Wasn't that before Guzzis had a fuel gauge?  They would merely start to sputter, so you'd know to turn the petcock to the reserve tank.  So there was nothing for her to glance down at, and exclaim.

I have done that a b'zillion times and will never look that cute.

I always just look stupid. Then, there is > no one < to pony up a mille lire for my plight . . .

On the other hand, I once paid a guy a mille lire (five bucks) for a gallon of weedeater gas for my sputtering VFR to get to the next town. 

All he had to show me was the gascan . . .
