  1. I don't know if you bought anything yet, but do I own both of the bikes you're considering. A '99 black R1100S and a '04 Le Mans Nero Corsa. The V11 is by far a much more fun to ride-- as I'm sure everyone here will tell you. It has tons of character and is uncommon.

The BMW is a better choice for a sport-touring machine. That is what you said you were looking for. The reasons are that for real touring you can't discount the extensive BMW dealer network, luggage, heated grips, and ABS.

  2. These calipers are not supposed to be rebuilt-- there's no authentic Brembo kit. You can't get anything from Moto Guzzi either.

I posted to this forum when I had this same problem and received similar advice. I tried to rebuild mine anyway with an after-market kit from MG Cycle. The seals (large) were not a correct fit and failed. I've rebuilt calipers in the past and it's simple with actual Brembo labeled parts. If you do decide to disassemble the caliper and see that corrosion has penetrated the piston's anodized surface, you should probably replace the caliper. To clean the pistons, I wouldn't recommend anything as abrasive as Scotchbrite which can remove the anodizing, but you might gently scour the surface with something comparable to "Bar Keepers Friend".

In conclusion, if you want to save yourself a lot of messy trouble and have reliable brakes, buy a new caliper. They're about $277. from a dealer. On a related subject, how's your rotor? If you've been riding around with a seized caliper it may have warped the rotor-- you will feel a "pulsing" sensation under light braking.

  3. Anyone have a readily available substitute turn-signal flasher relay part number?

Can a generic flasher be used from an auto?

    Thanks,

    David

  4. I've never been crazy about the checkered flag graphics on my Nero Corsa. I'm thinking of painting it black and forgoing all the graphics except for two tank emblems.

The original paint looks fine-- I'd just prefer it plain black (its metallic black base color). But, I'm concerned that painting it will lower its value if I decide to sell it in the future.

Anyone have an opinion about this? What is the value of original paint?

    Thanks for your input!

  5. The drop of fuel collects after riding when the motor is shut off. It's not always me firing the bike up and then shutting it down right away (it does it then too). It seems like the fuel line pressure is draining through the injectors after the bike is switched off. Which made me wonder if I had a problem.

  6. I have noticed that a small drop of fuel collects under both throttle bodies (lower tip of butterfly shaft) after shutting off the motor. No leaks or problems otherwise while running. It appears to be just one droplet on each. That's it-- when I wipe it away, it's dry until the next time. Is this anything that needs to be addressed? My friend's V11 Sport seems to have the same situation. He didn't notice anything until I pointed it out. His bike runs fine too. Is this a common occurrence?

  7. There have been a couple of bikes on ebay recently for sale that were new bikes that were never sold.

What kind of problems could you expect on a V11 with 3 miles on it that has been sitting for 8-9 years?

Fork seals may need to be replaced. They will probably start leaking after the bike is ridden.

  8. Google motorcycle paint codes...

I already tried. It's not that easy. The paint was made by Lechler which is not available in the US. But, Glasurit is and code for that (or BASF) would be useful. So would a Dupont code etc. That's what I'm looking for and I have not been successful.

    Thanks.

  9. Does anyone know where to find the paint codes for the V11 LeMans? Specifically the metallic black used as the base coat for the Nero Corsa.

Lacking the original code, has anyone used a code that is an acceptable match for that metallic black? I know that the air box covers are a different metallic gray and that the checkered flag graphics are applied decals.

    Thanks!

  10. I was thinking that it would be prudent to drain my fuel tank for the winter instead of adding a stabilizer. The potential for any fuel damage to the plastic tank is cumulative. So why not drain it until the riding weather returns? The bike is in a heated garage-- there is no worry of condensation or freezing. Is there a good reason not to do this?

  11. I am a new owner of a 2000 V11 Sport and am looking for a rear shop stand. In searching a few forums I came across a version specifically for the V11 but I can not find this item currently available.

Anyone know of a stand for this bike?

    Thanks,

    Lawrence

If you don't want to spend all the money right now (for the MG), I use the Harbor Freight swing arm stand and think it is a decent value for the $37.00 price. The black vinyl-dipped protective covering will not last on the lifters. What will last is wrapping them in self-fusing silicon tape. Which is a product that is very useful for a variety of applications.

  12. Is there a battery charging indicator light on the '04 Le Mans? My bike has both left and right turn indicators, high beam, neutral, low fuel and low oil for a total of 6 indicators. My friend's '00 Sport has only one turn indicator and a charging light is included among the other 6 lights.

  13. the marzocchi forks on my '02 le Mans measure 53mm, BUT are stepped up to 54mm where they go through both triple clamps.

    stef

edit.... the 54mm extends to 1 3/4 " below the bottom of the top triple clamp.

Thank you for the input. On the '04 the clip-ons were attached above the top triple clamp where the tubes measure 54 mm. The Ohlins fork tubes are also stepped down in diameter below the triple clamp. I think if they were mounted below the clamp, it would be uncomfortable. Mounted on top should be perfect for me. Very close to the riding position on my R1100S.

I have MPH risers and couldn't recommend them enough.very well made and perfect sporty, but much less pressure on wrists position for me.I'll take a look to see if I have an extra set of stock clip-on in the boxes of stuff I have. They are not uncommon on ebay

If you have a stock pair, that would be great! I'm anxious to get the new bike into shape-- please let me know, I can send a Paypal payment to you or some other type.

    Thanks,

    David

  15. I put the vortex clip ons on my 2000 v11 think it is 53mm. My forks are the marzochi (sp).

The compression and rebound on seperate legs. Works and looks good.

The Ohlins tubes are 54mm in diameter. I'll look at the Vortex. It would be great to find someone's "take-offs".

  16. Decals, and then covered in a clearcoat. They are available through MG as a set, last I checked.

Thank you for your reply. I decided to drive 1600 miles over the weekend from PA to GA to get the '04 Nero Corsa. I knew there were a couple small blisters in the tank graphics. Could be due to the plastic fuel tank or the sun. It was a great opportunity despite those small blemishes. The bike was sitting for some time and the forks started leaking after my first 100 miles. I hope to get it back on the road for the weekend-- it was a blast while it lasted!

  17. I recently bought an '04 Le Mans with "convertabars" that are too high for me. I'd like to switch them for the stock clip-ons. Does anyone know where they may be available or of an appropriate substitute?

    Thanks!
