I'm looking into getting a 2011 0r 2012 1200s.
Has the issue with the cams etc been put to rest
or are there monsters still lurking.
is there any specific engine number that is sure
fire no longer having problems.
I've been holding back on buying one of these
for a while .
looked at a couple of stelvios up for sale
and noticed they have a very heavy clutch.
is this normal, or a clean and lube job.
they all had between 12--15000 miles on

I'd also check the inlet rubber mount, prone to cracking, mine went and sounded like an old compressor

Presently not a guzzi owner, but I do like to call in and out to see whats going on.
and keeping me entertained
Want to wish you all a merry Christmas and all the best for the new Year

This is bad news John, If you need any help give me a ring.
possible a bad bearing, any blueing of the crank or bearings to show possible oil pressure loss

with Ti cans and ECU I used to get 52 British MPG, ridden in economy mode 56. John in Leeds used to be about 5mpg less for the same run at the same time, when we had runs out. Fuel light worked when it felt like it, so relied on the trip meter and filled at 150 miles

touring the alps at the moment, 10 deg c bloddy raining again.
went over glossglockner was turned round half way, closed due to
snow.
Gerloss just very wet, just like been at home then really

pair of axle stands if available under the pok chops. put something under the chops so that they don't become scratched whilst on the stands, I have found it very stable in use

Hi Guy
other than damp in the works what did you make of the Zumo.
Did the mount fail in use or while left out in the rain with the zumo off, there is reports on the zumo site of the rubber boot perishing that covers the contacts when not in use
Had my zumo for about 6 week, only used it in the van so far, still getting to grips with it, it doesn't seem logical after 4 years with tomtom3, I like the route log facilitie though.
going to the Austrian Alps at the weekend so how it copes then, going on the blackbird though. must admit made a mistake there, I will be buying e guzzi again when I come back, half fancy 1200s

The position of the calliper looks fine, inclined to think its a build up of crud or a sticking piston
As been said by others, a good clean up required

guzzi owner
post the pics of your calliper problem then we can see if we are all on the right track
I have had the same as martin, dirt build up in the calliper and sticking brake pedal

If you lift the tank you will see two brass outlets under the tank roughly below the filler neck, one of them is the drain for any trapped water from around the filler. remove brass fitting and clear out with a small drill. If your lucky you might find two hoses connected to the brass outlets.
I have found its a build up lime scale from water that blocks the small hole

John I have found the guzzi feels flat with the standard ECU with the Ti cans.
all through summer it only pinged when very hot ambiant temp. which I then ran it on high octane fuel which cured the pinging. It might be worth going into moto Strada and have it set up.
It would be interesting to see if your fuel economy improves
If weather ok saturday going for a long run out ??

check through the wiring and connections, sounds like a high resistance, will let the voltage through but not pass the current to light hte bulb

Emailed you confirming 2 off requirement, Pete.
Have a small issue to sort out re. collection / postage as similar to our Irish brothers, I ain't on the same lump of land either!
I would appreciate it if some kind soul would collect and post on or if mutually convenient hang on to them pending my visit to North Yorks in early November?
Nige.
I can collect and keep until you come to sunny Yorkshire if required

I'll still have one
I am up in Leeds, if you let me know where and when you want me to collect
I have sent you an e-mail
Thanks

I'm in as well please

If as gregs says the pressure dropped on accelerating, wouldn,t you also get the same problem climbing mountain passes forcing the oil to the back of the sump, I also would have thought sump height vertical baffles were required to stop the surge of oil away from the pickup

the picture of the riders left side, 15mm spacer and leg. Its not very clear from the picture but it looks like the wheel bearing is incorrectly fitted, If I remember correctly the bearing should be flush with the face and the 15mm spacer butts up to it

you do a lot of riding in the wet, firstly measure resistance on the connections from the alternator checking none have gone high resistance or down to earth. unfortunately never had one of these units apart so I can't tell you which connections you need to read across, with your fluctuating readings on AC I'd be inclined to pull the alternator check the slip rings for dirt or bad connections,

Thanks pete and GuzziMoto for your replies
the local dealer is supposed to be good, or he was when I had my V11.
I might have a off the cuff discussion, and ask what they do if a bike is
brought in, and if they follow the Guzzi procedure.
Or carry out the additional work as recommended by pete.
watch this space as they say
