the time, I thought that was only about the mounting end because of the different subframe on "LongFrame" V11, but it seems likely that later foot shift levers are slightly longer to match the brake lever. :huh2:

 

MGCycle and Joe Kenny are both offering replacement rear brake levers. The MGCycle product is made in Germany, black or silver, to the longer, late model dimension.  Not sure the length of the Joe Kenny piece.

I love my JoeK headguards. :thumbsup:

 

His brake lever is just too awkward for me to consider.  The German piece (through MGCycle in the USA) shows some elegance, so I'll get one when (if) the silver  comes available again.

 

Anyone know who is actually building the German part?

Harpers has a billet one too. I have their shift lever and the finish (blasted) is nice. but the DAS is a very nice piece.

Here are the three levers on the bench for comparison.  Top to bottom: Das Mototec (available in the US through MGCycle), early Sport, late V11.

Not sure how the "bend" and the length are going to change my set-up. I prefer the lever be set low and away to keep me from over braking too easily.

Well, nuts. I also like a little "play" between the actuating rod and the master cylinder. This is as short as I can make the rod and there is no "play" to save my rear brake pads/ rotor. Looks like the rod will have to be shortened to use the later "bent" levers to suit my taste.

FWIW, the neither the "brake rod" nor the Ball Joint changed through the V11 model run.

All good so far. Trimmed just 3mm off the brake rod to get my play and adjustability back. Nothing like whacking off a part before you know if it's even available . . .
