  1. here are some layers.. the clutch/flywheel were removed with 12k miles... so pretty new.
on the right the ring gear with clutch plate laid on. left is flywheel with intermediate plate and spring 'disc' (not really sure what to call the spring thing)

the one on top is the ring with starter teeth and the raised bits that look so bad in the pics. It's fine up close and personal.

Ok gotcha - thank you so much for taking the time to share the pics of each part - really helpful.

I feel like we’ve gone into the ditch with the clutch issues but it’s obviously a real concern and has everything to do with the Tenni (among others), so thanks to all for your input!

So what’s an aluminum flywheel owner to do nowadays? Do parts exist to resolve this issue or do we just hope for the best and pray we don’t end up with a parts bike?

  2. here's the 'door stop' from the Tenni. The alm flywheel is all alm with one two sided clutch plate a 'disc' spring (last) and a pressure plate.

What on earth are the areas where it looks like metal is missing? That looks somewhat what you can see through the inspection port in my pic

  4. True story. Had the pic but it was 2009 of the same number triple clamps and the riders laughing about it.  Remember the Duc Sportclassic black and gold babies? Pretty bikes.

Yeah, I remember them - I HAD one! Wrecked unfortunately due to a texting teenager in her car...that’s a whole ‘nother story

  5. If the clutch rattles when you pull the lever its a twin plate, if it rattles with the lever out its a single plate

    Hmmm

  6. I don't think you're seeing my point. They are special. And not every V11 is the same. And if you think through my perspective All V11s are the same? Well, I guess all V11s are special. All hand built Italian bikes with all of them being slightly different. Touchè.
Oh, by the way.. I personally thing Guzzi fudged their numbers and made waaaaaay more than 170 Tennis and a heck of a lot more than 600 Scuras.  Like when I went to Marcus Dairy in CT and 2 guys had the same numbered Special Edition Ducati Sport Classic.
And I love Tennis too. One of my bucket list bikes.

Wait - whaaaat? Two special edition Ducati SCs with the same # on the triple clamp?? I’d have to see that to believe it. I don’t know if I believe MG would do that either. I sure hope not that’s just NOT COOL.

  7. thats cool the paint was fixed. that probably happened before the flywheel fiasco erupted so doubtful it was swapped then. I rode my Tenni almost 13k mi before swapping the clutch and flywheel and there was no indication of damage on the flywheel. I think many have done many more miles with no problems. And as I've said before, there's no guarantee it will fall apart, but the fact that it might... and that some have... was enough for me to do a swap. What Limited Edition number is yours?

Mine is #133 and has 14,000 miles

  8. How many previous owners? How many miles? If no info was passed down to you regarding a prior clutch replacement, chances are it's the original. There is much info here regarding the aluminum flywheel installed oem into Rosso Mandello, Tenni and Scura. There are remedies.

Two prior owners. No info about the flywheel.
    Voltage regulator (Ducati 916)
crinkle paint on engine under recall nothing about the flywheel...

  9. Do you still have the Kaboom flywheel or the improved one . If you have the OEM , that's like riding around with a dissected aorta !

Uhhh honestly I’m not sure. Any way to easily tell without taking the engine apart?

  10. Of course it’s “special” -  name one V11 which isn’t?
However, there’s one quality which stands out which  “models” are special - the ones equipped special - those running Ohlin’s.
That said, imo the Tenni model is uniquely special - as the only V11 to ever have raced at the Isle of Man TT

    Bravo! Respect.

True on any V11 being special. I mean - seriously, when was the last time you saw a Guzzi on the road let alone a V11?? So yeah, I get that. I guess I was asking more specifically, within the breed - among V11s in general how are they regarded?

Cool about the IOM entry! Who cares how it placed? Respect!

  11. Is that your Tenni? How long have you owned it?
Desirability/collect-ability? I think Tenni fits in something like this... just My Opinion... (don't be hurt anyone please):helmet:
    Scura R
    Copa
    Rosso/Nero Corsa
    Tenni/Scura
    Cafe Sport
    Rosso Mandello
    Early (red frame) Sport
    LeMans
    Sport
As time passes the Tenni will move up the list for rarity. Of all the specials edition models, the Tenni has the best 'back story' in the Moto Guzzi racing history of their champion Omobono Tenni.

As a matter of fact it is my Tenni. I’ve had it for about 4 years and it had been on my list to buy for a long time. They don’t come up for sale all that often so when this one came up I grabbed it. I have a Stelvio and a V7 II also but this one to me is really special. I’ve loved the V11 LM since they came out and the Tenni to me is the pinnacle of the iteration - maybe not technically but stylistically so. I posted to hear what others think or if it was just me?

  12. What do you all think about how these are regarded in general among all the other V11s produced over the years? Are they special or just another run like the Ballabio, Nero, Scura, etc...? Thoughts?

  13. +1 on Mitas E07 tires. I’ve got 5000 miles on mine and they’ve got another few thousand in them. Stable in pavement wet or dry, solid cornering, used on gravel, dirt and rocks on my NTX. I’ll def be getting another set. Get the Dakar version if using more off road

  14. FWIW, I updated the Tenni Registry. You can view the registry made by Van on this topic's first page, If you have changes or additional info, just reply to this topic and Van or I can edit.

    Hello,

I’ve got #133 and am in Austin, Texas. The bike was purchased from part of Ewan McGregor’s personal collection.

    Thanks!
    Patrick

  15.

    Hey everyone,

Here’s my 2002 Tenni #133/170 with 14k miles on it. Always wanted one and was able to pick this one up last summer.

  16. Well, I'm back! After leaving the fold of V11 Le Mans riders (due to crashing and totaling my 2003 V11 LM in 2014), I've returned, this time with a 2002 Tenni! I just picked up Tenni number 131 from its original owner in North Carolina yesterday. I drove over on Sunday 4/29 and returned on 4/30 to Missouri, where it will be ridden a bit more than previously. When I picked up the bike, I knew it needed new tires, so I "for real" rode it today for the first time to take it to Moto Europa, where my wife and I have bought four bikes (two Ducatis, a Triumph and a Vespa). Upon arrival after the ride, I found that the tires were not the ONLY rubber that needed attention. On the way there, the breather hose sprung a visible oil leak. Also, upon further inspection, it could use rear brake pads and an EFI sync. I am also going to have the engine and final drive fluids changed out. The previous owner just flushed out the hydraulics for the brakes and clutch, so those are good.

Even with all that, I absolutely ADORE this motorcycle! It feels like nothing else I've ridden (my late, great 2003 V11 LM notwithstanding), and it sounds wonderful, even with the stock LaFranconi Carbon Fiber mufflers. It reminded me of why I love Moto Guzzis, and that I'll never be without one again, hopefully. I'll be so happy to get it back mostly fresh and new!! All that will remain is getting the suspension set-up and possibly refurbished by our local suspension expert in the St. Louis area.

I'll try to get some pics that I've taken already loaded here later tonight or this week.

    Great! Welcome back!

  17. Hello, does anyone know when the last time the registry list was updated? Seems a few Tennis have changed hands since the list was originally put together.

    Thanks,

  18. Congratulations on the bike, it's a beauty. I saw that and another bike of his listed on e-Bay recently for premium prices. Will this be a collector/showpiece for you - or will you be riding it?

Thanks! I've been wanting one of these for a long time but circumstances haven't permitted it until now. These Tenni versions don't come up very often, which makes sense since the registry seems to agree that there are only 35 or so if these in the US.

I had no idea this was Ewan's bike (not that it matters but does make for good conversation) but after bidding at a much lower price but probably still too much I secured the purchase. The accompanying documents support that it was indeed his, although not from new.

The paperwork included is the original certificate issued to a "Tony Doucette" and purchased 9/5/2002 from Big Twin BMW Motorcycles in Boise ID. Service records show he had the bike until at least 2008.

The next pickup on service records is under Ewan in Dec 2013. However the first registration record was issued in June of 2013.

Between owners, my guess is the bike was sold to another person on this forum "racecarjohnny" in FL before getting picked by Ewan...?

Anyway, despite the premium paid, I am happy with my purchase and yes - I plan on riding this beauty. It will be my "special" bike, not that my V7 and Stelvio aren't but it's a Tenni!! As time passes, I can't help but think these will become even more desirable. This was not a financial decision, it was made from the heart and that is priceless.
