  1. Mine does what’s Stewgnu’s does.......she leans quite noticeably to the right, but continues pretty much in a straight line. Very peculiar. My BMW does’t do it (droopy v-twin) so i’m intrigued why the Guzzi does it

  2. Been silent for a while here. Too busy enjoying riding my V11. I lurve this bike. Sooooo much character!

Anyway, a question for you V11 riders.....what happens on your bike if you’re riding in a straight line, say 40-50mph, in top, steady speed, and you take your hands off the bars and let the bike decelerate?

I won’t lead the witness by telling you what happens on my bike, but I’m interested to see if others get a similar effect

  3. Update on my original oil in the air box issue that I discovered when is serviced my new to me V11 for the first time.........1000 miles of riding since doing a major service and tune up on the bike and I just pulled the air box lid to find.................completely clean and dry HURRAH!

The problem must have been a previous owner grossly over filling the oil (likely) or wheelying the bike a lot (unlikely), either way, I am very happy about it

BTW I pulled the tank because the speedo cable snapped!

  4. Thanks Docc,

You are correct re the 157mv, that is what I had meant to write not 531mv. Brain fart drinking bear and posting at the same time!

I did pull the relays and inspect the contacts, they were all super clean. I swapped out the battery for a new one though because the old one was cranking slow and giving up after a few attempts.

BTW, this is an awesome forum, I’ve learned so much good info about these bikes and how to set them up properly. It’s saved me a lot of grief

  5. Just finished the final stage of giving Sophia a major service which was to check the CO trim (it was already set to 0).

Anyways, when I serviced the bike I set the TPS at spot on 531mv, but when I had guzzidiag connected it was reading 436mv on the guzzidiag dashboard.

The bike is running beautifully but I’m wondering which reading is correct, my voltmeter or guzzidiag?

    Anyone know the answer?

  6. I agree that if I need to clean the muck out again it would be easier to pull the TBs off the bike and clean them on the bench. The only reason I didn’t do them that way this time was that the mounting bolts under the TBs were REALLY tight and I didn’t want to shear one and have the hassle of fixing it

  7. Pressureangle, I’m really interested in the result of your intermediate oil trap experiment. I can’t believe the amount of oil in my air box and in the throttle bodies is right. Either someone has grossly overfilled my bike with oil at some stage, or the rings are worn (unlikely on a 9000 mile motor) or there is something else wrong.

I’m going to finish doing the service, make sure everything is set up properly and the oil is not overfilled, then I’m going to monitor the air box contents

Out of interest, if there is anyone on the forum who has worked on a lot of different v11’s have they seen this on many bikes? I’m particularly interested in whether they have found black oily gunk all through the throttle bodies, inlet manifold and inlet tract in the head? The gunk is thick but not burnt on and hard. Very odd, never seen anything like it before

  8. Yup, I’ve taken an SMT out while my SM was in for a service. Basically the same bike but with a beak, road suspension and ABS.

The ABS is a must have on these bikes. The brembo front stoppers are incredibly fierce and unless the front is properly planted (front forks compressed) they lock the front in the blink of an eye.

How do I know this? Well I actually owned two 990SMs and crashed both of them by losing the front because I hadn’t got the weight transferred all the way forward before grabbing a real handful. The last time left me unconscious in the middle of the road as I’d hit the ground so hard.

An awesome bike, but one that needs some respect
