Check & Replace those intake boots!

Recommended Posts

I can’t remember exactly where on this site, but I think it was a post by Docc about intake boots. I ordered a pair from MG Cycle and a new oil pressure switch/boot.

Got to replacing the boots today and yup... one was torn and the other one cracked. Good idea to replace them!

Yeah, that's a pretty common failure with injected Guzzis.

I've been struggling with unstable idle, popping and misfiring at low throttle openings, and lean-condition issues since my last (boarched-up) tune-up. Changed a bad TPS, re-sycnch'd,  and so forth. Last night on the lift using that most important of Special Tools, the Fine-Toothed Comb, I found evidence of an un-metered air leak at the intake taps. I very carefully snugged it up (since I can't remember which one has the Heli-Coil) . . .

Today, in very high ambient temperatures, I could not believe the improved behavior! Sweeeeeet! Came home and very slightly tweaked the synch with Hg sticks and both air screws same at 1 full turn. Fresh rubber caps on the taps. Idle back stable.

So great! I'm amazed how that loose vac tap was so significant. :race:
