  1. welcome to Guzzi ownership!

Previous owner said it ran fine.....why is it that when you buy a used bike and you finally get it home...not a day later something goes wrong? Ah well, nothing that about $1,000.00 can't fix...... :P

You'll get it sorted and all will be fine..... :)

  2. Hi Shaun,

I was in your shoes back in Dec. I went for it, and despite some initial investment in sorting some things out, I would still do it again. I paid $4,800 for mine. Immediately, it needed new tires....then the speedo went, engine needed some fine tuning, then the speedo cable went.....about $1,000 dollars later of which I anticipated, the bike runs beautifully...I love it more and more every day. You will too....

Mine is a V11sport, naked '01, had 14,400 miles on it when I bought it. You can use the serial number on the bike to check if the recall was done. The local Guzzi dealer checked it out for me. It was done on mine. Harper's would probably also check for you.

Be safe, make it back in one piece and buy the bike...you won't regret it.

  3. I understand the need to chug the chardonnay, to stay cool but the huffing?

Huffing is for suckers! There are better things to inhale than airplane glue, spray paint, and gasoline!!! :rasta:

I have friends that actually like the "It's a small world" ride at Dizney land....as I said, huffing is for suckers, and huffing is the only explanation I can up with for their taste in entertainment :oldgit:

Do you know about making sure fuel lines aren't contacting engine, and some of the other solutions???

    Stay cool! B)

My paper bag is blown....no more glue for me tonight....:)

And yes, thank you.....I have read some past posts and plan on taking this up with my mechanic. For what it's worth, I did jiggle the fuel line, but for me, that's akin to kicking the tires and raising the hood on my car if it won't start....yeah, I'm so not mechanically inclined....

    But, I'm learning.....

  4. one that I was hoping I didn't belong to. The world of vapor lock on a hot day.... :bbblll:

To enlighten those that are unaware of the extreme temps. in the Sonoran desert.....last Tuesday was overcast and windy...one single day and it got no higher than 70 degrees. Less than a week later finds Monday arriving with 100 degree afternoon. Damn, bad day to wear the black leather jacket.... B) And I can tell you, after 14 years here, the first blast of May heat is still a shock.

On my way home from work, I decide to swing by the grocery store and treat myself to a bottle of cold, California, chardonnay. I pictured myself gazing at my backyard (from indoors)...lounging and listening to some chill tunes. NICE, I say.

I stop, get my goods, saunter out to the Guzzi. No deal, no start. From all the threads I've read recently, I figured I too, was a victim. Since I knew it required some waiting.....I waited. With sweat pouring down my back and yes, down the butt crack...uggg, none to sexy.... :moon:

Even my eyeballs were sweating. I only unzipped the jacket, as trying to wriggle out of a snug, wet jacket and soaked helmet, just didn't sound appealing. The chard was warming up and I was getting antsy. FINALLY, after some chugging and huffing, she started and I zoomed home.

It took a few long minutes to peel out of my gear and catch my breathe. As I did, and....I kid you not, the ice cream truck came cruising down the street...blasting the tune of..."It's a small world" (every night, like clockwork, he does this)........:glare:

I dashed inside, tossed the chard in the freezer, waited about 20 minutes and am now, thankfully, enjoying some liquid vine and telling my tale of life on my beloved belle verde.... :drink:

Cheers to all....and to hoping we all soon get our vapor lock issues sorted out.

    Nancy

ps. what's worse, that @#$% song keeps repeating in my heat-addled brain.. :vomit:

  5. I took a ride up to the Arizona State Moto Guzzi Rally in Prescott a couple of Saturdays ago. Let me tell you, that the ride couldn't have been more perfect!

I left my house in Buckeye and headed west on the freeway and got myself on Vulture Mine Rd. which takes me past the store into Wickenburg. I'm usually on this road during the week and pretty much always have it to myself, so it was no big deal being on it alone that day.

Next I got on 89 towards Yarnell and again, I basically had the road to myself. Traffic was very light and never really interrupted me through the twisties. Also, the local constabulary was nowhere to be found.

The section of 89 that leads into Prescott is one of the best sections of road I've ever been on. It's neck and neck with the road Alice's Restaurant is on near San Jose, CA. For the first few miles of twisties, I was alone. Then I came up to a group of cruisers going pretty slow. The all moved over and waived me past! Never in my years of riding on twisty roads has this happened! Now I know how Moses felt when he parted the Red Sea! The next bunch of miles were loaded with hairpins and switchbacks with no one in front of me and no one behind.

When I got to the rally site, I hooked up with my friend Nolan Woodbury and chit chatted bikes for hours including a tour of a lot of vintage Guzzis as Nolan let me in on the history of what's been done to it and by whom. You can check out Nolan's vintage motorcycle consulting website @ www.vintagemotorcyclesonline.com.

The ride home on I-17, Loop 101 and I-10 were uneventful, but I don't know if I could have handled the ride home had it been like the ride to Prescott.

Though lightning never strikes twice, I'll be praying it does the next time I go for ride in the twisties!

    Hey there,

I was at the rally...the chick with the OTHER green meanie v11 sport (not in the competition). Don't know if we chatted, but for the time that I spent at the camp, I have to say, I met some great folks and had fun!

I know the ride you speak of. On Saturday, I headed out by myself...was going to hit Wickenburg, but at the last second, I swerved towards Skull Valley, which eventually took me to Bagdad....Add this road to your list of amazing rides! Please, do yourself a favor and check it out. I think I saw 4 cars all day. Awesome twisties, views...WOW. Took 89 back into Prescott and nearly grinned myself to death. So glad to hear a fellow Guzzi rider enjoyed the ride!

  6. Shemale "NOT"my riding buddys already give me heck when i shave my legs in the summer to ride my bi'cycle, most of them ride cruisers so i get to ride with them because it's not Jap Crap, they've given me a new name,Stuarti Sullvarni,as opposed to stuart sullivan.

My other rides are a 92 Suzuki GSX 1100 G,same inline four motor as the big GSXRs but tuned for torque and with shaft drive, sort of sport tourerish,it's a real rocket ship, scare the pants off my cruiser buds, did'nt sell well in North America but has quite a cult following now,i'm in there forum to,gsx1100g@yahoogroupes.com,good bunch of people.

They thought i'd gone over to the Dark side when i told them i was purchasing a Guzzi,my other ride is a 1982 Yamaha XJ 650RJ SECA,shaft drive also,it's being updated right now, always liked the VFR was something i wanted to own also,if i was J Leno i'd have one of everything, are you asleep yet,you take care.

    Cheers Stu.

wow...cool bike...reminds me of mad max...if only it were black with some side-mounted death rays....:)

Love that you shave yer legs...I think cyclists have some of the best looking legs as far as sports goes. I've been cycling just about my whole life..used to race triathlons in college and after...got turned on to mountain biking in 1987 (yeah, way back then)....that's really my other 2-wheel obsession.....

The road riding in Canada must be wonderful!

  7. Hi Nan welcome, seems you went through the same process i went through when i saw mine on Craiges list and knew i just had to have it,can you say love at first site, and i already have two other bikes.

i'm new to this site to,got my 92 V11 LeMans in Feb from Vancouver up here in the Great white North, looking at your pictures thats what i call biking weather, christ i'm still wearing my electric vest up here 500miles north of Vancouver,Grin and bear.

You've got all the mechanical expertise'from everybody allready so no need to go there,i'm not that way inclined any way,oil change ,spark plugs, blah blah, thought your come back was quite good when nobody welcomed you to the Forum,i also did'nt get to many bites, though i did post on the Polforum"Idiot",maybe i should have changed my gender.

Anyway enjoy,i'm loving mine, they are right about one thing this bike has oodle's of char'acter even if i'm freezing my Kulyackaki's off.

    Stu.

PS tire size, mines got a 180/55.17 on the rear is this normal?anyone!

    Hey Stu,

Glad you are lovin your new bike...what other bikes are collecting dust in your garage..? :o

Here's an official warm welcome to V11lemans...a great site for sure, learned a lot and can be entertaining at times. And yeah, you could pose as a shemale for awhile..that might get their attention... :P

  8. Hi Nanc,

She's an 02.I liked the black wheeled models,02-03.The black and silver models are sweet too.If you think your gonna do trips, keep and eye on the classified section here as a MG accessory item was soft side bags with a metal bracket, which wont scratch your side panels.Hepco and Becker made a hard bag set for the V11,and a trunk but are expensive and getting harder to find.I tried the soft bags for years on my 95 VFR ,but found no matter how careful I was, they always marred or scratched the plastic.I have a set of 5 stars mounts with Krauser bags on the VTEC and the mounts come off in about 5 mins, leaving the bike looking like the picture. That's another pet peeve of mine of the stock and most other hard-bag set-ups as they leave all the ugly hardware exposed.Been thinking about how I could fabricate a quick release mount for the V11,....

70 degrees and perfect sun today, gonna go squeeze into the leathers and :race: whohoo,...!

Don't sell the VFR yet as days like this you'll be looking at how beautiful the Guzzi is as she sits in the garage while yer waiting on parts,...

Yeah, I will probably keep her...she is purty and incredibly reliable...

My Guzzi came with hardbags and the brackets..all attached. I removed everything as I wanted the bike "clean" for awhile. Don't know if I will end up putting them back on? For both bikes, I have found the Cortech system to work flawlessly and perfectly. Once I figured out where to strap them down on the VFR, they didn't move. I wrap soft cloths around any exposed tiedown that sits on a surface...no scratches yet on either bike. Not into paying over $1,000 bucks for hardbags!

  9. Hey Nan...

    Glad your diggin' the Guzzi.

Those photo's are very enticing. Corners you can see around.

I love that. Here in New England it's pretty much a keep your fingers

crossed and give the yellow line lots of respect.

I'm busy getting the boat ready for the season and was just thinking...

we get June July and Aug and it's time to start thinking about the "off season"

again. Could you loan me a couple of months?

I'll loan you a couple months....hmmm.....I would be loved and adored if I could rid Tucson of say....July and August. Oh wait, we do have the monsoon season in July...so how about August and September... 110 gets old real quick!

Love yer backyard though...I've always wanted to ride in your area of the country....a fall trip to Vermont for the leaves...New England quaintness....regional food and beverages. What months will you trade ME for?

And yeah, many of the roads here are real sweepers...big fun. Since we all love photos so much, here's an incredible view of Northern AZ, near Springerville. Usually at that time of year (early fall) the meadows and hills are dried grasses....so much rain brought an incredible New Zealandesque appeal to the landscape.

BTW, have you ridden "the dragon" on the Guzzi?

    Northen_AZ.jpg

  10. Hmm I remember running some ah-sum roads around Prescott when I went X -country a couple of years ago.Don't remember the Rt #'s,but always thought AZ was up there in the states with the best stuff

Been riding the VFR the last couple of weeks as the Scura's down with blown rear wheel bearings at 14 k :homer:" Stupid Luigi" ,and almost forgot how sweet a ride she is.Not to bad a looking gal either!

Lucky you....I'm hoping for a similar type of trip down the road...(literally..... :P ) And yes, AZ is blessed with incredible roads and diverse scenery.

Here are a couple pics of a ride I did in the fall in Northern AZ...went to the petrified forest and painted desert. Not a single highway....stayed in a yurt in Lyman Lake State park...one of my most memorable getaways....finding the espresso stand along the way and meeting the owner (quite a character), was fun....far beyond anything Starbucks brews... :nerd:

Always liked the VFR in red...what year?

    VFR_trip.jpg

  11. IIRC the first year for the full fairing Lemans was 2002. Same for the Scura. In 2001 you could get the Rosso Mandello with that fairing (limited to 300), but definitely not the greenies. At least here in Canada I'm not aware of any 2001 Lemans other than RM. Was the RM also a short frame or the later 2002 frame/body?

Welcome aboard Nanc! Hope you are enjoying that mean greenie! We tend to drive the women away fairly quickly here... I'll wait 6 mos before I hit on you ;)

I am totally CRAZY about the "Bella Verde"... B)

I took a 3-day trip to a small rally in Prescott, AZ. Backroads all the way, simply amazing...handles the curves so well. In addition, I have a daily commute through the Sonoran desert, so I'm truly experiencing so many different levels of enjoyment with the bike. Wherever I arrive, I'm always grinning from ear to ear....

I have to admit that the VFR is collecting dust, although I do start her up once a week. I'm keeping her for now, unsure about the future with her though???

    And yes, she is a 2001 V11 Sport....here's a photo...

    bella_verde.jpg

  12. hey Crazed I hope to see you there.

Anyone else going to the rally?

    Hey there,

A few folks from Tucson. Leaving tomorrow around 7:00.

However, at this point, I just might be riding my VFR. Sucks.

I just got a complete set of GEI relays, as a precaution as I still have the originals. Switched them out and am now having a host of electrical problems.

Blew a fuse, put originals back in and now headlight is defunct. Bummer, this bike is bumming me!

    Regardless.....see ya there!

  13. CURRENTLY OWNED:

    1. 2001 V11 Moto Guzzi sport (green goddess)

    2. 2006 Honda Interceptor, VFR 800 (Batgurl)

    3. 1973 Suzuki GT380 (1970's tomato red)

    non-motorized 2 wheels...

    1. Specialized FS Stumpjumper (seen her share of the Southwest, in addition to Colorado, Utah, California and Texas)

    2. Specialized S-works hardtail ( seen more than her fair share of the Southwest, in addition to Colorado, Utah, California and Texas)

    3. DeRosa road bike (seen her share of 3-day tours and back country cruises)

    4. Shizzle stretched cruiser...wheelbarrow handle bars, single speed....all about the chill....

  14. Nope a little to far from home but we are going to laconia this year.

I've always wanted to go to that event.

    Have you been before?

BTW, I noticed awhile ago you had a couple green windscreens for sale...do you still? And, how effective are they really?

    Thanks!

  15. Hi all,

Thought I would do a quick post up on this. I'm leaving Friday from Tucson with a couple friends. No highways, all backroads.... :bier:

I'm so excited....this is my first overnighter trip out of town since I got the bike. Seems most of the bugaboos have been sorted out, and I'm ready to roll. 4 days of fun n sun....oh yeah, suds and red wine as well.

BTW, the cool thing about this inaugural ride is......one of the guys is the owner of the bike that I initially lusted after so many years ago. We became friends and he let me ride the Guzzi. Many years passed though till we saw each other again. At any rate, I finally manifested my dream and have my own mean greenie in my garage. How fitting that he will be on the ride with me.... :helmet:

BTW, if any of you saw the photos of the tidal wave at the Minnesota rally, his was the much published V11 (green) with the water in the headlight and the sad ones of it lying on it's side......

Will post photos and hopefully a good story (or three), upon my return.

  16. Just to update everyone.....

My mechanic found the problem.....bulb in speedo....broken base, loose wire. He fixed that up...works just fine.

HOWEVER, on my way home.....no speedo...no worko :bbblll:

We just installed a new cable about 2 weeks ago....could the damn thing have broken already????

I really love the ride, love the bike.... :race: , but this crap is driving me crazy.... <_>

  17. Yes - dpn't forget Mountain Biking.......although, mountains are far and few since moving to Florida.

    B)

    Bob

    SWEET RIDE!!!!!!

Never saw a Klein that color...very nice! Can't imagine the mt. biking is that great in Florida....maybe some fun bike paths and eye candy though.... B)

  18. yes that can be related with mounting new lights, maybe they make a short circuit somewhere. 20 $ for a few fuses? they cost cents each.

oh...the 20 bucks is for a little kit...7 fuses each, a little tool to test and remove....at any rate, they didn't have it.....just an fyi 80 cents apiece at ace!

  19. Don't despair. Yes, you can get fuses at any auto parts store. Something caused it though. Something as simple as a faulty bulb or maybe the mechanic popped it during his work and didn't notice. they usually come in a box of five or so, so you'll have spares. (get the same amperage, they're color coded) If you replace it and it doesn't blow instantly check that all the bulbs work and you should be fine.

thanks Dan...just checked online and I can get a nice little kit for about 20 bucks. You may be right about the bump....see, I had both the front and rear turn signals replaced with some swank little little lights, short stalks...looks great and really cleaned up both ends....seems these things could be related?

  20. Anything...... replace it..ride it today and see what happens. By the way, have you washed the bike? Also buy a fuse assortment and make sure it a name brand,e.g. "BUSS" . Make sure you have extras with you or on the bike. These fuses are color coded so you won't have to spend time guessing amperage ratings!

Yep, I tried one of the other 5's and that is the problem. I haven't washed the bike since I first bought it and that was well over a month ago. No rain either.

Thanks for the response....think I will call ACE hardware and see if they have some...
