I listed both in a format similar to MyECU but with throttle degrees instead of the 0-14 index it uses.

Due to different throttle angles and different RPM breakpoints we have to be careful when comparing.

 

The max values are a lot different - note that the engine except for the ECU is, as far as I know, exactly the same.

The stock V11 map is not similar to the maps dlaing posted at the first side of the thread. Look at the 85.56 line where the stock V11 has much more advance. From where did you get the info?

It's hand-typed from his post. I just double-checked it and I find no difference. Note that the top map above are from the (pre-V11) Sport 1100 and the lower is stock V11, the latter should be the same as the top one of dlaings :wacko:

The map Dave shows is the one spread by Wayne as basic V11. And why not, the V11 was sold from 1999 (the parts may be even older) to 2005 or 2006. That's a lot of time, making possible lots of different genuine standard maps.

 

Now an interesting question: a standard V11 compared to a standard 1100 Sport i.e. Does someone know something about any values? How about EPA requirements or what we call it here Euro1 - Euro2 - Euro3?

This is just curious reference for MyECU owners: here is the Sporti base fuel map as pulled from the OEM but in My16M format. The figures are microseconds.

The indexes 00-14 are the same throttle angles as in the ignition table previously posted. I haven't yet mapped them to My16M TPS readings (10-bit representation of 0-5 volts).

 

The OEM probably adds something in the order of 800-1000 to each figure to account for injector dead time. This makes sense at row 0 but even after adding that the rest of the map seems much leaner than any map I've seen for the Sporti. At least at WOT. To compare the whole map we'll have to figure out 10-bit TPS readings vs. degrees of throttle opening.

My guess is that the difference in TPS sensors is more mechanical than electrical. Both are logaritmic. I thought Dave's maps was pulled from one OEM and one Ti ECU.

 

EDIT: it's not logaritmic. It's two-step linear with a break at 30° and apparently the mV-to-degrees formulas are the same from P7/P8 to 1.6M and 15M.

 

I don't even know what year European V11's got a cat. They didn't have it from the start, right?

The differing RPM breakpoints are very revealing in themselves:

The stock Sporti map being the earliest, is useful as a "1st approximation." It's also worthwhile to remember that Guzzi was rushing the Sporti to market after the protracted development of the Daytona Hi-Cam and 1100 "Spot" models - so the transition to EFI for the Sporti was likely very rushed and derivative of the work on EFI for the Hi-Cam engine, ergo, less emphasis on the narrow throttle openings and low rpm curve, w/ a proportionately greater emphasis on data points for larger throttle angles and higher rpms (and corresponding criticism in reviews of the Sporti at the time of the "lightswitch" low-speed throttle behavior, exacerbated by the lack of cush-drive mechanism in the 1100 Sports...)

 

Next up, the Ti ECU map: this is a part issued for use w/ the "closed course only" performance exhaust system. While no Guzzi V11 is a true "race bike," this is as close as Guzzi gets short of the MGS-01, so again, fewer data points for the "off-idle" ignition curve would be normal, as Guzzi would not expect much time being spent there by the rider w/ the Ti pipes. Hence, the complete elimination of the 1.0 degree throttle opening line, & insertion of the 3.66 degrees of throttle line (likely for smoother throttle response on acceleration out of corners, a VGT, IMHO.)

 

Thirdly, the stock v11 ignition map: emphasis on the off-idle response, for trickling around in traffic, etc. Also note how the advance retards in the final 8500 rpm column for a "soft" cutoff at redline [not much point playing around at those rpms if there's no additional power to be had, is there? ;) ]

 

What I don't understand at all is why the stock V11 & Ti maps have table entries for 700 & 900 rpm, if the idle speed needs to be significantly higher to ensure adequate oil pressure? Why not just cut off the bottom of the table at 1k rpm like on the map for the Sporti [or 900 rpm] and devote another column of entries for the mid-throttle, (again) a la' Sporti?

 

So it seems to my inexpert self that Guzzi got some of the initial params spot on, & when Aprilia took over someone in charge of the map development got hooked on the "myth of the mechanical mule" & worked up a good map for a tractor engine! All fine & dandy for the cruiser models (maybe), w/ the emphasis on low rpm idle among that crowd [NB: at least, "that crowd" in the Harley cruiser market...], but I'm thinking a general remap of the v11 ECU w/ a more optimal choice of data points would certainly be in order! 700 rpm? WTF?.. :wacko:

 

WRT max values being different: AFAIK, the Sporti has slightly different heads & pistons from the V11s, which may lead to enough difference in combustion characteristics for the values. Also, the airbox w/ all the "ram air" paraphenalia as well as differences in the fuel map (higher emissions being permissible in the early 90s vs. 5 years later) may have led to such variations in the values for maximum advance.

The older KR/KS V11s meet the Euro1 figures

The Catalysed V11 meets Euro 2

Only the engines Breva/Griso 1100 with Twinspark meet Euro 3

 

1100 Sport i I'm not sure if they meet Euro 1. My guess i no.

I'll gladly compare any and all info we got but I'm not sure what you mean. The post you snip-quoted is a comparison of ignition advance maps between V11 and Sporti, a.k.a timing maps, no?

I recon that's the ignition advance , nothing wrong with it. in the original chip , but is the fuel mapping and the temprature parameters that makes the big difference in tunning concerning this model.

That's good points. And just another reason to choose MyECU if you really want to tinker with everything. The distribution of rows and columns are completely configurable. :)

I always wanted to confirm this and now I did to a degree. Sporti compared to a V11 LeMans 2002:

  • The heads do have different part numbers. When I was looking for new Sporti heads I was told they are the same.
  • The cylinders and pistons are different part numbers too (but rings are the same)
  • Even the crank shaft is different
  • The valves and stuff are the same
  • And the camshaft is the same
  • The TB's are different part number for complete assembly, but I think they are essentially the same
  • The injectors are the same
  • Also, the exhaust system is different of course. And the airbox, like you said.

That was more differences than I thought, but then again some of it could be just minor changes that don't make any difference. I wonder what is the difference, if any, in the combustion chamber.

I recon that's the ignition advance , nothing wrong with it. in the original chip , but is the fuel mapping and the temprature parameters that makes the big difference in tunning concerning this model.

You may be right about the big difference but I think both are important if you want to push it. And I agree with Skeeve the OEM ECU seem to have been put together in a haste.

That's good points. And just another reason to choose MyECU if you really want to tinker with everything. The distribution of rows and columns are completely configurable. :)

I always wanted to confirm this and now I did to a degree. Sporti compared to a V11 LeMans 2002:

    [*]Even the crank shaft is different

     

    [*]The TB's are different part number for complete assembly, but I think they are essentially the same

     

    I wonder what is the difference, if any, in the combustion chamber.

 

wrt crankshaft: the later V11 mills (supposedly) have under-piston oil jets to aid in cooling; the diff. between cranks probably doesn't amount to more than a slightly larger gallery to enable greater oil flow...

 

wrt TB: I seem to recall that the Sporti has larger dia. TB's than the later v11s: again, that focus on all-out top-end and carry-over from the development of the Daytona reveals itself. This is revealed in other ways, too: V11s are only geared for a 130mph top speed, despite having a 6-speed tranny: the 1100 Sport/i is geared for 150mph (w/ a close-ratio 5-speed, which is why taking off requires so much clutch! ;) )

 

wrt combustion chamber: probably just a difference in the squish band. Mike Rich seems to favor the theory that the stock V11 pistons are not correct for the stock combustion chamber shape; his high compression pistons, which actually have a lower crown height than other hi-comp offerings, are designed to take properly take advantage of the stock chamber shape. You might want to contact him & ask for his opinion re: the 1100 Sporti.
