Today (and a few days ago)

 

A coupla days ago, I went to start the GG, turned the key on, pulled the clutch, hit the starter button, and nuthin.

 

Twisted the bars to the right, hit the button again, and vrooom. The hussey started right up.

 

On a ride through SD country today with a mate, this didn't work a second time. The vixen wouldn't start until pushed off. Now this is the second time this has happened.

 

The first time I wasa block away from home. This time I was 100 miles. The first time this required replacing (according to the shop) 5 (count 'em), 5 relays.

 

I was told this wouldn't happen again. Yeah, right!

 

Anybody know how to make THAT happen? Gettin a bit tired of this BS. Did Italians study under the British? I really wonder if I take this thing apart if I will find "Lucas" on the bloody parts.

 

Is there a really permanent fix for all these ultra-modern relays?

GG, it's the infamous bullet connectors under the left-front of the tank that go to the clutch lever switch. I had the same trouble, as have many others, and the temp fix you discovered was the same. The permanent fix is to take the tank off, cycle the connectors a few times to wipe off corrosion, lube with dielectric grease, re-crimp lightly, and re-connect. A few have soldered the joint. I haven't had a trace of the problem after the former routine.

Cool stuff, probably better than the wire tapping things I use today. I sent them an e-mail asking for shipping to the Netherlands.

 

The other site with the connectors was also usefull, might be relevant for my GPS... (on my previous bike I didn't miss it...)
