hello all -
i have a 2004 ballabio that has been trouble-free since i purchased it used in 2009. coming up on 22k, it's been sitting a lot recently but performing just fine when i take it out, until yesterday...
started fine, pulled away fine and then simply would not get out of 1st gear, either running & moving, standing still or with the engine off. last time i rode it (2 weeks ago?) it shifted without incident and nothing happened in the meantime other than it sitting in the corner of the garage.
i rode it, in first, at 20mph, across town to my local garage (eurogeek in flagstaff, az) where the my mechanista also could not find anything obviously wrong; we looked at the owner's manual PDF together and he's planning on opening up the transmission to see what's what, but i thought i'd post here to see if anyone has any guidance that might save us a lot of time.
any tips, suggestions, warnings or prayers welcome.
thank you.

very nice jacket, vintage cut, but too small for me.
feel free to PM me with any questions

i have no idea what you are talking about.
i will say, tho, that my over the winter mods deserve a longer road-tested review...
1. rich maund seat: major improvement over stock
2. motratech peg lowering kit: very significant to my 6'3" frame and long legs
3. stock peg hangers for my titanium cans: more clearance for my soft bags and frankly, a cleaner line. i truly wonder what the point of the shorter hangers is

if so, i would be interested in your feedback as i'm thinking of adding it for peace of mind purposes.
thx.

got 'em from woody. thanks.

i've got a 2004 ballabio for which i would like to lower the guzzi titanium cans to make more a little more room for my soft bags (which currently sit on the cans) and for a more comfortable leg/foot position for my occasional pillion rider.
here's a pic that shows my current configuration:
let me know if you have the set in question, either via PM or email me at dwidmark at gmail dot com.
thanks

the current link for the omron relays is http://www.motratech.com/Motratech/MGRC20.html
the one above is apparently outdated...

Have fun, but best keep a keen weather eye peeled, my friend.
thx for the words to the wise, amigo. they shall be heeded. and i'll post a ride report upon my return.

Congrat's and welcome, GA. Nice choice.
Just my take, but unless you're a well-conditioned, iron-butted pavement pounder, best take it easy on your delivery ride, and not attempt it in one shot. Any way you go, there are some pretty long, hard miles between the Bay Area and Flagstaff. Ideally, you'll be taking at least 2 days by one of the many slightly longer scenic routes? If you haven't been there this time o' year, and if you can manage to stay ahead of the first snow in the passes (that'll be a day by day call late this month!), Lake Tahoe by way of Hwy. 50 is a great ride (tourist season is over) and 395 would be incredibly scenic, though the long stretch between Lone Pine and Needles is as monotonous as it gets. But o' course you more'n likely know that part.
thx, ratchet -
i'm gonna give myself a couple of days to get home and every intention of enjoying the ride. i know 395, and will stop at the venerable whoa nellie deli at lee vining after going through or around yellowstone, then cut across nevada. will post a ride report when i get home with all the gory details.
cheers, mate.

Check "this old tractor.com" and I believe you will find the manual you seek.

hello all -
after a chronic case of guzzi-lust and lot of shopping around i have just put a deposit on a 2004 ballabio in the bay area. later this month i'll fly up there and ride the beast home. needless to say, i'm pretty excited about it.
this site has given me a lot of fantastic information, but one thing i could use some help on is a shop manual. the existing link for shop manuals does not seem to be functioning properly and i'm wondering if somebody here has a shop manual in digital format that they could send me, or a functioning link where i can download the thing.
thanks and look for my ride report on bringing the ballabio home later this month.

found. deposit down. picking up and riding home shortly.
thanks.

it appears i have developed a serious case of guzzi-lust, and the only way for me to assuage it is to sell or trade my rock-steady RT.
it is a 1999 stealth gray (the fastest color) model.
mileage: 48,661
location: flagstaff, az.
it is, imo, truly hard to beat for one or two-up long distance riding and needs absolutely nothing. i have done 700 mile days on this bike and ridden in all temperatures -- in fact, the temperature control of this bike is one of the things that makes the RT outstanding: the engine doesn't blast your legs with heat, and the adjustable windscreen and ergonomics (and heated grips and powerlet for heated vests, etc.) allow you to ride quite comfortably under very cold conditions as well.
the bike is mechanically perfect, and has only a few cosmetic scratches from a driveway tip-over. the hard-case covers have scratches from the cases (but not the bike) being dropped when not properly mounted but the mounting and locking mechanisms (one of which was replaced) are in perfect working order.
- ABS
- heated grips
- throttlemeister
- hard-wired Garmin GPS V
- PIAA auxiliary lights
- running lights
- sargent worldrider seat (also have the stock seat)
- forward pegs/cylinder head covers
- bar risers
- bag liners
- aeroflow headlight cover
- aeroflow windshield (also have the stock shield)
- dual helmet lock
- avon storm tires with less than 50% usage
