Nathan, Looking at your second picture:

 

Well, that didn't work...

I'm not certain you have the correct axle.  On my 2001 sport, the axle bolt (Right side) is flush with the outside of the fork.  That stepped increase in diameter of the axel is supposed to be there- it acts as the spacer on the RH side.  There's a (~15mm) spacer on the axle left side.  Also, there's no hole through my axle like there is on yours.  That looks like an old Tonti frame axle.  I could be wrong, I suppose. :huh2:  I do know there shouldn't be any spacers on the brake calipers.  Do you have your forks installed on the wrong sides maybe?

Thats exactly what I thought when I looked at it.The spindle should come in from the right hand side as viewed from the riders perspective.

edit-I looked at the pic again,hard to see,but does the spindle need pushed through more?(this box of tricks still not working right)

Nathan, I'm still baffled. Coupla things:

 

Again, I have the same model. The spindle (axle) in the shots appears to be the same as mine, as do all the components as far as I can tell.

 

My spindle sits in the right-hand side fork closer-in, that is, it doesn't protrude as far, by about 5 mm. :huh2:

 

Lacking a di-optera focus on y'er camera (I guess) - my eyes hurt lookin' at the photo's, and this is a drawback for me here. :bbblll:

 

I don't know what that extra spacer is doing in y'er first shot?? Again - you only need ONE spacer besides the long one that goes between the bearings and sticks out on the left of the hub. That's the 15 mm one, and it goes over the long spacer on the left-hand side.

 

It's impossible to get the forks on the wrong sides with the 40 mm Marz USD unless you have the calipers IN FRONT of the fork lowers.

 

The way it looks (through squinty eyes!) the distance between the calipers and the caliper mounts is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE UNDER ANY CONDITIONS!!! I repeat - Please DO NOT ride the bike with spacers taking up this gap! :(

 

I'm still at a loss to explain what's goin' on here, sorry? :huh2:

 

I'd have a reputable Marz fork specialist look at it. :luigi:

The axel installed is what came with the forks from Carl A., the same axel that was installed orginally. The forks are installed with the camber'C' on riders left.

the picture of the riders left side, 15mm spacer and leg. Its not very clear from the picture but it looks like the wheel bearing is incorrectly fitted, If I remember correctly the bearing should be flush with the face and the 15mm spacer butts up to it

Nathan, I agree with DVH.

 

In y'er photo #4 in post #13, you've got what looks like my 15 mm spacer on the RIGHT SIDE!!!! :homer:

 

It has a raised "lip" at both ends.

 

I'd start with this idea - take it out and re-assemble with it on the LEFT side. Don't use any other spacers on the spindle - except for the one that goes between the wheel bearings of course! :luigi:

sorry for the crappy pics. again wmart camera.

 

 

DVH... your on to somtheing. the riders left bearing is recessed quite a bit. almost to the point where if I push the spacer(15mm) into it the recesse in the rim it is flush with the rim. look at pic #2.

Looking at the shop and parts manual I see a bearing spacer inside? the rim?

Could you look and see (sorry for the sh&%ty pics) and see if the other (30mm)spacer in pic one is this spacer for this application?

rachet the pic you referenced is the riders right side, blurry image. the axel has the incline to larger diameter. The 15mm spacer is on the left side. I'll start dissambly on the rim pronto. is the larger spacer in pic 1 the inner bearing spacer?

Correct, and agreed.

 

Belated EDIT: CORRECTION - NO! - I don't know what that long spacer is - it doesn't fit anything I know of and it isn't shown in the exploded view!!

 

DO NOT INSTALL A SPACER ON THE RIGHT. Again - the only spacer BESIDES the one between the bearings goes on the LEFT. That's the 15 mm spacer with an identical "lip" on each end. It's NOT the one being measured in photo #1 in post #12. That one does not belong on the spindle.

 

Both bearings should look perfectly "flush" with the exterior of the hub.

looks things are going wrong here. I bet on a missing or to short spacer in the wheel.

So the spacer is going trough one bearing, resting to the other. The bearings are flush mounted at the disk front, yours are much more inside.

 

I think you could have saved yourself buying the triple if you measured the parts you have and posted clear pictures.

Nathan, from your photo #2 in post #12, the left-side bearing has been pressed way too far into the hub by not having the spacers in sequence. It will need to be pressed back into place. Once you get the spacers in order, it should press back into place in the "stack" on the spindle.

Wow, not as sharp as some others here- I didn't notice the recessed bearings! Nathan, do you have a bearing spacer? Looks like Paul, Ratchet, BigJ and DVH have enough pictures to set you on the right track. Like James Brown, get on the good foot.

Your on the right track now. I don't believe that the correct spacer is inside the front wheel(the pic that Jean added). There are 2 different bearings for this set up. The riders right hand bearing should have a larger ID than the left side bearing. The spacer portion of the axle should push against this in order to get the wheel centered correctly
