Finally some weather yesterday, and time to test out the Coppa. Starts fine home, all good. After about 10km she starts to misfire a bit, had to give her some revs to keep going. Idling not possible. Sitting for about an hour at friends house. Starts fine again, riding of, but soon misfiring. Got her home sort of. So what comes to mind ?  Today I changed the CIT relays to Omrons, Rev sensors work when cold, but if broken dies when hot. In with a new rev sensor. TPS steady from 1075 to 3000. Started her up in the afternoon, no success. Keeping her alive with reving, lots of black smoke of gas. Spark plugs, lets say BLACK. Another used set in, just the same.  Hints please.

Cheers Tom.

Did it run well previously? What has been changed since then that could cause running rich?

Intake somehow restricted, mice moved into air box or something else restricting air box ?

TPS has some issue?

Is the base value for the TPS correct? 157 mV with the throttle valve closed and everything disconnected from it (linkages, choke, idle stop screwed right out, what-have-you)?

What was it running like before it was parked ? You are not giving much history for good advice .

Good call on that. I have to set traps in my cars sometimes. Ahhh, country living.

The title says "drowning in fuel", but you describe a defect that appears to be related to heat. Why do you suspect fuel?

I agree with @pressureangle that valves too tight could be the problem. I had these symptoms when I set the valves to the original factory specs. Setting to "world spec" clearances fixed it.

Your idea of heating the rev sensor to 100°C while measuring the resistance is a good idea too.

Fuel pressure regulator stuck closed. I've had the bike sitting for a extended period of time and turned the ignition on and heard the pump prime and labour then a sudden distinctive "pop" as the regulator unsticks itself. You will get away with a rich mixture due to a jammed reg with a cold engine but not when it's warmed up.

Great data point, I'd not have thought of it unless perhaps it happened to me. Such as with the relic I'm resurrecting now.

Thanks everybody. Sorry, for not explaining everything. Bike 100% original when l bought it. She was running ok, just the 3000rpm hesitation. Went thru EVERYTHING, installed complete new exhaust with Titanium mufflers and ECU, valves 0.2+, just one mouse in my house. Today l took out the TPS, checked again, no glitch, set it to 157mv. Start’s perfect and runs perfect. Me thinks Phil had a point with the regulator. Boy was she running RICH, like an old Volvo with full choke. Fuel fumes for hours upstairs. Mini test ride because of the weather, but no problems compared to the same test ride yesterday. Oh well, always something to learn. Thanks again guys.
Cheers Tom.
