Doesn't that go along with living in the Bay Area anyway?

Sorry your bike's been so much trouble...hopefully you get her sorted soon.

My transmission locked up after a mechanic applied the recall fix on my 2000 V11 sport. When He put it back together he didn't put a circlip on correctly, it broke. The shifter shaft feel out at about 70+ mph.

It was very exciting when I downshifted.:helmet:

I had the tranny warranty work done to my 00 V11 sport. Replace a couple of pieces to prevent a transmission lockup. I had all the springs replaced while they were in there. When I got the bike back the neutral indicator light would come on randomly. Turns out a clip had broken that holds a shifter cam onto a pressed fit shaft on the cover. While I was riding out in western MA on Tuesday I noticed transmission oil leaking from the shaft, so I kept an eye on it and headed home, stopping 5-6 times to check it. On the Mass Pike at around 75 MPH the shaft fell out of the case onto the road. I happened to look in the mirror and see smoke billowing out the back. I knew I blew a seal or something and the rear tire would be soaked with oil. I slowly pulled into the breakdown lane. I used the front brake to slow down to about 50 and downshifted, not realizing the shifter cam had fallen into the tranny. BOOM and a nice controlled rear wheel lockup for about 150 ft...

  2. 2000 V11

Rear tire should drop a size to 160/60 17 . The 170/60 that comes on the bike is too big for the wheel. The tire ends up with a profile that has a point at the peak. Always feels like thee bike is falling into corners. The smaller size gives a round profile. This was fixed with a wider wheel in later models.

What also imroves handling of that year is dropping the front end 3/8 - 1/2 in. Loosen the triple tree and slide shock up even on both sides. The change is noticable.

    Check out www.guzzitech.com site.

Check to make sure the seimens relays have been replaced. They were underated and failed. Again www.guzzitech.com site

    Get rid of electric petcock!

Moto International used to sell barends ffor this bike. Using them and CRG mirrors eliminates handle bar vibrations. Great fix.

  3. It's more insulation than reflection. The stuff I used is really thick fiberglass weave covered with a flame proof coating. I don't think you'd find a better insulator from ambient heat.

As Al says, it slides on in a couple of minutes and really should be the first attempt at solving the problem. It's been successful for me so far.

I too have run into a vapor locking condition. After reading these posts I can only think of one thing that has changed in the last several years. The fuel is getting blended with more and more ethanol. Could this be the issue? Maybe. <_ the boiling point is lower>

This is causing all sorts of other issues with my other machines. Specifically water in the float bowls of the carbs.

I will try the insulated hose and relocating the fuel pump.

    Thanks Tom

  4. Anyone ever figure out this problem.

After bringing out the bike for the season I have this issue whre the bike stuters and stumbles during acceleration.

I have new gas, mechanical petcock, new relays, PC, mistarl cans, k&n in stock airbox. This just started hapenning. <_>

I had a lose conection under the tank (kill switchwires) Fixed those over the winter.

Funny thing is last night I rode the hell out of it with no issues. Today it started stumblng after 2 miles.

It almost feels electrical in nature

    Where should I start?

That is one heck of a project house.

There is a Guzzi Rally in Virginia end of June in Buena Vista.

That is where you can connect with the Guzzi crew.

Sorry to here about the contract gig ending. I'm in the same boat.

I rebuilt a victorian while working contract. Makes life interesting when your no sure where

the $$$ is going to come from nex month. But you will survive.

As far as the bike Keep It. You won' get enough for it. Then when you want one you won't have the $$$$

    Good Luck

    RELAYS

Don't dink around. Replace all the relays. I sent you a link from the www.Guzzitech.com site

Search for relays on the main page. This is a known issue.

Hope to see you on the road soon

I had my V11 Sport Transmission apart. The transmission was leaking from the seams from the last 4 times the hack mechanic had it apart.

There were a few things wrong that I found as well. But I'll skip that and cut to the point.

There are four locknuts & lockwashers in the V11 Sport Transmission. They hold the shafts against the bearings and the clutch spline on the main shaft. I replaced them. Sourcing from Guzzi would take too long. After talking with Mark Etheridge he gave me a size for the Eldo 5 speed. That is where my search began.

I finally got a set from Eastern Bearing supply. BUT that took a week. I decided to find a quicker source. Here is what I found.

All Loop, Tonti and Spline frame transmissions use locknuts and lockwashers. I found the manufacturer of locknuts and lock washers in Central Falls,Rhode Island. They will ship same day and the cost is about $2 each

    The company website is

    http://www.whittet-higgins.com/

    Locknuts (metric) are

    http://www.whittet-higgins.com/part.php?series_id=43

V11 Sport - There are (2) KM 3 locknuts in the transmission

V11 Sport - There is (1) KM 4 locknut in the transmission

V11 Sport - The clutch spline locknut is size KM 5

    Lock washers (metric) are

    http://www.whittet-higgins.com/part.php?series_id=50

Match the lockwasher to the locknut size.

Whittet-Higgins also sells TOOLS Spanners, Sockets AND Thread Repair dies!!!!!!!

    http://www.whittet-higgins.com/part.php?series_id=76

    http://www.whittet-higgins.com/part.php?series_id=79

Not sure of the Loop or Tonti size for the clutch spline. I believe it is a KM 3.

  9. I have the same leak issues after the recall fix. I couldn't take the gear oil burning on the exhaust anymore. The mechanic taking the transmission out again and causing more damage all over with nicks and scratches was too much for me to bear.

I have to reseal all the trans cases. Each one of them leaks. I believe he didn't wait long enough for the sealant toset before putting in the oil AND didn't clean the surfaces. The Yamabond never bonded.

    Tom :bike:

So, I finally got the bike together.

The leak is 70 - 90% better ( I popped the back cover off, and tightened all allen heads I could find.)

I had set the adjuster screw to balance the ratchet right in between upshift failure and downshift failure. The result is flawless up-shifts, but down-shifts  are a little dodgy if I don't go through the gears. The reason, I surmise, is that the weight of the shift lever is pushing the ratchet in the direction of a down-shift so that the ratchet does not always engage after a down-shift.

It looks like I will be following Ouiji's lead and adjusting blindly with a closed box. (the other solution would be to put a counter weight to neutralize the weight ot the lever.

I now have a pretty good idea how it works, so I am confident that it will shift better than ever! :D

  10. That is the spacer for a toni frame bike.  Goes between rim and disk brake brace on the rear.

    Thanks

Too many parts lying around in cans. At 1 time I had 4 bikes a part...all Guzzis.

    :)

  11. Thanks Tom. Oddly enough, this washer is HUGE! It doesn't fit anywhere on the bike that I can discern, yet it turned up in the box of V11 Sport parts while I had the bike apart. The ID is nearly a centimeter larger than OD of the axle. The washer didn't fit in the steering head either (the whole bike was apart). It is now in a box somewhere in storage. Just one of those mystery parts I suppose.

When you have the rear wheel off check the bearing on the drive side. It usually needs grease. It is a two piece torrington bearing. torrington part # hk2516 2rs and the inner race is 20 X 25 X 17 (that is the size in mm) the part number on this box is 21245 IR20X25X17 from a company called INA

Total cost from bearing specialty in Worcester, MA is $16.60

From Guzzi it is close to $75

  12. HI all

I'm see that there are lots of excellent engineers and mechanics on the list. I'm am making a set of stainless brake lines for a modified Guzzi project. I using Earl's brake parts and I'm having a hell of time :homer: getting these brake lines to seal. Has anyone made these before? Is there a trick to doing this?

    Any info greatly appreciated.

    Tom

  13. I've got an Eldo...been inside it a number of times, and I've never seen a part like that.  I don't think it's an Eldo part.

The shoulder makes it look like a locating washer... How big is it (inner diameter/outer diameter)?

    J

    48550

The inner diameter is the same as the axle. The outer diameter is the same as the rear wheel bearing.

It is not on the parts diagram at all. WTF is this thing?? :huh2:

  14. No photos are available

Sorry, th_01 has not enabled any public albums in their account.

O wait second try, let me see the spacer, that's  not from a v11 as far as I know.

Don't forget the ring/spacer between wheel and reardrive, otherwwise the wheel isn't centered.

A big flat washer is between the reardrive swingarm, keeping the needlebearing on it's place.

    48471

    Paul

The ring spacer you are talking about is a barrel shape correct? I know where that goes. I am working on an Eldorado also So maybe it is an Eldo part?

    Tom

    Carl

The large flat washer goes in one or two places. One is one the outside of the right side (drive shaft side) of rear drive. It issupposed to block junk from getting into the neede bearing.

The other is on te INSIDE of the rear drive. Unless you have had your drive apart you wouldn't see it.

    Tom

  15. :o

Anyone replace their clutch while they were in there working on the tranny recall?

I am thinking of replacing the clutch while I have the tranny out. I've got 26K on the bike. Any thoughts?

Is there a bonded clutch available for the 00 V11 Sport?

    Tom :nerd:

  16. The recall is from the NHTSA. So there is NO time limit. MG is liable for any dmamge, death etc. if they don'tfix this issue ASAP.There is a time limit for them to notify you of the problem. My advice is don't wait call your dealer. The parts will have to ordered and repairs scheduled. It could take months.

    Backlash:

I remember reading either on guzzitech.com or the mgcl list that someone re-shimmed their tranny to minimize the backlash with some success.

  17. I took my 00 V11 Sport on a 12000 mile trip over 4 1/2 weeks a coupleofyears ago. I had absolutely no problems. I went through 3 sets of tires. I changed the oils at 5000 mile intervals.

I run synthetic oil all around with moly in the trans and rearend. The riding was hard and fast. I carried about 75lbs in luggage.

The bike performed great. Out in the southwest US I ran the bike at 80-100 MPH

for hours on beautiful roadways. The bike was very comfortable. After the odometer hit 5000 miles it really opened up.

I rode through 3 days of continuos rain when I headed back East. The bike didn't even hicup.

    Tom :bike:

  18. Recently I've read aboutV11 owners that have replaced the the tach/speedo lights with LEDs (blue, orange) .Does anyone have any infoon how todothis?

Also someone replaced the directional indicator with a pair LEDs where the left blinks with the left and the right blinks with the right.

    How did they do this?

    Tom ;)

  19. Hi

My 00 V11 had false neutrals from the beginning, despite what the dealer told me. So I added some moly , replaced the oil and just rode it. My foot has become accustom having to completely lifting my toe to catch the gear.

If it in't broke don't fix it.

    Tom
