  1. I have experienced two gear box related problems on my 2002 Le Mans:

    1. Pall spring - I managed to jag one gear, 5th I think and limp home 5km. it would not always engage, it took several attempts

    2. a few weeks after the pall spring was replaced ($5 that cost $100 to fixmg.gif ), I had trouble selecting gears again. I thought it was pall spring again, but it turned out the gear linkage jammed and needed to be tweaked out the bind and some lubricant sprayed on the joints. I have been told joint lubing is required regularly so I do it and no problems again.

    I hope this helps. 2c.gif

  2. I have owned my '03 Lemans RC for a couple thousand miles now. Nearing 20K I decided to check the valves. Following directions here I believe I am doing the procedure correctly. I can see the piston top through the spark plug hole confirming TDC but I can't 'spin' the pushrods. Also things seem way too tight. I could set the intake to .006 on the right side but I can't even get my smallest feeler into the exhaust side fully with the adjuster backed out. The other side is similarly tight. The bike has been parked for days so I know it's cold. Does it sound like I am doing something obviously wrong?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Maybe you're not on the compression stroke?? That's what I'd check first...

    Mike

Correct, the piston needs to be on its way up on compression. Mark, let us know if after checking it is on compression you still have the same problem. It is possible you wont, because if they are that tight with valves closed, you start to get electrical problems - valves hit pistons, causing part of the internal components to fly out the side and dislodge the starter motor. rolleyes.gif

  3. No ! You're kidding........

I use a Ford / Motorcraft XG-12 . It is used to aid in the sealing and protecting contact points. There also is a product called Stabilant 22. It will aid in contact points of electrical connections.

This is a definition for the word dielectric...........http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dielectric

Make sure you want dielectric grease where it is supposed to be....

i have a 2002 Le Mans. I have had trouble with idle, starting after a medium / long ride for a couple of years now, and the other evening it began running on one cylinder, then died all together at home that night. Flat tow to Tom Newells (Brisbane) to be advised the relays were U/S. I had swapped them around the previous night, but the trick is, ECU and Fuel Pump relays are in series, so if one is not working then none of them are working, obviously I was not jagging the right swapping combinations.

On Tom's advice, I replaced them the next morning with after market units, but will be using his recommended General Motors (Holden) sealed units when they open after New Year. Also note Bosch part number on other blogs - 0 332 207 307.

It starts first time now and have not had any embarrassing non start moments of the past, usually in front of a coffee shop full of Jappers and Harley ridersblush.gif

I am replacing the alternator regulator rectifier this week as well, I don't want to take that chance on the side of the road. xmas.gif

  4. I think that one of the main reasons why people have problems doing this is that they are trying to do it whist there is still pressure in the hose which will lock the fitting in place.

Well done Haydn, at last a video of a common question asked :drink:

Thank the Lord and thank you Haydn! Great Video. I am guessing that running the bike relieves fuel pressure in the line. I have had my 2002 V11 since new and have attempted this several times, experiencing the frustration expressed by others. Each time I just sent it to the Mechanic for service / repair. :notworthy:

  5. V11 Le Mans

Can anybody advise experience or tips on suspension adjustment. Suspension feedback on rougher back roads can be quite harsh, from both front and rear suspension. I have adjusted both to almost the softest setting but still not as comfy as my ducati with ohlins.

I have also asked the Australian Ohlins distributor if Ohlins are available for the 2002 Le Mans, however no luck.

Thanks in advance for any advice
