Yes, I feel pretty much the same.

I believe Steve Vai played on some Frank Zappa albums, and was listed in the credits as "stunt guitar". That comes pretty close... B)

He did some more, say, "palatable" music, such as "For the love of God", but his guitar style is really technical and grammatical, perfect and very square.

If you simply compare Steve's music with Eric Johnson's "Cliff of Dover" with long intro, I mean, how can you not appreciate the sound prowess.

  2. According to Crash dot net, Liberty Media, the owner of F1 is in the closing states of purchasing MotoGP for 4 BN dollars.

Some are saying they will face antitrust inquiry from Europe before that transaction completes.

What struck me was the comparison used between F1 and MotoGP in terms of profit. This is what was used to compare the two. Money....

My only query is, should Liberty managed the purchase, what will they come up with to gather more income? they came up with the Las Vegas F1 Grand-Prix, which was more circus than sport.

Maybe a MotoGP Grand-Prix in Manhattan?

But no one ever said that Steve Vai couldn't play guitar.

I admire his command on the instrument, but I never really liked his music. I feel that it is not melodious enough. I have the same feeling about Yngwie Malmsteen pick sweeping. This rapid succession of notes is very difficult to achieve, but not for me.

Gary Moore in his blues days would really be my favorite.

I also liked Danny Gatton a lot. He was incredibly good at keeping an independent bass line.

  4. I finally got a reply and sample;

They have a minimum quantity order of 50, and they suggest that I select the dye sublimated patch rather than the woven one.

I have requested more information on the endurance of the sublimated patch when exposed to the elements, since those would normally be worn on our riding jackets, front. At least, it will be for me.

The dye sublimated patch is more expensive than the woven one, but not enough to make it a dealbreaker.

I do not know how many in the forum have any interest in getting that patch. My last attempt, with the V11 Le Mans patch, the extra nine found takers.

    Quote

The dye sublimated patch uses a heat transfer process where it takes the exact image and coloring and makes it directly into a patch. Whereas the woven patch is stitched and uses thread colors that may slightly differ from your artwork. The gradient will look flawless on the dye sublimated, but we can use thread blending on the woven style to achieve a similar look. Both style patches will be able to capture the thin white line work as well.

Silly bugger acrobatics, but well done. My respect for the one who figured out who plays what on which strings. :)

I initially thought each one of them were playing independent hands, but it is not the case. The guy fretting the bass line is also doing the finger picking; same for the guy playing the melody, both hands. That leaves the guy at the headstock who is fretting some of the notes.

Check the one below. Scrub to 4'30" and look. Each player frets the other's instrument. That's a bit more complicated coordination wise, even if they strum most of it.

  6. @LowRyter For politicians, it is all about money and what give them a chance to be elected, reelected. I would suppose a lane splitting bill would not be seen well by the majority of the constituents, on four wheels themselves, and because they get immobilized in traffic, they pretend that everyone should be subjected to the same rules.

Even if by overtaking between the lanes, a motorcyclist does not directly increase traffic; quite the opposite, in fact. Because it is a better occupation of the asphalt, since they do not encroach in the available space, but uses what is usually free between the lanes of cars. In this way, they create more space by moving off the lines.

I initially did not know that lane splitting was not allowed in Texas, and I quickly learned my lesson by overtaking stuck cars on the 610. I had a concert of honks as I was moving up. So even if the bill passed in Texas, there would be a lot of education needed for Texans to accept it.

100%...ALSO allowing motos to get to the front of the line at a red stoplight would be wonderful.

I called AMA this morning, of which I am a member, and they have some members which are implied in legislation: https://americanmotorcyclist.com/action-center/

I am going to write to my House and Senate representatives, and of course, to our Governor in trying to get something similar as the Colorado lane filtering and passing bill.  There are some studies made in Europe that actually support and prove that allowing motorcyclists to move freely between stopped cars facilitates circulation.

I also made contact with David Canada the motorcycle grand tour of Texas director, since he is an advisor for AMA.

The only downsides I have found are once having to reshape the outer surfaces for clearance in a particularly tight fitting helmet, and discovering they filter out high pitch mechanical noises.  Like when my other bike ate up its cam and rockers over time and I didn't hear it.

I had several exchanges with the UK based Snugs people. One of my worry was the actual noise filtering, since I want to be able to hear traffic around me, emergency vehicles, police, honks. The only noise frequency I want filtered out is the wind. Now that I have a little experience of riding in Texas, I know that a lot of our westward highways are frequently subjected to wind gusts.

If you look at the Snugs-Moto page, they have an option for "filter", and this is actually an additional input for external sound. They have a selection of filters to decide how much you want to let in, or you can install a plug for total isolation.

Once I receive the set, I will be able to share my experience.

On errands around home, I do not wear earplugs. I always start my bike without my helmet on, so I can listen to any changes; this is why I know there is something amiss with my starter. The cranking sound is not as it was before.

LCR's contract is up and I would be surprised if LCR resigns with Honda.

This came up in the MotoGP debriefs that I watched, and the journalist who's the main expert during those videos said that LCR will remain with Honda.

I think Lucio Cechinello has a personal commitment to Honda, but of course, anything is possible.

Ducati has eight machines on the grid. I think we can agree that it is not exactly what most people want, including spectators. Besides the obvious, it is also probably heavy on the finance side, and Ducati did say they were going to look at expenses now that they became the machines to beat. VR46 expressed their intention to stay with Ducati, but if they cannot meet Ducati's stipulations, then they may need to look elsewhere. Yamaha is desperate to get another team, but KTM too.

But rather than machinery, I am really wondering about Marquez and Martin.

Marquez is not looking for a cushy finance deal, but for a way to add one more world championship to his roster. This would make him much more suitable for the Ducati Factory team, if Enea Bastianini was let go. Jorge Martin is said to be looking for a much better paycheck, and Ducati has clearly said that when you ride one of their machine, the main perk, is you have the best machine; it comes at a price.

As it stands, I could even see Martin moving to Yamaha to replace Quartararo if he is going to leave. Quartararo got a very substantial offer from Yamaha to stay. Martin's main interest is to move to a factory team. Would he accept to give up the best machine for a work in progress? I don't see KTM being interested in him, with what Pedro Acosta has shown, Brad Binder's performance, they are set. Unless they get another team?

  10. This is exactly the kind of traffic rule that we recently discussed with other motorcyclists in Texas.

The bill allows motorcyclists to pass stopped cars between lanes at a speed that does not exceed 15 mph.

We need this here in Houston and in every major city. The entire city access, surroundings, is nothing but a continuous traffic jam. Allowing motorcycles to move up would certainly help, and maybe inspire some four wheelers to change from 4 to 2 wheels.

I am not sure Ducati will loose a team for next season, but it is a possibility. Hard to imagine any team would sign up to run Yamaha's at the back of the field, though. Sponsors would hate that and would likely bail. I can't imagine why any team would sign up to run Honda's or Yamaha's until they get their act together. MotoGP is a business based on winning. Why would any team want to give up bikes they can win on in exchange for bikes they can't.

After signing Bagnaia for the next two years, Ducati mentioned there were going to make some budget cuts and financial adjustments. While Uccio said he is all for renewing with Ducati, they may not have the budget to meet Ducati's demand. That Valentino Rossi is the official ambassador of Yamaha Racing Team may also influence the decision.

Pramac's contract is up too. Less likely to change horse, but who knows.

Honda already has LCR as their second team. It is mainly Yamaha how really needs another garage.

  12. I have ordered the Snugs-Moto and I should receive them in April.

My current helmet is a Shark GP-R Pro carbon, and I purchased the now defunct "Shark Tooth" communication system. This never really was ideal, as I wear ear plugs to filter out the wind noise, and the audio becomes inaudible as soon as you hit the highway speed. Not that I listen to anything but navigation.

On my last outing, the "Shark Tooth" failed. After a power down, it never turned on again. On a side note, I opened the main unit, and was amazed at what you get for $150.00! a very small battery, and a minuscule PC board.

I looked for a replacement communication system, and again, not only you get that ugly side control to put on your helmet, on top of it, those Cardo and Sena are very expensive. What happens when I want to change my helmet? do I need another system?

The perfect alternative, is to get a custom set of in-ear monitors that fit under a helmet. You can wear it with multiple helmet, and it seats (allegedly) perfectly in your ear since they use a 3D print of your ear canal, that needs to be made by an audiologist. USD 125.00 for basically 5 minutes of injecting cold moldable foam in your ear.

I purchased the Snugs-Moto for USD252.94. Since they are in-ear, they should filter out the wind noise, remain audible whatever the speed, be comfortable long term, and be independent of what helmet you wear.

Once I start using them, I will report back. I know that @docc wears in-ear custom-made, but I don't know if they are monitors too.

This is beginning to feel more and more like Formula 1 now with drivers bouncing between constructors trying to find that elusive combination of mechanical advantage and good voodoo to win.  I just hope we see Marquez on the podium a few times this year and even more hopefully Acosta on top in a few races as well.

I do not know if it smells like F1, as I lost interest after Senna, Prost, Piquet, Mansell, Lauda retired.

Ducati is most likely going to lose a team next season. Minimum. VR46 may go to Yamaha, which may influence Fabio's decision to remain in place.

Pramac's contract with Ducati is also up at the end of this season, but honestly, I don't see them switching.

While we don't know what Marquez wants to do, Jorge Martin has been adamant that next season, he will be on a factory bike. Which one?

For Pedro Acosta, he needs to win a MotoGP before the German Grand-Prix to beat Marquez as the youngest ever winner. Even if he said that he is not looking at keeping scores, I am certain that he is very well aware of that opportunity. There is also no uncertainty that he will be in the factory team next year.

  14. @HRC_V4

The four turn indicators of my Quota have collapsed. I am thinking to use four wooden dowel pieces and thermoshrinkable tubing around to straighten them up.

I don't know how good or bad it is going to look, and I don't know if it is going to endure the test of time and hard Texas sun.

This old tractor had a suggestion to use Buell turn signal which are drop in place, but I can't find those either.

I would love to see FQ at Aprilia

I was watching the YouTube debriefs today, those made by journalists which are present at the events.

Fabio Quartararo has an offer from Aprilia; answering questions, he said he will make his decision before the mid-season.

He most likely is going to make less money at Aprilia than he would if he stayed in Yamaha. Now Enea Bastianini is also being penciled to move to Aprilia. It is unlikely that both Maverick Viñales and Aleix Espargaro would both move.

Yamaha's test day was cut short because of the rainy weather. Bad luck!

Seems the trans was having issues most of the race, and finally packed it in at the end.

Yes, confirmed. From the 7th or 8th lap, Maverick had issue with the 6th gear. He had to make multiple attempts to get it in, until the last lap when it failed for good, and he found himself idle in a turn.

I'm interested to know if yours has the 4k rpm switch, engine power and smoothness is much better when at 4k rpm or above.

My rejuvenated Tachometer and Speedometer are coming back from Germany this week.

Once it is back together, I will be using it to do the Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas stops.

I'm dismayed at how poorly former super star Quartararo is doing these days.

    He is too.

I watched a debrief of the GP on YouTube, and according to the French journalist, Fabio Quartararo is set to leave Yamaha.

The obvious target is Aprilia. I don't think any of the other factory teams have a need for his services, they are ripe with their own bred talent.

Would he accept to go to a private team, such as Tech3 GasGas is given the opportunity? I don't think there is any doubt that Pedro Acosta will integrate the factory team in 2025, there is also the possibility of an Augusto Fernandez exit.

The situation is complicated for Fabio, with not many options. Personally, I think he should stick with Yamaha hoping for better days. But he does not want to wait.

We figured that Marquez would be a net negative on the entire Ducati GP effort. Even though I think Peco was at fault (it was a racing incident IMO, not intentional), I think the fireworks are just starting. Let's not forget Martin, who's itching for a factory ride.

Claudio Dominicalli, administratore delegato of Ducati said the following:

I understand both pilot's narrative, but I can't justify them, because it has impacted Ducati negatively.

Obviously, both Bagnaia and Marquez are saying they did not do anything wrong.

To me, Bagnaia should have let it go. The question I am asking myself is, was it because it was Marquez? pride? was it because Bagnaia messed up yesterday during the sprint race?
