Installing my Garmin GPS...

I have a Street Pilot III that I use on my bikes. RAM mount also. I decided for the extra 15-minutes is took to just run a battery tender connector from the battery up front. It's zip-tied in all the right places it's finally attached to my right upper fork tube, a little out-of-site. It's handy there for using the battery tender, hooking up the GPS, hooking up the mattress inflator, etc.. I do need to remember to turn off the GPS so it doesn't drain the battery, but it's still pretty convenient.

Until now I didn't attach the power, (I will take it from the headlight before the swithch, like Greg mentioned). I did install the RAM mount. Here some pictures:

Beautifully done!

I'm attempting to get a RAM mount installed on my '02 for a SteetPilot 2610.

The previous owner Val (hey Val, still liking your old bike!) installed these:

I don't want to remove them.

Dr.Gill has his 2610 attached to the clip ons (thanks Dr.)

I believe mine should be able to attach the same way. Attaching a RAM mount to the mirror bolt is a great solution, also. However, with the risers, there isn't enough clearance for turning!

I'm hoping to find a clamp to use on the mirror attachment rail, further forward, under the windscreen.

I'm probabaly overlooking something obvious, making this procedure much harder than it should be. Just exploring options. Attaching to clip ons may be the way I go.

I have the moto mount from Garmin and a RAM kit. On my previous bike I just routed the wire to the Battery, but I'm hoping there is a more sophisticated way... Where did you put the RAM mount? On the handlebars or on the inside of the fairing?

I have the Quest II and I bought the Ram mount kit. Unfortunately, when I tried to mount it the U bolt was too narrow to fit on the Coppa's bars. Has anyone else experienced this? How did you resolve it? Is there a bigger U-bolt/mounting kit?

I've tried a few clamps. The Express Mounts folks have a lot of stuff.

Maybe this one is wide enough?

FedEx just now delivered something similar I'm hoping will work on the mirror rail or the clip ons.

I also have one of these, a clunker of a thing but of no use on my bike. I can drop it in the mail if you want to try it:

  • 4 weeks later...

Finally got it mounted a couple weeks ago. Adjusted switchgear a bit. I was concerned about the thing shaking around too much. No worries - feels solid, steady.

Now I have a better idea where I am and how fast I'm really going.

Great stuff.
