1. At my local today and met a guy who I've talked to before. Seems his dead Father who was a Hells Angels member had a lust for Guzzis and has left a few behind. Of course his son wants to keep at least a couple of the bikes but says he has a 850T he wants to sell. Says the paint is oxidized but the bike starts up with no problem as he's been using a trickle charger.

So, tell me all you know about the 850T please. He only wants $1500 for it but I don.t know the year and haven't seen it yet. He wants to sell it to a person who will appreciate it...........and that would be me!!!!!!!!!

  2. A bit off topic but I have felt your pain.

I owned a 1983 750 V-4 Honda Interceptor that ate through camshafts frequently.

I got finally got rid of it and bought a 85 900Ninja which promptly ate a set of camshafts.

Later on, I bought a 1998 Suzuki TL1000S which had a main bearing problem which Suzuki ignored.

I had to buy a used motor and stick that in. I took the facked motor to Suzuki's Western Canada regional office, dumped the parts on their front steps, (While they were closed) took some photos of it and Cycle Canada magazine published the photos.

A couple of years ago I had a new 950 KTM Adventure which promptly exploded with 13,000 kms on it. Covered under warranty but 3 months to get it repaired.

Both Guzzis I've owned have performed great. Only issues were the Siemens relays.

  3. Another late summer bike event passes, the Isle of Vashon TT. For those not living in the North American North West, this is a Greater Seattle event, geared towards the classic/vintage/antique bike scene, the main event of the year for the Seattle based VME [Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts] club. Riders from as far south as Portland, Oregon, as far north as Vancouver, British Columbia.

Anyways, I try to head down every year, about 130 miles one way. I get up around 5:00am, hit the border by 6:00, and make the Vashon ferry crossing by 8:30. This year took down my 20 yr old GS, maybe not a true classic, but is approaching the age, where it is now warmly welcomed amongst most of the event. I've taken my Nortons a few times, the RC30 Honda as well, and the 400-4 SS Honda, all classic bikes now, not just of age, but with general standing as collectable machines of merit.

I've held off taking my V11 Sport, too new I've told myself. I've always cursed under my breath, the guys showing up on modern crotch rockets, or new Harley Davidsons. I mean crap, there's got to be some Harley rally these guys can go to rather than an old bike event. Just go away you idiots!!!

So, about the late Spine Frames??? 1999-2005. I spotted at least one 2002 red/grey Lemans, one red framed green V11 Sport, and a couple more 2003+ Sports within the assemblage this year. 5 years ago, I'd have questioned these things showing up. But they were made in fairly small numbers by other manufacturers numbers, and with the red framed Sports, are around 10 yrs old now.

So, when will it not be in 'bad form' to show up at a 'classic' event on a V11 Sport????

Don't worry Steve, one of these times I'll show up there on my Thruxton!

  4. Yup! Just watch "The Long Way Round" - when Charlie and Ewan are wrestling and dropping their mammoth BMW's through Russia, their cameraman is happily booting it along effortlessly on his little Russian thing. Until it blew up... :P

You can allways pick the type of "off road" you want to do. The more serious, the lighter the bike. We're lucky in BC as there's all kinds of mild dirt roads, which I have taken my Quota on with no problem to Trials riding. You just get out a map, try it and if it gets to gnarly, ya turn around and head for pavement. Best thing about my KTM is I trimmed the stock, scratched wind screen on it and it now resides on my Husky. :bike:

The other point is that I had a chance to ride with a guy who entered the Dakar and finished as a privateer. You wouldn't believe what this guy could do on a 950 and 640, so when all is said and done, it's the rider more than the bike.

  5. Mirrors would look sweet on V11  ,hopefully you could tell a Corolla from a cop in them, unlike the V11's! :rasta:

Any word yet on if this model is coming to North America? I'd be inclined to go with the 800cc model if there is a big weight difference.

As for off roading, this bike would be confined to wide logging roads for me and just use pavement to join the logging roads together.

As for the comment on buying a KTM, I own a 950 and have never owned a used or new bike that has had so many problems. 2 days ago it left me stranded in the USA, 90 minutes from home. After my wife picked me up with the trailer in tow, we didn't get home until 1 am.

For more serious dirt work, I use my 610 Husky which is bullet proof. I will never buy a KTM again.

  6. Nice Quota, Gooz :mg:

Mine was red, had the ECU replaced, got 50mpg and I rode it through, California, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho,Alberta and BC. The only thing I didnt like about it was the old gearbox. I'd buy another one at the right price in a minute. It never let me down and I rode backroads alone in Montana with it.

Crashed it on a diesel spill on tarmac and the only thing that broke was the left spark plug lead. The handlebars are real off road bars because they didnt even bend and saved the bike from a lot of damage. Heavy? Yes, but not a problem on logging roads. I've got a KLX400 now which is great for the tough single track slimey crud.

I've owned 2 KLR650s in the past and for the money, they're good bikes. They're let down by thier antique suspension but a new rear shock and spring, fork brace and progressive springs help a lot. Especially the rear shock and spring, make a huge improvement. I'm looking for a DR650 now as they have way better suspension, especially the forks. The only thing you have to do to the rear is buy an Eaibach rear spring, the shock is good.

Dual Sporting is a hoot. Get on good terrain and the only limits are your own. No cops, traffic, pedestrians or lane markings :bier:

Here's an example. I took some pics of buddys when we rode the dunes in Oregon last Feb.

How not to do a jump :P:P:P

He had a big get off upon landing but no injuries to him or the bike.

  7. After reading unsolicisited comments and pictures of the boots after some horrendous crashes on a British forum, I went and bought these......

    http://www.oxtar-usa.com/products/tcs_evo_ti.htm

I really don't give a damn what they look like. I got mine on sale for $167 US, they're the most comfortable bike boots I've ever owned, which really surprised me, and you can feel the air go through them at speed.

One guy who recommended them, totalled his CBR954 at a track day and had no foot injuries even though the boots were wrecked. Another guy slid over 150 feet after crashing his bike and had to buy new boots, but the Oxtars saved him from ANY foot injuries.

  8. A change is as good as a rest.

I still haven't owned a Ducati yet so that's definitely in the future. Whether the Guzzi is used to help finance it is something I want to avoid but may have to do it.

  9. I hear Big Dave liked his pies and ale too!! :drink:

I had to laugh when I saw John McGuiness's logo on his wind screen though :drink:

Jeffries on a SuperMoto?? What pound springs did he use??

I've got some great racing action on DVD of Joey and Dave going at it a few years ago in I think it was Ireland :bier:

  10. Sorry Robbie but Sete went wide a Rossi took advantage of it, just like in the previous corner when Rossi went wide and Sete took the lead. The first rule of corners is the inside line rules. I have to wonder why no one has mentioned that Rossi was on the inside and therefore Sete should have backed off, not Rossi. If Sete had slowed and tightened his line into that corner so Rossi couldn't get under him he would have won the race, he didn't and he lost.

The worst thing about Rossi is he can beat almost everybody on the track and everybody in their head. I'm not Biaggi fan but his talent is obvious. Rossi has him pretty much destroyed him with mind games. How did Kevin Schwantz put it? "He doesn't just have his number, he has his home address". Rossi has just about got Sete in that position now. I truly hope Sete figures it out, nobody else can stay with Rossi these days.

I have no ax to grind, I am a fan of both racers. In this case Rossi did what winners do, he took what he was given and made the best of it. I hope next week Sete gets a chance to get him back.

Great start, I hope they keep it going to the US GP and the end of the year,  :P:

Like I said on another forum in regards to Rossi getting inside the heads of other riders, like the WHO said............."WHO's NEXT"?

I think that just maybe, Nicky H being a teamate for a couple of years has him immuned to the Rossi hex.

  11. Fortunately GW Bush and his minions ensure the natives are nicely malnourished to avoid these overloading problems. Hope you are grateful.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Well stated Goffredo. Cheers!

"kick Doohan's ass" Ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......give me a break

It sure is funny how when it's too late to prove, all these people saying the above.

So why the hell not me? OK. I could kick Doohan's ass!!

  13. Sete may not compete in the next race.

Well, I don't believe it. I think the team is trying to get into Rossi's head.

Rossi has destroyed Max's confidence and I think he's now working on Sete. If you have the opposing riders' confidence shaken, you've won most of the battle.

Doohan would play those games too.

  14. Yeah, Yeah ,Yeah,a130.gifa122.gife118.gif

I always thought that Guzzi engine sounds are reminished of propeler aircraft, especially those of WWII.Let us not forget what the Guzzi sign is.

When I first got the bike I drove to a friend of mine in Germany and after making one pass he looked and said"Flugzeug Motor" reffering both to the sound and look of the Guzzi.I guess he was right , that's also a definite fact that attracts me only to Guzzi.

Let's hear the simmilarities with a plane

And see for your self 100Guzzis passing in front of you at once,

Should I put this into the quiz? If , can you guess which plane is this passing?

    48225

:mg: Ya, that's what I immediately thought of. I'll bet all the British listeners were thinking the bombing of Britain had started again!!

Inline 4s can't really be compared to twins. My HaaaaaR1 with the Akropovic can makes a cool shreek at hig rpms. At low an mid range, it isn't loud at all, but like has been said, as soon as a twin or a single with a can starts up,I'm sure my blood pressure rises :food: The sound just MAKES you want to ride.

  15. Give it to Nicky Haden - he's probably talented / cocky enough to give Rossi a run for his money as he gets more experienced.

Being an ex-pat Australian, I was happy to see Troy Bayliss run 6th. I was lucky enough to have his father Stan run me around Oran Park Raceway in Sydney (back in the day) while he was trying out new monkeys (he was racing sidecars and kept losing passengers - referred to as monkeys). Two laps – one to warm up and one at ¾  race pace – I will NEVER do that again  :o .

    48413

Being a monkey is akin to committing suicide in my opinion.

Biaggi fans? Now I know who I can wind up on here :bbblll::P:D

I think the move was a "racing incident" and no one should be disciplined. It's not golf!!

Giberneau giving the wanking motion as he crossed the line showed an absolute lack of class. Not surprising as he's been a little rich kid all his life. I believe he is the heir to Bultaco.

  16. All,

I was either inspired or have gone completely crazy and made a set of Givi mounts for my Sport.

So now I have a set of the semi-soft Tekno bags and mounts I don't need. Anybody interested before I offer them to a wider audience?

They are in pretty good shape, just a bit of fading on the top but otherwise like new. They were $250 new, what are they worth at this point?

PM me a price you think is fair and I'll probably buy them.

  17. Lookswise yes, but take one for a ride and you will have a lot of fun! It is like the old CB 350 twins. It don't look like much and it don't go like much but it never scares or surprises you and it is just plain fun to ride!

    47448

Wonder if you slapped a winshield and soft bags on it, if it would make a good tourer?

  18. I take it this is in England?

At first I thought he was a nutter but I had to remind myself that an onboard camera set just above the top triple clamp is still low. Ever seen on board footage from a racing Kart? The lower the camera, the faster and scarier the footage looks.

But he did make some good decisions. btw, I retract and apologize for the, not riding with you guys comment.

  19. I know what you mean. I had a good look at the 750 version. Not inspired, not the same as the V11 at all.

    47423

Rumour has it that a local guy with a V11Sport sold it on consignment at the local Guzzi shop and purchased the 750Breva.

To each his own and all that, but I just can't understand the reasoning. :homer:
