Yeah, I learn that one when I was 14, working on mopeds . . . Lots of spark plugs changes and most new ones come with the nut barely snug! 2
gstallons Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Look at some pics of these forks disassembled so you know what goes where and what may be causing your leak. Also see if there are videos on fork repairs on Ohlins forks. All forks require strict procedures so pay attention to what you are doing. 1
knumbnutz Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I finally pulled my finger out and tried to start the bike.. ended up replacing the battery which is under my tank, so after a small mission, got a new battery and started first pop. well...its only been 18months. Bought a new house and all the toys got put to the side while get the house and yard up to spec. Maybe drinking a lot of beer and playing pool, etc too. I now have all bike running. choices.. 4
FreyZI Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Bubbles had been suffering from intermittent no start situations for a while, but always started eventually after several attempts interspersed with some permutation of manipulating key, switch, neutral, clutch, stand, swearing, etc. The last time she didn't start, thankfully, she was in the driveway. Ordered a ten-pack of relays and swapped, to good effect. The Tenni similarly got a new relay, and then a ride on a lovely fall day (50F, sunshine). Afterward, the Bubbles winter project commenced (a few weeks early). Tank, air box, and throttle bodies off. TBs will get a cleaning and new bush(ings/es) and some new rubber. Here's what the intake sides of the bores and butterflies look like. Is that bad? @docc, I saw that you commented on your dirty TBs from a cleaning in '23. How did they compare? On the right body, there's a little set screw acting as a stop, which I take to be an idle set. I've long felt Bubbles' idle was too low, so will be glad to experiment with that. While I'm at it, I will try to figure out why the so-called choke control has never worked. Always felt like the cable was stuck, so I'll check out the routing. Many questions undoubtedly will arise, but I'll post them in technical topics. Cheers, Frey 2

docc Posted November 23 Posted November 23 Cleaning the throttle bodies is certainly imperative to getting the right plate fully closed for the TPS baseline. Many defeat the right side idle set screw in favor of using the ( more accessible) left idle screw to set the idle. Some have found that using both may give a more stable idle with rather worn throttle bodies/ linkage. "Idle setting" is Step 6 of 6 on the "Decent Tune-up" . . . 1
docc Posted November 23 Posted November 23 FWIW, after I bought mySport new, the extraordinary guy who was my dealer told me, "You can't just turn the screw to change the idle ." I really could not yet fathom what he was trying to tell me, but I recall picking the Sport up from its 600 mile/ 1000km service and asked him how the tune went. He replied (something like), "Starts when we started it, shuts off when we shut it off ." After learning the nuances of the V11 tune-up, I can appreciate the attitude of those on "shop rate" looking at it like Joel Chandler Harris' Tar Baby which epitomizes the conundrum found all too often in complex systems: as in, "Well, you messed with it, now you're stuck (literally, in the case of the Tar Baby ! ) with getting it sorted out." 1 1

Mr Revhead Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Haha I dunno about that. Time and funds are a little tight so it might be slow going. My T5 has sprung a leak from the heads (rocker orings) so I need to sort that first! 1 1

Spent some time after work looking at what I have. It's not bad, but it's not mint and needs some sorting. Someone's played with various things and the flasher relay is zip tied to where the tool holder should sit. There's a Power commander, and I'm very suspicious as it's got BPR7 in one side and BPR8 in the otherand that one is very sooty! So once all the wiring niggles (I see connectors with boots half off etc) are sorted I think I'll be unplugging the commander and setting the throttles etc from scratch. I've done it on my EV and tweaked that with GuzziDiag so this shouldn't be any harder. Oh, and it still has the alloy flywheel 2

audiomick Posted December 2 Posted December 2 (edited) I got into the garage today for a couple of hours. Bolted in the new timing sensor that has been lying around here for nearly a year, and made a start on mounting the Hyperpro steering damper that has been here for nearly 2 years. Got stalled on the steering damper because the outboard bolt that I have, M8 x 40mm, probably the original, is not quite long enough. There is a nyloc style self-locking nut on there, and the bolt is not quite long enough to engage the nylon bit, at least not long enough for my taste. The list of things to do is still long, but a start has been made. PS: working in an unheated garage at under 6°C is possible, but not ideal... Edited December 2 by audiomick 1
