John Neeson Posted October 27 Share Posted October 27 Hi Everyone. I am currently stripping my 1997 Sport 1100i engine. I am not sure how to remove the ring gear and clutch. I bought a clutch centering/compression tool. My understanding is that bolt is supposed to screw into the end of the crankshaft. However there is no threaded hole to screw into. Kevin_T Posted October 27 Share Posted October 27 (edited) You need a bolt 12 mm x 1.5 about 110 mm fully threaded to compress the clutch. If you can't find that get some threaded rod. Don't go around the perimeter of the ring gear loosening the bolts you can damage the plates low probability but why take the chance you will need it when reassembly everything. I bought a bike off a member for a few dollars because a dealer trashed his clutch only went 12,000 miles(sad) Euro cycle out of business. docc Posted October 28 Share Posted October 28 Reviewing the V11 Workshop Manual, Section M pp 52 and 56, I see the same tool is used for both disassembly (spring compression) and assembly (alignment). By removing the center button @Tomchri points out, the special tool can be screwed in until it compresses the springs at which point the eight bolts can be removed to take the "toothed ring" off. audiomick Posted October 28 Share Posted October 28 In the certain knowledge that a centering tool is required to re-assemble the clutch on the big-block guzzis, and that my clutch may well become due in the foreseeable future (the bike has about 70,000 km on the clock...) I bought one of these when a bloke in the German forum made a batch of them and offered them for a very reasonable price. I think I am now beginning to understand how it is supposed to work.
