This just happened yesterday morning. There were 7 of us, 6 guzzis (4 of them are V11s) and a Triumph Triple on our way to attend the Thousand Oaks Guzzi Store open house. To get there, we took the canyons of the Santa Monica Mountain in Los Angeles. The roads were quiet, not too many bikers for being a Saturday. It was a mild ride, and smooth until we get to the top of Piuma Rd. There was a gap between the 1st two riders and ther remaining us, which an oncoming truck took it as an opportunity to make a left turn on a blind corner. Next thing happened, the 3rd rider on a silver/red lemans ended up clipping the rear tire of the truck, then the 4rth on the green v11 sport ended up riding over the fallen bike. Both riders were hurt, but the 1st one to go down didn't have as much luck as the other. He broke his ribs and arm, it could be worse, but he's an experienced rider and able to low side his bike rather doing a t-bone. He was taken by the ambulance and able to go home the same day. The other rider was able to get up and walk. Both bikes are trashed, costly and dear to us, but we see lives and friendship are far more valuable.

This is terrible news but thank god it wasn't worse. I sincerely hope everyone heals up fine and insurance covers all the costs for everyone involved.

Get well soon guys.

Man that sucks ! :bbblll:

Gives me shivers when I read about these things.

Here's wishing you fast recovery, high insurance settlements and for all parts to be in stock for both of you.

Sounds like it could have been a lot worse, with it being a garbage truck and all that steel.

Thoughts and Prayers go out to the two riders, family and friends. As said before, could have been worse. Seems like this stuff happens in bunches - the rest of you please be extra careful!!!

Big time bummer, guys.

Sorry to read about that.

heal up fast and well.

Don't mean to sound like the grim reaper, but I was just on ebay and noticed some parts that each of the guys may want to look at since they are the types of bits that usually get demolished in crashes like that:

for the red/silver lemans:

One of the gents was riding my pristine, wonderful Lemans, bent it up pretty good, will not be putting it back together. If any of you see bits you might want, PM me. It has 10K miles on it and made 85 bhp at the rear wheel. Good bits are the engine, trans, bevel box, Rich Maund seat, PCIII, FBF x-over, brake calipers, tank, side panels, rear wheel, also have a new torque arm that I did not install and a pair of Jean Marc's custom bars that are fully adjustable and not installed.

Again, as Joel noted, you can replace motorcycles, not friends, this could have been very bad.....

Be careful guys , s**t can happen anytime. Also notice the importance of who you ride with and that a group has to stay together and not develop to big distances and be devided as smaller groups.

Nick Isenatch writes some about it very well in his book.

Had in the past experiences like these with separation of groups and more or less that has caused situations like these sometimes.Personaly I generally don't go ride with big groups and chances are I won't know who I am riding with (if more than 3 bikes) = unsafe more or less.(but that's just my 2c )

Ride safe, stay safe and good recovery to the hurt.
