  1. Wow that brings back memories.  Lived just across north side of San Jacinto river from the monument first 22 years of my life and now have same Lemans as yours but not near as primo condition.  As kids we had a mix of scooters and bikes from cushmans to cushman 3 wheel trucksters to hondas, bridgestones, suzukis and so on. We all rode together many times on the Lynchburg ferry from Highlands, TX across the river and to the monument and museum.  If the parents knew we would all have been in big trouble.

  2. Hey guys, appreciate all the understanding and suggestions to mediate the critter problems.  Have had 4 female cats as suggested and yes they were relentless varmint catchers.  Laid their trophies at the door between the garage and house everyday.  Unfortunately for them, the food chain here was their demise as coyotes readily eat cats and there are a lot of coyotes here.  Will grab some mouse traps next trip in to town.  Did find where the mice are coming in, one of roll up doors has about 2 inches of the rubber seal across the bottom chewed away.

  3. Life happened and haven't ridden the 04 V11 Lemans since last October.  Fired it up last night and it ran perfectly with big fan for cooling on it. Was walking back behind it and noticed a lot of debris on the garage floor.  Looked closely and it was sunflower seeds blown all over the floor. Swept up after running the bike and thought, what the heck, let's fire up the old 86 Lemans just for grins since I can't remember when I last ran it.  Took some coaxing but it finally came to life and sounded great.  Lo and behold scattered all behind it was a bunch of dog food.  Creative mice must have been storing the seeds and dog food in the mufflers!.  Will have to get a metal storage container to store the bird seed and dog food in.

  4. I suppose everybody's bike is different but I have a 86 LM1V with over 180K miles and been through many tires.  Swapped bikes with a bud with his 02 Lemans way back when on a Texas trip and he told me my suspension sucked.  I guess after all those miles I had just adjusted to to it.  He ordered progressive rear shocks and fork springs for me and it really improved the bike.   The best combination I have found for tires afterward is a michelin macadam on the rear and metzeler lasertec 33 on the front.  Worst were bridgestone bt45 as had tank slapper scary deals when riding fast over elevation changes.

  5. Good point Kiwi_Roy.  Only time I have ever disconnected them is once during tank off maintenance checklist and second time to fix overheated/not charging situation last weekend.  Will do your suggested fix when I get back home from Barber Vintage Motorcycle Festival next week.

  6. Sorry to take so long to reply.  I have the extra ground that goes directly to the battery attached to the regulator.  I had the tank off last winter to do the checklist per this site to change air and fuel filter.  Also disconnected every connector including the yellow wires and the other 4 pin connector from the regulator to deoxit, too.  Perhaps I loosened up the spade terminals on the yellow wires when I did that and caused the bad connection and overheating.  Chuck nailed the location as he and his son were leading this repair effort.  Both connectors associated with the regulator are Molex type, tywrapped to the left front downtube just above where the left exhaust header exits the head.  You can see them if you look there but very limited access with fairing installed.  I was able to check them last winter with the tank off and fairing installed, though.

  7. 2004 V11 Lemans 76K miles. Was headed to the Kentucky Guzzi rally last Thursday In Frankfort and voltmeter I added a couple years ago indicated the charging system was fading away.  Was hoping to get to a town before it died altogether as I was out in the middle of nowhere.  Voltmeter flashes when it drops to 11.8 volts and I was surprised how soon the bike quit after that.  Luckily the cell phone got a signal and was able to contact guys at rally so they came the 80 miles to get me with a trailer.  After removing fairing and troubleshooting in the campground, the connector that the 2 yellow wires are in had overheated and fused together. Took 2 pair of pliers to persuade it to separate.  Cleaned best we could and removed burned plastic, tightened the terminals, and applied caig deoxit electrical magic.  Made it the 300 miles home Sunday charging better than it has since I added the voltmeter.  Need to  cut out the connector and replace with individual disconnects for permanent fix.  Any recommendations as to what type of disconnect terminals I should use?

  9. I think I have a set of those that were installed on my 04 Lemans when I bought it several years ago.  After first 1500 mile weekend trip decided I did not like that riding position and reinstalled the original stuff that came with the bike.  I'll check the stash on the seldom looked at upper shelf in the garage tomorrow am and let you know.

  10. may be a only a few attend this but knowledge and friendship shared is top notch. gonna take me a couple days to recuperate. Friday tech session was mentioned about leaking valve covers which I stated had never happened to me so guess what. On water fall loop I had oil all over my left boot and bike.  Knowing this bunch of guys checked tightness on cover screws and all were tight.  Cut ride short and returned to lodge and waited till engine cooled. Sure enough, left valve cover gasket was split.  Always carried spares thinking someone else may need them, not me. Replaced and no leak coming home today.  Great event!

  12. I feel your pain. I have 04Lemans Docc has been helping me with to cure same behavior it's had for probably 40-50K miles of 72K total. Been thru every check/upgrade I've seen mentioned in threads related to this issue and no improvement o date.  Just got back from 500 mile weekend ride over twisty back roads around Tellico Plains, Tennessee.  Pops thru intakes on every roll off of throttle from anywhere between 3000-6000 rpm to drop gears entering into and exit out of tight curves.  At times, severe enough to create unexpected excitement in holding lane position.  Also, does it nearly continuously when running steady at low speed/1st/ 2nd gear from 2000 to 3200 rpm, like approaching driveway in neighborhood or town traffic or similar.

  13. I've been looking into installing one of these troubleshooting lights on a 2004 V11 Lemans and on mine the fuse number 8 is a spare 15 amp fuse.  No power to either side clip with fuse removed and both ignition, run switches on.  Just wanted to pass that info on.  Now need to decide which other fuse to wire the indicator light to.
