  1. Hi all,

I'm looking for a good-quality photo of the Nero Corsa, Ballabio, Cafe Sport, or other bike's script on the back portion of the body work. I like that handwritten style--very elegant yet modern. I've perused a bunch of the photos here but never gotten one that seems right--too much glare or too far away.

By any chance, could some of you post shots of yours? I'd like to put my Norge's name on the body work in the same style.

  2. Apparently it was a faulty oil pump. Here's a snippet from an email to me:

"Faulty oil pump's don't make for happy engines. IMO, no excuse for a bike to be DOA with less than 10k miles, certainly not with a 5 digit price tag. As I stood on the side of the road with him I was once again reminded why I absolutely would not choose an exotic bike (basically a non-Jap) for distance riding. Being stuck on a disabled bike in nowhereville w/no dealer/parts support even remotely close (er, next state) is something I'll pass on. I've been in a major city w/a friend who had a flat tire on a V11 and the local Jap shops would/could change the tire even though they had a replacement in stock. I've been all over the US w/a BMW friend and we re-routed several time hundreds of miles to the "nearest" BMW shop even while we were in very populated places so that an issue he was having could be addressed (on a "new" bike to boot--eek). I'm by no means a brand blind rider (heck for me it really is about the journey and I really couldn't give a hoot about the bike!), but as far as my distance rides go, I'm very partial to bikes that don't leave me stranded, that have support "near" wherever I may go w/parts not on backorder, and that can roll high miles w/out major maintenance or catastrophes. Such terms tends to narrow down the choices considerably, huh?"

to each his own. I do know that she seriously considered a Norge, but opted for the FJR1300 because she's an admitted high miler but poor wrench. Eh...so it goes.

  3. I try to make it a point not to pay much attention to what women say unless it envolves food my dirty clothes or sex or money. I strongly suggest everyone does the same in this case. :mg:

Um, no, sorry--this woman Alexis is a rider's rider--ignore her perspicacity at your own peril! Lessee...Four Corners? check. Iron But Rally? check. Alaska & back? check. 50,000 miles a year? check.

Needless to say, she knows what she's talking about. My question simply was, is there anyone on this forum who owns the Coppa in question? Anyone know what happened?

  4. Sadly (for me, anyway), the CS at MPH is sold. :( And, yes, I was feeling a little...maybe tired isn't hte right word, but I've always loved the Ballabio/CS--alomost bought one when I went instead for the Breva 750 (which, btw, I loved--put 21K miles on it in 15 months).

Just broken in? I dunno...I think the high-mileage factor may be a pre-Piaggio/Aprilia thing. Still, I'm keeping the Dawn Treader for another while yet, anyhow. Now, if I could add to the stable...

  5. Hi all,

thinking about possibly selling my 24,000-mile 2006 Breva & picking up a waaay low mileage 2004 Cafe Sport. Pros? Cons?

My riding style: Lots of miles a year--at least 10-15K. Longest day on the B1100? 500 miles. Longest day ever? 680 miles on my Breva 750. Normal day? 250-450 miles.

Like to run heated gloves, vest, and MotoLights. Problems?

    Anyway, just a thought....always loved the Ballabio/CS

  6. warmnsafe.com seems to be having web problems. I have the Widder gloves & vest. The vest works great. The gloves, otoh, don't. too bulky, too. I might consider the Gerbings....

  7. I think its neither- looks like one of the last batch of V11 Sports. Nice bike though.

You-re right. On second inspection, it's got clipons, no Ohlins that I can tell, and no carbon fiber bits like the CS. But a sweet-lookin' bike.

  8. Press Release from Steelhorse Classics:

    =====

MOTO GUZZI DEMO DAY at STEELHORSE CLASSICS

WILL TAKE PLACE SATURDAY, AUGUST 25, AS PLANNED

    ** IMPORTANT UPDATE **

This past Sunday (8/19/07) the national Moto Guzzi tractor trailer and entire demo motorcycle fleet were destroyed during very serious floods, mudslides, and treacherous conditions in Minnesota. The Moto Guzzi demo truck and crew were making an appearance at the Annual Moto Guzzi National Owners’ Club Rally in Houston, Minnesota when the natural disaster occurred.

Since the demo truck and cycles were scheduled to appear in Williamsburg, VA during Steelhorse Classics’ Demo Day this Saturday, August 25, Steelhorse Classics is pleased to announce that the Demo Day will take place this Saturday as scheduled from 9 am to 5 pm.

The Piaggio Group Americas corporate office and other involved individuals have quickly arranged to have seven Moto Guzzi demo cycles shipped to Steelhorse Classics in time for this event, bringing the total to eight cycles available for test rides. Steelhorse Classics wishes to thank Piaggio and all related parties who have scrambled on extremely short notice and worked very hard to create an alternative plan so that our customers will still be able to enjoy Moto Guzzi Demo Day in Williamsburg.

To Our Customers: Originally on the truck there would have been 16 demo bikes for our event. Now with eight demo bikes, we will “adapt and overcome” to insure that as many people as possible have an opportunity to ride and enjoy their models of choice. We likely will need to shorten the rides a bit (previously scheduled for 40 minutes) in order to accommodate everyone so we appreciate everyone’s understanding and flexibility during our “revamped” Moto Guzzi Demo Day.

Thank you in advance and we look forward to a fun-filled and successful event this Saturday, August 25!

  9. I am moving to western North Carolina; can someone vouch for or recommend a good/great Moto Guzzi dealer in the Asheville area? Actually anywhere from Asheville to Greenville, South Carolina.

Myers in Asheville is great as far as workign on pre-2006 Guzzis--they're no longer a dealer, which means they don't do warranty work or Axone-only work. but they have a great rep.

Union Cycles southeast of Charlotte has a great rep, though a lot of that was because Shelby Canard (sp?) was there.

  10. ...I'm heading to the adirondacks this summer for a short 4/5 day tour :pic: and I've heard that its safer, for the bike at least, to join rally participants at campsites....

I'm not sure I understand the safety angle. Is there a hazard in the Northeast that motorcyclists need to be aware of? Are we talking about theft, assault, or critters?

    Confused.... :

  11. Looks like we'll miss you by just a few days as we'll be just across the mountain in Sweewater June 8-10. So far just a few of us.

There is good word coming out of the Tennessee Highway Patrol that the new commander for that region is determined to stop the excesses on US 129. Apparently the strategy is to call 20 mph over the speed limit "reckless driving" which is an arrest and impound offense.

    Ride well, docc

Actually, that Deal's Gap thing is an Internet hoax that the THP itself has debunked. Ride appropriately, ride legally, and you're fine. In VA, 20 mph and more over the speed limit is reckless driving--so 55 in a 35mph zone is a big, big deal. Too, 80mph and more is reckless...so 80 mph in a 65 or a 70 zone is also reckless drving.

That said, you should really consider the VA Guzzi rally in Buena Vista, VA (just east of Lexington) June 22-24, 2007. It's the 25th anniversary of this great rally, so maybe you can put it on your list.

A few fellas & I are driving to the AR rally the weekend before, then making our way across TN to meet up in Buena Vista.
